I absolutely LOVED this book. Based around three women Beth, Lydia and Victoria all of whom have their own pasts and all of them trying to move on with their life. I didn’t favour one character over another and at first they are all very separate as you learn about each of their lives.

Before long their stories intertwine and slowly things begin to emerge. As the book progresses I found myself more and more drawn into the story and I ended up reading the last three quarters of the book in one sitting. There was a particular part of the story I totally didn’t see coming which threw me. This also had a quite dark side to it and made it seem quite sinister but I truth it just made the book even more engaging. A truly fantastic read and one of highly recommend

Big Little Lies meets Gone Girl in Alex Kane’s dark, twisted and chilling tale of toxic friendships, dangerous secrets and tortuous relationships, What She Said. Addictive, captivating and shocking, fans of domestic noir are not going to want to miss Alex Kane’s fantastic thriller.

You can never escape from your past, a fact which Beth is all too aware of. Forever haunted by a tragedy that had changed her life forever, Beth needs a fresh start and a new beginning, so she has left her old life behind and moved to Glasgow where she hopes to begin again and hopefully lay old ghosts to rest. Beth has shut the door on the past and hopes that in Glasgow she can build a new beginning for herself where she can make new friends and maybe, find a new love. However, regardless of how far Beth goes to escape the demons that still haunt her, the past always catches up with her and continues to persecute her, no matter where she goes or what she does.

When Greg and Victoria got married, he had promised to love and cherish her for the rest of their days. Unfortunately, the promises they had made to one another at the altar proved to be empty words that had quickly led to resentment, regret and anger. Victoria has recently grown suspicious of her husband. He has become more and more secretive and has been staying out late for business meetings and becoming more and more distant. What is Greg hiding from Victoria? Is there somebody else or is there something even more sinister going on that could ruin their lives forever?

The only woman who can help Victoria get to the bottom of this mystery is her old friend, Lydia. Victoria and Lydia might not have had much contact over the last four years, but she is the only one who can aid her to find out what Greg is up to and to get revenge on the man she now despises with all of her heart. Lydia will stop at nothing to get justice for her friend and make Greg pay for all he has done to Victoria. However, when Lydia befriends Beth, little does she realize that nobody is safe any more and that danger is edging closer and close to them and the three women might end up paying the ultimate price as they get more and more tangled in this twisted web of menace and jeopardy.

A cracking good read that will leave readers breathless, What She Did is a scary, sinister and seductive thriller where the shocks are plentiful, the action is relentless and the edge of the seat suspense is absolutely jaw-dropping. Brilliantly written and deviously plotted, What She Did is a first rate chiller about deception, the ties that bind and shackle and the lies friends tell one another that I simply could not stop reading.

An outstanding read from a brilliant new writer, Alex Kane’s What She Did is Griplit at its most addictive!

OH WOW!
I was into it from the start!
All along wondering 'who did what?'

Great psychological thriller, well written, many twists, well developed characters and story. Good from start to finish!

I felt so many emotions, I was sad, anxious, angry... and wanted to hurt those awful men abusing their women, trying (succeeding) to control them, make them miserable and make them feel sorry and apologize ?!

When you think you have found the right partner and he's either abusive or cheating, or both...

The story felt close to reality.

At first I was a little confused about the different POVs, past/present but quickly got into it and couldn't stop turning the pages! I just had to find out what happened in the past, what's happening now...

Warning : deals with domestic abuse...

Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.

What She Did – Alex Kane

This is the second book I’ve read by Alex Kane and I have to say that I didn’t enjoy this as much as his first novel No Looking Back. Although I will say I had to go back and double-check one or two things as I managed to get confused.

Told to us from each of the girls and both the past and present. Each of the girls has a back-story and become entwined together into one big mess. I wasn’t that keen on the girls, I just found that they were all naïve, needy and had major issues.

There are twists and turns aplenty in this novel to keep the pages turning; I just wish I had enjoyed it more.

Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Hera Books

Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.

What She Did is Alex Kane's second novel and whilst it is targeted at the thriller market I feel it's very close to crossing into the women's fiction/chick lit genre, so if you enjoy both this should fit you to a T. It centres around three strong women, Beth, Lydia and Victoria, who each have troubled pasts they are desperate to escape from. Beth is trying to escape the tragedy surrounding her ex-boyfriend's death, Victoria is in an increasingly loveless marriage with husband Greg. When she stumbles upon some dodgy texts on his phone her worst suspicions are just about confirmed. This leads to her contacting Lydia and the two plotting revenge, but there is much more going on than you initially realise.

