Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The synopsis of this book sounded interesting to me so I requested a copy to read.
Unfortunately, I have tried reading this book on 2 separate occasions and during this 2nd attempt, I have decided to stop reading this book
and state that this book just wasn't for me.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
I picked up The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler with a sense of confidence, thinking I’d be able to predict the plot quickly (especially since I was reading on Kindle, so the book felt a bit easier to skim). Well, I was completely wrong.
The story revolves around Gemma and Danny, a couple who have recently moved, only for Danny to go missing. That’s all I’ll say about the plot, because I don’t want to give too much away. But trust me when I say this book will outfox you. It certainly did for me. Time and again, I thought I had figured it all out, but Kabler’s clever twists and turns had me second-guessing myself at every step.
The characters were another highlight. They’re fully fleshed out and felt real, despite the dark themes and high tension running through the narrative. I was particularly impressed by the depth of Gemma’s character, whose reactions and decisions throughout the story kept me hooked.
As for the story, it’s an original, suspenseful ride that plunges into some incredibly dark territory, and I couldn't put it down. While I thought the plot might be a bit far-fetched at first, I soon realized it was part of the book's charm—building a sense of mystery and unease. The pacing was excellent, keeping me engaged from start to finish.
In contrast, the review you provided didn’t seem to reflect the strength of the book. While some may feel the plot is silly or the characters contrived, I found the storyline to be both unpredictable and compelling. The "big reveal" may not be as grandiose as some might expect, but it is certainly satisfying in how it ties everything together.
Overall, The Perfect Couple is a fast-paced, intriguing psychological thriller that kept me guessing. Its dark themes and engaging twists made it a thrilling read, and I’d definitely recommend it to fans of suspense and mystery.
Fantastic thrilled fast paced I enjoyed it so much this book kept me guessing from start too finish this is worth a read
I breezed through "The Perfect Couple" in just one evening, finding its twists and turns kept me hooked from start to finish.
Gemma and her husband Danny's move to Bristol promised a fresh start, but when Gemma returns home from a work trip to find Danny missing, annoyance quickly turns to concern. The situation escalates when Danny's disappearance coincides with the murders of two men who bear a striking resemblance to him. As the police investigate, inconsistencies in Gemma and Danny's story begin to surface, casting doubt on their relationship and motivations.
While most of the book was a gripping and enjoyable read, I found the ending to be a bit too far-fetched and over-the-top for my taste. It veered into territory that felt disconnected from the rest of the story, leaving me somewhat unsatisfied.
I received an advanced copy of "The Perfect Couple" from Harper Impulse, Killer Reads, and NetGalley, and I appreciate the opportunity to read and review it. Rest assured, all opinions expressed here are my own and are free from any outside influence.
First one for me from this author. Enjoyed the storyline and characters a lot! 4 STARS. I’ll be thinking about this one for awhile!
Nicely done thriller. Who is, or was, Danny? Gemma thought she knew but then he disappeared and bodies started to turn up. No spoilers from me.
"The Perfect Couple" is a delightful mix of romance and mystery. Kabler weaves an engaging plot with charming characters. The coastal setting adds a refreshing backdrop to the story. It's a perfect read for those who enjoy a balance of love and intrigue.
Not 100% my thing, but did enjoy reading it.
Fab book. Got me hooked from start. I just wanted to know what was coming next.
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me this book

An engaging tale with twists that pulls the reader in. It makes the reader question who said what, who is doing what, and who is telling the truth.
The perfect couple … or the perfect lie? A devoted wife, a missing husband, a serial killer and suspicious police.
This mystery keeps you guessing until the last chapters.

Fabulous plot which I could not put down. Brilliant characters, and twists and turns. Highly recommend to other fans of this genre!!
A really gripping read from the very start. Keeps you guessing, with so much tension. I couldn't stop reading! Looking forward to reading more from the author.
I wanted to like this book, the premise was interesting. Gemma’s husband Danny disappeared while she was on a business trip, and she’s horrified to find out that the victims of a local serial killer all look like Danny. The beginning of the book was strong but it went downhill from there. I’m not a “CSI” expert, but even I could tell that the way evidence was handled etc. was incorrect.
The book read very slowly for me, despite all of the twists and turns in the plot. 3 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I love the cover of this novel and the inside. "The Perfect Couple" is an suspenseful novel by Jackie Kabler. A page turner for sure.
This novel is just another cliche. You'll guess the plot twist at about 30% and honestly when they revealed it I just slipped the last 13% of the book because it was just so...standard.
There are better novels out there for things like this. I wouldn't recommend this book.
Have you ever ordered crab cakes at a restaurant that have way too much filler and not enough crab in them? Well this book was like that. There was some good meat in the story. In fact, the mystery aspect was incredibly intriguing. I wanted to know what happened to Danny and that kept me invested through most of the book! BUT...most of the story was filler. It had repetitive dialogue, meaningless tangents and not enough plot to keep it exciting and fresh. It felt like I was re-reading the same plot elements over and over again. The characters lacked color and the detective in particular was off-putting.
The ending was unusual in a not so good way. By 80% the mystery was resolved yet the story kept going and going. It felt like the author was trying to draw this book out to make it a novel but honestly would've been much better as a short.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is told from two peoples perspectives in alternating chapters.
It is very addictive and compelling.
The authors writing is improving with each book that she writes.
Gemma and Danny have been together for a year. The relationship seems to be solid ... the couple is seemingly happy.
But then one night, Danny doesn't come home. When she reports him missing to the police, she's stunned to discover there is a serial killer running rampant ... and the photos of the victims all look just like Danny.
When the police investigate, what they find is more questions. Why is there no trace of him i their home? Why has no one except Gemma heard from Danny in weeks?
Is she telling them the truth .. or is there something more sinister in the works?
This started out with a genuinely interesting plot, although the writing seems a little choppy. I would like to say it got better the more I read ... but I can't. There's nothing unique or magnetic about the characters. The police were not credible at all. I found myself skipping pages to get to the end ... which was less than satisfying. Not the worst I've ever read ... but very disappointing.
Many thanks to the author / One More Chapter - Harper 360 / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I thought this book was brilliant, hooked me right in from beginning to end.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I was able to read this book thanks to NetGalley. It was an entertaining and quick paced thriller. I was very invested in the story and the characters. I especially love domestic thrillers. I will be on the lookout for more books by this author and I will be recommending this one to fellow book lovers. Thanks again to NetGalley for the opportunity to read snd review this book.
This was okay but I felt like the author was trying to write to two different stories and as a result the central one suffered.
