An approachable, folksy volume on living your best life, especially in the world of business. Friedman defines the Lemonade Life as living with purpose and possibility. Plenty of tangible takeaways, such as his five lenses (PRISM) through which you should view the world, and examples of successful people doing just that. Will appeal to self-improvement readers and those interested in general business books.
This is a really inspirational read and I am so glad I found it. I love the concept of turning lemons into lemonade as it as old saying I hear often in childhood. However, this book gives awesome tips on how to actually mentally do that and find steps that retrain your thoughts to be more positive. Wonderful find and I plan to get this for a few friends. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Friedman is a regular columnist for FORBES magazine. Most of the know the quote, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Mr. Friedman believes that we can do this by making five changes or switches: perspective, risk, independence, self-awareness, and motion. He writes in detail how these can be implemented and some studies that have been done in relation to these changes. To quote Friedman, "When you combine your unique gifts and share them with others, you create something larger than yourself." p.150 (ARC ed.)
Recommended for public libraries.
This book was very inspirational and I needed it right now. We can not control situations or people but we must be able to control how we respond. the author gives steps which we can incorporate into our lives. I find myself re-reading parts of this book and trying to use the information in my life.
This upbeat book is highly readable and inspiring. If you feel stuck or unable to accomplish your goals, this book will help you to identify what you really want to accomplish in life. I appreciated that the author did not necessarily put wealth as a top priority. He instead emphasizes happiness and peace of mind (though that can often lead to wealth). However, if you do want to pursue life as an entrepreneur, this is an excellent guide to pursuing that goal.
I love a good self development/improvement book! This book focuses on the five switches that will change your life. P (perspective) R (risk) I (independence) S (self-awareness) M (motion). When you make the choice to shift to the 5 switches you can lead a lemonade life. The book is filled with anecdotes, positive messages and quotes which were great reminders that we already have the tools to work towards our personal goals.
The Lemonade Life was the perfect dose of inspiration while also being very relatable. Friedman shares advice and examples of how to live life on your own terms by being more aware of the control we have over our thoughts and emotions. This is what he calls The Lemonade Life.
Taking control helps give you the ability to have more positive changes in your own life. You will feel like you are in the driver's seat instead of everyone and everything around you. While we can't always control what happens to us, we can control how we respond and move forward.
Friedman introduces the five internal "switches" we can all introduce into our own lives that can help get us to this place. These switches have to do with your perspective, risk, independence, self-awareness, and motion to work and create the life you want. When these switches all work together, you will see your life through a new lens which helps you live The Lemonade Life.
After introducing the 5 switches, he talks about how Lemon Lifers would look at different circumstances and then how a Lemonade Lifer would see and utilize the same situation. Mindset and who you surround yourself everyday are such huge factors in not only who you are a person but who you become. I thought Friedman did an excellent job at presenting how risk and mistakes can help us grow and this was such an inspiring part of the book for me.
I got so much out of this book and I know it is one I will refer back to again and again. While not every section was totally applicable to my own life, there was something I was able to get out of each of them. I loved the idea that The Lemonade Life isn't a destination but a way of life. When we know ourselves, use the tools we have and work towards our own personal goals, we have the ability to live full and happy lives right where we are and as we grow. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Leadership for an advanced copy of this book.
Great book full of positive messages, anecdotes and interesting stories. The five internal switches presented are excellent guides to help us train our thoughts and behaviors toward more positive endeavors. I chose to read a bit every morning, enjoying a daily does of inspiration. It's easy and enjoyable reading and written well.
This is a wonderful book that can be applied to everyday life and not just your professional one. I liked reading tbe stories of others and learning to live "a lemonade life" instead of a "lemon life". This is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to change their life.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
