I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
The Marriage Betrayal by Shalini Boland is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The story is filled with unexpected twists and turns, making it impossible to predict what would happen next. Boland's writing is sharp and engaging, effortlessly drawing the reader into the lives of the characters. The pacing is excellent, building suspense and tension throughout the story, with enough character depth to keep you invested.
The plot centers around the complexities of relationships, trust, and betrayal, with Boland expertly weaving in elements of mystery and intrigue. The tension between the main characters is palpable, making it easy to get emotionally involved in their fates. However, I did feel that the ending was slightly rushed compared to the meticulous build-up of the rest of the book, leaving some threads unresolved a bit too quickly.
Overall, The Marriage Betrayal is a thrilling, well-crafted novel that will satisfy fans of psychological suspense, even though the conclusion could have been a little more drawn out.
An intriguing read from Shalini Boland. As you would expect from a psychological thriller, this book was fast-paced, full of twists and turns.
The story sees Faye planning a surprise holiday to Swanage, for her husband (Jake’s) birthday. Their destination was chosen as it was where Jake & Lainey (his sister) grew up. They were joined in the holiday by Lainey, along with her family.
The feelings of discontent started with the families’ arrival at the holiday let, not being what they had expected. Then Boland starts the magical weaving of the threads of mystery and hidden secrets from the past.
With dual timelines, the reader is led towards an understanding of how past events may be influencing current unrest.
A missing child must be every parents worst nightmare! Faye’s emotions were raw and her panic palpable.
The investigation and search move the pace and tension along quickly. Then the final twists began and I was absorbed. A fabulous read.
A gripping psychological thriller . Secrets , twists and surprising revelations all make this book a great read .
I'm surprised there was any room left in the family closet given the number of skeletons it contains in this story! Deliciously addictive reading.
How what seems like a perfect gift, turns out to be one from hell!
Have you have been through the same? Have you ever thought you found the perfect gift for someone and when they ripped the paper off to reveal what was inside, you saw their happy face become a horrified or sad one? Have you ever wanted to disappear through the floor and wishing you could turn back time? Or maybe you have tried to point out the positive sides of the gift and hope the other person could see it like that too?
Faye was convinced that she had found the best surprise for her husband and the rest of her family, but it seems like she was wrong. Very wrong, because she could never have imagined how things would pan out.
How she curses herself for not getting him something like a new tie, or a pair of socks or maybe a few bottles of wine. But no, she had to go through with her plan and ruin everything. She could have saved herself so much heartache.
Fans of this author know that this is not the end of it. It’s just the beginning. A psychological thriller is meant to mess with your head. So beware about what she is about to do to yours.
Thank you
An interesting read which I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone looking for a good domestic thriller.
Shalini Boland is an author that I found on NetGalley. There is a twist in every novel and it's always shocking. I can't wait to read every single one of her books.
Faye’s husband and son go missing and her son’s hat is found at the top of some cliffs. Just how well did she know her husband? What was he hiding? And will she ever see them again alive?
This book was twisty, fun and at times I was with the main character in her fear and nerves. I enjoyed it a lot.
Another brilliant tale from this talented writer. Lots of twists and turns and an ending you’ll never guess at. A fast pace belter of a read
This latest book by Shalini Boland was hard to put down.
I was enthralled from the start with both the pace and the many twists and turns.
Excellent psychological thriller.
Another fantastic read from Shalini Boland! Unlike most of her other books, it took me a little while to really get hooked with this one but once I did, I couldn't stop reading.
I always really enjoy Shalini Boland's books and I totally spaced not having read this one already. This is basically every mom's worst nightmare. Faye's husband takes her son on an early morning walk during their family holiday...and they don't come back. Her son's baseball hat is found on a cliff, and Faye contacts the police to begin the frantic search for her son.
This book blew me away. I knew there would be a twist, but the end of the book was so satisfying. I love when a monster character gets the justice he so rightly deserves. I LOVED that Faye planned this elaborate murder all along with her husband's very own sister. I only took off a star because the police aspect seemed so unresolved. Faye leaves the country, meets up with Dylan, and there's no police resolution. They just leave her to disappear? That didn't really make sense to me. Other than that, I loved this book so much. Another great Bookouture book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I have now had the pleasure to read a couple of books by this author and have really enjoyed all of her books. The Marraige Betrayal will keep you page turning till you reach the last chapter. Faye surprises her husband Jake for his birthday by renting a house for their family and his sister's in their home town. She is surprised when neither him or his sister is eager to return. Why do they not want to go back. What are they hiding. The mystery deepens when Fay's husband Jake goes missing with their young son a few days in to the holiday. Faye must turn to her sister in law Lainey for answers. A twisty read, that will not disappoint. Totally recommend.
