Gemma, a freelance journalist, comes home after an assignment to an empty home and no clues as to the whereabouts of her husband. After a couple of days pass with still no word from him she contacts the police. They aren't inclined to take it seriously until they realize he fits the same description as the victims of the serial killer case they are working on. When they begin delving into Danny's life they wind up with more questions than answers. And the biggest question of all is this: Why have none of Danny and Gemma's new neighbors ever seen Danny, or anyone else that can verify that Danny is alive?
I have mixed feelings on this book. The police seemed overly incompetant, making mistakes that no cop with any experience would make. Gemma was really tenacious; I will give her that. She would not stop trying to prove that he was missing and that she didn't kill him. It did end with a nice plot twist. I liked the book but I didn't love it so I will give it 4 stars.

Well, what a great book!! Really surprised me!

It was written in two points of view, the wife and the detective. This was a unique look at both sides of the story, which really added depth for me.

The book was written in realistic language and dialogue and was very easy to follow. It had a good pace throughout and had me interested from the very beginning!

It had lots of twists and turns towards the end which I did not see coming at all! Obviously, I don’t want to give anything away, but I did not guess the ending at all!

I would recommend this one!

I have read lots of thriller type books over the years and most of the time I usually end up working out who the killer is or what has happened.
This book had me on the edge of my seat and trying to work out the criminal from the first instance.
I had everyone pinned as the killer and the twists and turns had me page turning as fast as I could!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be recommending it to everyone in my online book club and family and friends
I want to thank the author, the publishers and netgalley for the opportunity to read this amazing book. I would give it 6 out of 5 if I could!
This is my honest review

This one was not a good fit for me but by all means don’t let me stop you from reading this especially if you are new to the suspense genre. I just don’t enjoy books where I’m asked to suspend believe and the story is just too far fetched. Thank you publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

Thanks so much netgalley for letting me read this amazing story.
When I first started this book I thought it was too drawn out and I just wanted to get on with the real story, and then wow it got really exciting.
Gemma and Danny were married and had just bought a new house together and were ready to settle down and have a family.
But one day when Gemma came, home from work expecting Danny to be home the thriller started.
Where was Danny .
Did Gemma really know anything about him, no one near where they had bought their new house had ever seen him, no one at his work knew where he was as he had left weeks ago, and when Gemma reported him missing to the police they thought she had murdered him.
This was a really good read but I could have been a bit shorter.

Eh....I've read I Found You by Lisa Jewell. I'm good with missing husbands/serial killer storylines.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was a fantastic read. I found it very easy to read whilst the plot was packed with detail and was more on the complex side. I felt like I personally knew the detectives very early on.

I did guess near the beginning how it would all end but the story line still offered suspense and twists along the way. Sometimes knowing how it ends adds to the enjoyment of the read.

This one drug a little for me, I'm not sure why. I figured it out early on, but I think it was the police parts that weren't clicking.

Gemma is a freelance journalist and needs to travel on occasions for short durations so when she comes home one day following a work trip away she is excited to reconnect with her husband Danny. But when Gemma arrives home expecting to see her new husband he's disappeared and she has no idea where he could be.
The tale unfolds and as Gemma tries to discover just where her husband is she quickly learns that other men with a similar description and age etc have been recently discovered Murdered!
Worst still, it appears she is the No 1 suspect.
We see that as time goes by over the following weeks in despair and confusion
slowly secrets unfold and it appears that not all is as Gemma thought her relationship to be.

I did find that times the pacing of the story slowed and my mind wandered. but the story did have me guessing until the very end when I was quite surprised at the plot twist all be it very far fetched.
This is a slow moving psychological thriller by Jackie Kabler and never really gripped me. The main character Gemma was a little hard to swallow at times, naive and incredibly frustrating - I am not sure someone who reported for the main tabloids would be this stupid.
However as always I invest in my characters and the story gave me some great diversity.
The detectives investigating were given great personas and I was fully invested in their relationships. Well written and and believable the characters are narrated throughout by the detectives and Gemma.
Thank you for the advanced copy

The only way to describe Jackie Kabler’s THE PERFECT COUPLE is Gone Girl meets The Perfect Husband meets Double Jeopardy. Ms. Kabler has created a doozy of a tale that tweaks your senses, wreaks havoc on your deductive powers, and leaves you wanting more.

After recently relocating to Bristol with Danny, her husband on one year. Gemma returns home from a business trip expecting to find Danny waiting with a home cooked meal but finds no meal and no Danny. Nothing is missing. All of his belongings, including his passport, are still there and nothing in the apartment has been disturbed…..so where is her husband.

Two days later, after exhausting all possible leads on Danny’s whereabouts, she goes to the police to report him missing. Initially the cops are sympathetic but slowly become skeptical of her story, especially since none of Gemma’s neighbors has ever seen Danny and there are several other things concerning his disappearance that don’t make sense. The cherry on top of this cake is another case the cops are working on…….the search for a serial killer whose first two victims bear a striking resemblance to Danny.

