When Hannah finds out her husband has cheated, she’s in a quandary. For some this is a totally black and white situation. But not so for Hannah. She loves her husband and family so leaving really doesn’t seem the right thing for her. Joel will agree to anything just to ensure Hannah stays. But is Hannah setting out on her own affair really the way to go.
Elizabeth Laban definitely explores infidelity in a new way and you can’t help but feel for Hannah.
A great read

The fact that the main character still staied with her husband after her cheated.. i don`t know, i did not like that. Because she decide to do what she wants, and that is ok ..but the decidion she made - made me uncomfortable.

This was my first book from Elizabeth LaBan and it was an enjoyable read, I felt that Hannah was a good character and Elizabeth really explored the emotions well..

How can Hannah think that cheating to even the score is a good idea?

That's what happens when you read Beside Herself. The author has made it so that we feel as if we know these characters and I found myself yelling at them as if, LOL.

This is truly a great read and one I highly recommend.

At the start of this novel, main character Hannah finds out that her husband has cheated on her - but it’s over and he’s remorseful and wants to stay married. The rest of the book is essentially Hannah’s emotional journey as she tries to figure out who she is and what she wants, while also juggling kids, an aging father-in-law, friends, the possibility of putting herself back out there, and more.

The book addresses some serious issues but with a light touch on the writing - not unlike Jennifer Weiner, especially with the Philadelphia setting, or Katherine Center would be another good comparison. Real-feeling, relatable characters and interesting dilemmas - I bet this would also make a good book club book if your book club is open to getting personal discussing marriage and infidelity.

Good book. Could be slightly shorter rather than padded out. Enjoyable read. Well done and well written.

Very different point of view and direction from what is a typical storyline which I enjoyed. Found it quite poignant and realistic. Great novel!

This book was just an okay read. Although there were a few twists in it the story overall was quite predictable and did not keep me interested.

Thank you to Lake Union and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of this book for my honest opinion.

This book is all about marriage. Marriage is hard. It's about forgiveness. This is also difficult when trust has been broken. This is about Hannah's journey back to Joel after the ultimate betrayal.

While the above description does seem a little dramatic and dark, this actually is a light easy read. Even a bit silly. I feel like relationships were not fully realized. We don't learn very much about her best friend. What about Hannah's job? She never actually goes to work it seems.

Overall a fun read just not too deep.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

I liked this book and the way it tackled serious marital issues with a little bit of humour and enjoyment. I stand by that two wrongs don't make a right and I think that the characters were a little immature at times, although I understood Hannah's motivations and determination, it still didn't sit right with me.

I really enjoyed this book and tore through it in a day. This story hooked me from page one. Hannah is happily married to Joel and they have an idyllic and strong marriage or so Hannah and all their friends thought. As Hannah discovers Joel has had an affair she is conflicted whether or not to remain in the marriage. Joel is apologetic and claims it was never his dissatisfaction with Hannah or their marriage that led him to make the biggest mistake of his life. Hannah’s best friend encourages her to stay with Joel which surprises Hannah and causes her to second guess whether she really wants to end her marriage. Hannah is also unsure whether or not she wants to upend her children’s lives but she is furious with Joel for putting everything in jeopardy. Another important and interesting character in the book is Joels’s father who is in an extended care facility. It was so nice to see Hannah’s relationship with him. So, ultimately everything comes down to what Hannah chooses to do with her marriage. I found the character development strong and the secondary characters such an important part of the story. As I said, I was engaged with this book from beginning to end.

Joel and Hannah have two children together. Hannah is soon to turn forty six. Hannah finds out her husband is having an affair. I understand Hannah is upset about the affair and cheating is horrible but it was maybe a little petty to let Joel oversleep his work meeting. Hannah wants to have an affair of her own . I liked that Hannah was having an hard time having an affair. It was a little slow moving waiting to see if Hannah would have an affair.
