This was useful and helpful. I havent drew in a long time so this book was very helpful. it also helped me get my horse more realistic as when ever I drew horses they did not look that real the first time.

This is a fabulous book BUT its not for beginners, whatever the blurb says. Each illustration has just 3-4 “steps” although the shading and rendering of individual parts of the horse is covered in more detail separately.
I know when I first started painting I needed the more detailed step by step books, those with about ten steps. I found with less my paintings would go from looking like the illustrations more or less in the early stage, to nothing like. I'd be thinking “but how did they do that bit?” and found it frustrating.
I could follow this book easily now but as a beginner I know I'd have struggled and been discouraged.

I think focusing on specific parts of the horse, and the tips on shaping and shading really useful. I liked that the book covers different breeds, as a horse lover and former owner I know just how different a Shetland is to a Shire or an Arab, and if you want your horses to look real, not a generic blend of horse shape this is essential.

Overall its a brilliant book IMO for those with some drawing skills and a little confidence but it is NOT one for beginners. If you do buy it and don't have that experience I think you need to practice drawing the parts of the horse, hooves, muzzles etc before tackling the whole horse.

Stars: Four, its a fabulous book, full of tips to help draw realistic equines, but I've dropped a star because I just don't feel this is suitable for beginners despite the description.

For those who have an interest in horses or specifically want to add them into a drawing or other image. But it is not a total step by step, but does go through like phases of the drawing from start to finish. Also does certain areas of the horse and few examples with riders. A nice look on a specific animal.

"Drawing: Horses" is a short art book providing tips on how to draw horses with graphite pencils. It's for beginners, but the author assumed that you know the basics of drawing. The book briefly talked about tools and techniques and horse anatomy. It then provided examples of different facial features (eyes, ears, nose) and hooves from different view points along with some tips about drawing them. There were drawings of horses in various poses with brief tips about how to draw a foal, two poses for an adult horse, four different breeds (Quarter Horse, Clydesdale, Arabian, Shetland pony) from different points of view, three poses of horses and riders in different gear, two poses of a horse galloping, two poses of a horse (and rider) jumping a fence, a polo pony and Western horse with their riders.

This book focused more on tips on unique points to pay attention to for the different ages, breeds, and poses rather than detailed step-by-step demonstrations. However, it did provide the basic steps to drawing a head and a few steps (outline, add details, add shading, finished horse) for most of the horse drawings with brief comments about things like the direction of your strokes. I'd recommend this book to artists who want some help specifically with drawing horses.

This book is a useful guide for people with some existing drawing skills, it is possibly a bit tricky for an absolute beginner. There are quite a few good examples of horse poses included, but not all show a more detailed progression from simple shapes to fully completed & shaded picture, so I would have preferred to see more of those. This is a good starting point for people wanting to draw horses.

Great book for budding artists. There was lots of good information and plenty to learn from. Very informative

Drawing: Horses: Learn to draw step by step is part of a series of tutorial art booklets aimed at beginning to intermediate artists for equestrian subjects. Released 7th May 2019 by Quarto on their Walter Foster imprint, it's 40 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats.

The titles in this series are all formatted in a similar manner and this one is no exception.

A short general introduction (10%) covers tools and materials including pencils, paper, blending tools, etc. The intro is followed by a group of non-specific tutorials on graphite techniques, shading, light, shapes and perspective. The following tutorial chapters are specific for different parts of horse anatomy: eyes, muzzles, ears, etc, leading to some full body breed specific studies.

It's worth noting that the ebook version of the eARC includes a very handy interactive table of contents. I really liked that. Each of the tutorials include 4-6 steps start to finish.

I like these tutorial booklets, they're inexpensive and full of useful info for artists looking for improvement in their own work.

Five stars - for what it covers and for a very short tutorial guide, it does the job admirably well.

Learn to draw step by step by Walter Foster is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. This may not be a beginner's book but maybe an advanced beginner 😁. There are great guides for understanding the shapes to use for various parts of a horse's body. Great shady tutorials. Great step-by-step instructions with lots of illustrations! Great art instruction book!

Extremely useful little book for those interested in drawing horses, with examples of some races. The subject is very challenging, you should know at least basic anatomy and rules of foreshortening, understand the movement of the horse: in this volume you get it in a basic but compehensible manner. Facial features are treated too. Highly recommended.

A good book for learning to draw horses and looking at them in detail. There are probably not enough steps or instructions for a beginner but great for someone with some experience. A good variety of pictures and projects with detailed studies of key areas such as eyes. I like the pencil illustrations and the 'dip in' feel to the book. Thank you

Every book in this collection begins with a decent breakdown of materials needed, as well as some of the more basic steps regarding techniques (shading, etc.). It’s basically an identical first chapter, which is actually a good thing. It means that the true variation is the subject matter and that any of the books would make a good gift without one worrying “Oh but this one has more initial information.”

After that, this book goes into detail of both horses and ponies. I really appreciate that the book takes the time to break down the anatomy and how it can effect the subject of your drawing, as well as the the detailed work making sure one knows how to get some of the harder to master areas (in a horse, this is typically eyes and hooves). Great book if you know an artist who also loves horses.

Drawing: Horses is a great art book for artists or art classes. It is easy to use and has great instructions to use.

Nice drawing technique, and easy to understand and use. Maybe a bit too advanced for beginners; but good for those with more than basic drawing ability or talent. Have started drawing horses using the techniques, now need to get some better drawing tools and paper.