This is a solid, captivating read with relatable characters living very ordinary lives and dealing with believable problems. What takes the book to the next level for me is how emotionally involving it is; Ms Kane's portrayal of each of the characters' situations felt authentic with some truly heart-wrenching moments. Packed with twists, tension and emotion this is an absorbing, lifelike tale and the fact that it is told in dual timelines (past and present) and switches between Beth, Lydia and Victoria's perspectives makes it well-rounded and engaging. An easy, fast-paced novel which rapidly gets quite sinister and intense. Many thanks to Hera for an ARC.

Although What She Did is a little confusing at times, it is a fast paced read with plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading.

If you like a good thriller, then What She Did by Alex Kane is definitely one to read. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more books by this author.

What a read! Since the first page I was glued to this story and their twists and exceptional characters, What She Did is a delightful read that will surprise you, don’t doubt it!
This is a story of friendship and revenge; because friends should always keep our backs, am I right?
This is the story of Beth, Victoria and Lydia; they all have a dark past that is keeping her present in shadows; their turbulent past involves abuse and lies, they didn’t have luck with men to say the least… But now the present is dark too and they will have to take a step further and decide their fate. Ready for an amazing trip?
The story is told between the past and the present of each character, I have to admit that sometimes I had to check which character I as reading to follow the story. But the story is so complex and original that I can understand that every character needs their own part on the story and a correct explanation. The story felt real and believable, I suppose that’s why I was so invested on the story, you could almost feel that they are part of our life.
This book will surprise you with the twists and turns but I just can say that it’s worth the read!

What a prologue!!!!!! I love a good prologue to kick off a psychological thriller and Ms Kane has written one that ticks that box big style!! And rereading it after finishing the book….oh my…..

What She Did is a tale of toxic relationships. This theme bubbles away all the way through, showing how friendships and relationships can start off so well but rapidly turn sour with the alpha in the pair taking control. I found it unnerving and thought-provoking; I had a think about my relationships (thankfully all mine are healthy, well I think they are).

I read late into the night, following this dark twisted Scottish soap opera on my kindle like an addict. This is a lot darker than Kane’s previous book, No Looking Back. I was wrapped up in the lives of these three women trying to find some sort of happiness in life. The writing kept my eyes glued to my kindle wondering how far Lydia would go for Victoria.

And OMG what a startling ending!!!! That I did not see coming at all!! Bravo Ms Kane 👏👏👏👏

New to me author , new book that i won’t forget very soon for sure as I really didn’t see the end coming.
Going back and forward ,between the three women, we are taken in their present life and difficult past with each chapter. I must admit that I was a bit confused because I rarely read books with 3 different POV and the chapters told in their past or present.
You know you’ve read a great book when the author manages to leave you speechless with the twists and turns that you just couldn’t see, no matter what you’ve done, no matter how many scenarios you’ve made in your head and thought you’ve got it sorted out. This book is one of those for sure.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, great writing as well as good characters, different personalities and interesting minds to say at least, a bond and secrets hidden and revealed when less expected and the twists at the end is just priceless.

Thanks for the opportunity to read and review to the publishers and NetGalley .

There are some thriller books which follow the norm beginning, mid, and an explosive end. Then there are those like this book which had me scrambling all over the pages, trying to get to the truth. How did I miss the clues? How did the author Alex Kane pull the wool over my eyes? The book was so deliciously cunning!!

Alex Kane had crafted her plot so wickedly that I had to go back and re-read a few scenes. The chapters were melded so well that it had me searching minutely for the seam to see the disjointed jagged ends. But no such luck. I could have never guessed the massive reveal of the last few chapters. Quite an innovative plot in recent times.

2 women, Beth and Victoria were in abusive relationships, and soon a friend common to both, Lydia, decided to help them. But they were linked by a secret so horrifying that I had a hard time believing that I was duped so well by the story.

I did have a tiny niggle popping up, the story was a bit slow for me as the chapters kept moving from past to present of the same 3 characters. Somehow, that confused my brain.

Overall, this was certainly a different psychological thriller, quite unexpected. You have to read it to believe it. But be warned— you have to believe what you are reading where what you read is not what you should believe and what you should believe is what you read between the lines. Go figure this out!! FANTASTIC!!

A really good read that had me hooked from the first few chapters.
The book alternates chapters between three characters - Beth, Lydia and Victoria.
We find out about their lives in the past and also the present and how their lives are all linked.
It was a little confusing remembering who was who when it chopped and changed so much, but as the book went on, it all came together.
We hear about the men who have been in their lives and learn the girls have all had a difficult past.
I can’t say too much more without spoiling it but brace yourself for the final few chapters!
Thanks to Hera Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

One of the best books I've read year. Lots of twists and turns and the ending is one you will never be able to figure out. There are three main characters and each gives's last and present situations. The back and forth between them and also from last to present gets a little confusing at times but is well worth the effort.I highly recommend this book it is definitely 5 stars for me.