Even after you think you have the answer, this addictive domestic thriller will keep you reading.

At times the book was a real 'page turner. A domestic murder mystery very well written with the author's descriptive imagery excellent.

The wife, Gemma, comes home from work to find her husband Danny missing. They had recently married and moved from London to The Downs area in Bristol. The story was told from Gemma's perspective and the (rather bumbling) detectives.

If you want red herrings, then don't fish here. Many chapters devoted to how Gemma is trying to work out why he left, and the police desperately trying to pin a murder, without a body, on her.

Apart from the brilliant writing, the pace of the book was terrific and I was keen to get to the end.which, unfortunately, was a little weak..

Thanks to Net Galley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for the chance to read and review.

This book started off excellent and ended predictably. This is your standard "my husband is missing" thriller. Generally, the characters were interesting and there were enough twists that kept me on the edge of my seat for the first 80 percent of the book. I didn't enjoy the last 20 percent of the book because the Gemma and the Detectives are still so oblivious to the truth and the fact that no one can think critically (for even a couple of moments) makes the characters seem one-dimensional.

Thanks for the ARC.

Thanks to @netgalley for a copy of this book to read and review. Gemma and Danny have been married for almost a year. They seem to have the perfect relationship. One day when Gemma comes home from a work trip Danny is missing. The book is told through two perspectives Gemma and the detectives who are investigating Danny’s disappearance and a string of murder that have been happening. Overall I enjoyed this book. I’ve seen some mixed reviews in Goodreads but it kept my attention and kept me guessing. Comes out April 17

A real page turner which twists and turns well. Whilst there is nothing surprising in here, the quality of the writing means it is a very strong read. Recommended.

Don’t we all want to be, an feel a pang of jealousy, when we see those “perfect couples” in our lives! This book explores what really goes on behind closed doors, and the twists and turns keep the reader engrossed and staying up late to see what happens next - an awesome book!

Based on its blurb, The Perfect Couple sounded like a great, twisty domestic suspense thriller and, at times, it was with its intriguing premise and loads of red herrings. But it wasn't a good fit for this avid suspense reader for a few reasons.

The story was very slow moving almost from the start and never quite gripped me. It was also unclear to me what kind of book the author was going for. It's not quite a crime thriller but not a domestic suspense either and as the story progressed it took on a Movie of the Week feel that I did not enjoy. The plot required me to suspend disbelief more than I was willing to go but what frustrated me the most was Gemma's character who, for a former crime reporter, came off aggravatingly naïve, dense and someone I just couldn't get behind as a main character.

What I did like about this book was the diversity of its characters and how the police investigator was given more depth than you'd typically expect. But, as a whole, these experienced police detectives came off bumbling at best - ignoring evidence and focusing on Gemma as their one and only suspect. The last straw for me was towards the end when one character's confession is revealed - it felt like it came out of nowhere and readers are just supposed to go along with a far-fetched twist. And don't get me started on the last 'surprise' which had Movie of the Week written all over it.

As you may have guessed The Perfect Couple wasn't a good fit for me. I was more frustrated than intrigued as I pushed myself to finish this predictable story. Perhaps this would be a good pick for someone entering into the world of suspense reads but regular readers of suspense may find too many holes in its plot.

This book had so much promise. The write-up was intriguing. It sucked me in from the beginning. The writing flowed and the storyline easy to follow. Unfortunately, there was no great mystery, everything was pretty evident as the story unfolded. I might have read too many detective books but I felt there were gaping holes in the research and the detectives looked like Keystone cops.

Good beach read or lazy Sunday read. Easy to pick up and put down.

Thanks to Ms. Kabler, Harper impulse and Killer Reads and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

"Maybe it wasn't so peculiar at all that the neighbours had never laid eyes on Danny. And what difference did it make, really? He was missing. He was gone."⁣

Gemma and Danny just moved to Bristol weeks ago. Now Danny is missing. Gemma hasn't heard from him for days. Shortly after contacting police she discovers that there may be a serial killer in Bristol who is killing men who happen to look like Danny. No one in Bristol seems to recall ever seeing Danny since they moved there. Does he even exist? Police believe she is lying about him but she believes Danny is the one who has been lying. Where is he?⁣

The ending was a surprise. I wasn't sure which theory I wanted to believe about Danny's whereabouts. The storyline was not like one I've read before. I definitely recommend that you read it.⁣

Now, this is what I call a psychological thriller! Twists, turns, puzzles, clues, fear.. Everything points to Gemma being a liar, possibly even a killer, but you somehow just know there's more going on than meets the eye. Surprises right to the end. Kept me gripped and guessing all the way. Loved it!
