Enjoyable and dark thriller, but many characters are too one note to be truly memorable. Propulsive and bingeable plot.

I enjoyed this creepy and atmospheric thrilller, it was quite the page turner! Talk about a messed up family. I look forward to reading the second book in the series, The Family Remains.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an early copy!

I say it time and time again--Lisa Jewell can do no wrong in my book. I always love her books and I always am captivated right from the first page. The Family Upstairs revolves around a family that seems perfect from the outside, but actually have some issues on the inside. The mother is unhappy with the way her life is going, the father has gotten lazy, and the son--Henry--well, something seems off about Henry right from the get-go. Then one day, a woman named Birdie and her boyfriend show up at the house and are invited to stay by the mother. Birdie then invites a man named David and his family to come and stay. David is handsome, charismatic--and also slowly begins taking over the house and the family's possessions and freedom. Enter Libby in the present day. Libby has just found out that she is going to inherit a huge house from her biological parents. She sets out to find out about them, then finds out that they both died--along with David--by suicide as part of a cult. But is that the real story? I love a book that delves into cult-like behavior, and this did just that. And what an explosive ending!

It took a little while for me to get invested in this book. Once I was about halfway through, I was so intrigued with this book! And the twist at the end was excellent. Would definitely recommend and I look forward to reading the second book.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this new ARC. The Family Upstairs was a 4 star read for me. The mystery kept me guessing through the entire book. I enjoyed the different storylines, multiple POV's and I love an unreliable narrator. I felt like the last bit of the book was a little rushed in trying to wrap up all the plot points and crazy storylines but overall I very much enjoyed this wild ride.

Thank you to NetGalley for this copy of The Family Upstairs.
This was a very interesting book! It was not at all what I predicted but I was pleasantly surprised at the twists. This book does move at a much slower pace then I typically like in a thriller. I feel like it falls more in the Mystery genre then Thriller.
I really liked following the three different prospective and see as it all comes together in the end.
This was good!

The Family Upstairs is one of Lisa Jewell' s most intriguing books yet. I have read many of her psychological thrillers but this one really fits the bill. So much mystery and many morbid secrets are revealed through three characters' points of views. While Libby discovers her astonishing horrific past, the reader is constantly amazed at how circumstances can become even more unbelievable and disturbing. This book is one to reckon with.

The Family Upstairs is one of those books that doesn’t make its intention obvious. Instead, the author allows the winding plot to draw the reader in before getting to the point. And what a thrilling point it is. I did not see the climax of this story coming at all.
It initially unfolds from three perspectives. Libby finds out she has come into a big inheritance, which kicks off the chain of events for the rest of the book. Lucy is down on her luck in France. And Henry…well, Henry almost seems like an omniscient being for a good part of the story.
His chapters are set in the past, as if he is telling the story of what led to the present. We get everything that occurred from his point of view. I am not giving anything away to say that he is an odd duck from the beginning. And that point is continued up to the very end of the story.
More insidious is the story of the family upstairs and how Henry’s entire life is disrupted due to one person’s weakness. Whether that is the intention of the author I don’t know – but that’s what I got from it.
Without saying too much, the question of repetitive psychological abuse and its long-reaching influences weighs heavily in the story.
I can’t stress enough that this is not a book to be read with the intention of getting to the point. The reader must take in everything that is happening, allowing the author to tell the story in its own time.
In fact, it is better read if you let it consume you. I know that sounds odd but being immersed in the different points of view allows for a greater feeling of the horror suffered by the three main characters.
It takes a while, but when the relationships become clear, it feels like the entire story was building to that point – even as it didn’t feel that way while actually reading it.
I know this all sounds convoluted, and I don’t mean for it to be. This book is different from many others I have read. It is a memorable read and worth the time to really get involved in the characters’ storylines.
Surprisingly, it is apparently the first book I have read by this author. Don’t know how that is possible. But I certainly will be looking forward to reading the others in short order.

This was actually my first Lisa Jewell book, and I’m not mad at this book!
There were so many mixed reviews for this book, I truly didn’t know what to expect! But I was pleasantly surprised. I think the ending really up the star rating for me though!
This book is told in three different POVs and goes back and forth from the past to the present. The chapters were pretty short which made it a quick read.
The scary atmosphere and odd, unlikable personalities appealed to me. The satisfying ending was the cherry on top! Overall, it was a pretty good book. I’ll definitely add more of Lisa Jewell’s book on my TBR.

This is such a great story. I sort of wish I had read it in a more timely manner.
The police get a call to check on a house. They find 3 dead adults and a very alive baby. Is what appears to be a suicide pact something more? What events led up to the situation? Where are the rest of the house's inhabitants, including 4 teens of various ages?
The story will suck you in and keep you engaged. I like the way she presents unreliable narrators. I always enjoy books by this author.

Though it took me a million years to finish this book (time has a different meaning nowadays), it was not boring. I think my mind wasn't quite able to focus on reading and so I did it slowly. It's not my favorite by Jewell, who is an auto-buy author for me, but it was clever and entertaining. I got an ARC of her newest book, Invisible Girl, and am excited to start it soon as well!

I have loved everything that Lisa Jewel has ever written, and this story is no exception! This story kept me up late at night eager to read more! I loved all the twists and turns in this story! Thus, Mrs. Jewel has proven that she is still the queen of suspense!

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am a fan of Jewel’s and always look forward to her next read. This one was just okay in my opinion. I spent part of the book being very confused by some of the characters. Some of the timeline didn’t seem to add up. At some points she over explained things and at other times seemed to lack the explanation needed. But there were a couple of good twists and it was a short enjoyable read.

Fantastic story full of twists and curiosity that kept the pages turning! Lisa Jewell has done it again, and kept us guessing until the end. Very interesting plot line, not something you have read several times. Highly recommend giving it a read!

I thought this books was intriguing. It was different than most Lisa Jewell's books. I highly recommend

I originally started this one, then a third of the way through I put it down. It was so slow I was struggling to stay invested. After a while I picked it back up, and literally flew through the rest. It picked up and I ended up loving the second half!

I tried several times to read this book and I just could not get into it. Lisa Jewell has some really great stories out there, but this one just didn't hit the mark.

Lisa Jewell did it again. The weaving in and out and the guessing. I had no clue how it would end until it did end ----and then a cliffhanger!!! I am anxiously awaiting the sequel and was thrilled to hear that the story would be continued.

Having recently finished “The Family Upstairs” by Lisa Jewell, I am happy to have had the chance for the e-book copy; thank you NetGalley and Atria Books!
This was a quick story with alternating POV that kept the suspense going in such an entertaining way. As each chapter ended I was ready to flip between the three siblings dramas to find out where this twisty thriller would lead me. I have not been disappointed with any of Ms. Jewell's stories. I can't wait for the next one... the creepier... the better!

Tried to get into this one, as I've liked this author's books before. But I just found it hard to connect, and didn't think the first chunk of the book matched what I was expecting from the publisher's description. Lost interest and didn't finish.