This book was such a thrill ride from the beginning - I was definitely anxious to find out what was coming next, and I did not see that ending coming!

The story is divided into three points of view, which take us through both past events and the present day. While that may sound like a lot, the author does a great job of tying everything together and slowly building up the tension to an amazing climax that really will take your breath away. There were points I even peeked ahead to see what was going to happen next in a particular storyline because I felt like I just couldn’t wait to see how it would play out.

The author also did a really good jump of really just showing all the emotions the main characters were going through; you could almost feel the anxiety of the main female characters, who are each dealing with some major issues in their lives. The emotions and situations felt very real and the way the story plays out is brilliant.

I don’t know what else to say without revealing too much, so suffice it to say that if you love suspense and female-driven stories, you will absolutely love this book! I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book. It was not what I was expecting at all, and kept me guessing throughout. I would highly recommend this book as the author handles a delicate subject honestly and diplomatically. I would definitely read another of her books.

From the opening of the book it drew me straight in. It promised something very dark and boy did the author deliver.

The story alternates between three women flicking between past and present. The author skilfully plays with her readers minds, feeding us bits of information and glimpses of what is to come but not just quite what and I sure was not ready for how it all comes together at the end.

Beth and Victoria are women that due to their past have issues in their present life. They are both trying to move on with their lives and overcome their past fears but as we all know, life sure does throw a curve ball and wow what a curve ball.

As the story moves a long, it just gets darker and almost eerie. I had a feeling of trepidation that I just couldn’t shift and didn’t no why. When all become clear, well you could have knocked me over with a feather. I even had to go back and read a part again as my brain couldn’t quite comprehend what I had just read as I just hadn’t seen what was before my eyes, coming.

What She Did is a dark, at times disturbing but riveting read that I couldn’t devour quick enough. It’s definitely one of those, just one more chapter kind of reads that you won’t be able to put down. The story line left me feeling like someone had walked over my grave as it certainly will give you chills. What a great novel by the author, really enjoyed it and has to be my personal favourite of her books.

Although I agree that characters past and present - switching around - was a bit confusing, this was a great read. A little bit of everything for the suspense/thriller reader.

Three women, Beth, Victoria and Lydia are featured. They intermingle on some levels. Their husbands are either extremely controlling or cheating. Lydia, however, is controlling anyone she can.

The inside look at love, marriage, psychological abuse and heartache of both the past and present.

A good domestic suspense story!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Can you hear the scary music playing in the background or what? What She Did had me hooked right from page one with a whole host of unanswered questions meaning that I was compelled to keep reading to find out the answers!
The novel switches between the past and present lives of three women, Beth, Victoria and Lydia, the time changes might seem a little bit confusing to start with, but I promise you, stick with it, you will get into the rhythm and find that it all fits in perfectly to this storyline. And what it also does is to create a very real sense of suspense. Lots of little snippets of information are scattered about and they form together to provide a deeply dark and intense picture that worms its way underneath your skin!
And on the subject of intense, these three women were intense and then some! Each of them crawled into my head and refused to leave me. They enthralled me and creeped me out at the same time. I didn't know who to trust. I switched from feeling sorry for each of them to despising them all. At times I wanted to reach into the pages and pull them out of the nightmare they were living in and at others, I wanted to slam the pages shut and leave them trapped in there and out of my head.
Watching the lives of the three women collide in an exploration of control, abuse, lies and toxic relationships was like watching a car crash play out in front of my eyes and I was unable to stop looking no matter how disturbing it became. A perfectly executed plot and well-drawn characters made for a dark and twisted read! This was definitely a "keep you up well past your bedtime" kinda read! Don't miss it! It's brilliant!
My review will be on my blog as part of the blog tour.

Best friend and worst enemy.
I started this book as soon as I finished 'No Looking Back' As I finished that book I knew right away I needed to read more by this author.
A great writing style and a story that you are drawn into. A story that keeps you wanting to read on. There were parts of the book I wasn't keen on and parts of the book that I loved and needed to keep going with it.
Another good read overall and I look forward to reading more.

it's told from alternating points of view, going back and forth from past to present, and I have to be honest at times I got a little confuzzled and had to go back a bit.
There are some great twists and in parts it really does hook you and keep you turning those pages.

Thanks for the chance to read and review this book.
