This is a really great book. It is a domestic mystery. Faye and her brother-in-law plan a surprise vacation for Faye’s husband Jake , and Jake’s sister. The vacation takes place in a small seaside town where Jake and his sister grew up. It becomes quite apparent in the beginning of the book, that neither Jake nor his sister want to revisit the life they had in their hometown. This book held my interest throughout , Great characters, and a very exciting plot with a totally unexpected ending. I would look forward to reading more books by this author. I will certainly recommend this book to friends and family.

What a life Faye had which turned out to be in favour for Lainy!
So many secrets within a family,a monster amongst them. Had me fooled as the author knew what route to take to make us think differently. Who will be the weak link and will they be discovered? Will Lainy get her own back with Kayla?
Amazing read.

Shalini Boland does it again . I shouldn't be surprised , I've loved all her others . The stories are still fresh and original and The marriage betrayal was no exception . I absolutely loved it and read it in one sitting . Faye surprises her husband with a holiday in his hometown . They are accompanied by Jakes sister and her family too . Both Lainey and Jake are not particularly thrilled to be back where they grew up and for good reason as we come to find out . One morning Jake takes Dylan his son for a walk and they don't return , Faye is distraught and as the hours pass the police are involved . It was fast paced , exciting , and as per usual a great twist . A fantastic 5 stars for me

The Marriage Betrayal by Shalini Boland is an addictive and gripping psychological thriller, full of twists and turns that you will never see coming. Ms Boland is very quickly becoming one of my favourite authors, and I will be adding all of her books to my 'to be read' list immediately.

Faye and her brother-in-law Tom have decided to surprise their respective spouses, Jake and Lainey, with a short holiday to the seaside town of Swanage. Siblings Jake and Lainey grew up in the town, and their spouses hope that the visit will invoke happy childhood memories. But soon after arriving, both brother and sister are unsettled to be back in the familiar surroundings. Something has happened in Swanage that neither Jake nor Lainey want to revisit. The group agree to abort the ill-advised holiday, until Jake and his son Dylan fail to return from a morning outing to the cliffs. Faye, along with Tom and Lainey, is frantic for answers. And who is the mysterious figure who is seemingly bearing witness to it all?

Alternating between past and present, this is a dark and twisty tale that will keep you up late into the night, but the ending is well worth any sleep deprivation you might endure. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this fabulous ARC..

Makes you want to think twice about taking a holiday?

Shalini Boland has done it, again! A truly wonderful mystery/suspense/thriller! Jake and Faye are on holiday with their 7 year old son, Dylan. Also, along, are Jake's sister, Lainy, and brother-in-law, Tom - with their two daughters. This, as a surprise for Jake's birthday, Faye had booked a week in a house in Swanage, where Jake and Lainy had grown up. Jake is sour - and does not want to be there. Lainy isn't too happy, either. Both Tom and Faye feel terrible - all they wanted to do was be nice. It had been a mistake to go there. After dinner, at a restaurant, it is decided that they will all leave the house the following day. This, after the dolphin show and a picnic.

The only problem is that Jake and Dylan (who went to the show) have taken much longer than expected. Where wereJake and Dylan? Were they hurt? Or were they.... In fact, Faye and Tom go out to look for them while Lainy watches the girls. After 11 hours, they call the police. DS Nash heads up the investigation.

That evening, Faye and Lainy go out to look for Jake and Dylan and try a pub. There they meet Cath, who was married to Mark Tamworth - now divorced from him. Cath tells them to contact Mark because he knows the town well and maybe can help with contacts. The question is: Mark and Jake were on the outs - would he help? OR was he perhaps, in some way, responsible for this? Tom and Faye go to question Mark and he runs away.

The search continues. Pieces of the puzzle seem to begin to fall into place, and then break apart. Or was this something else entirely?

A harrowing story! I read in one sitting! HIGHLY recommend. Ms. Boland does not disappoint - a brilliant story that should be considered as a likely bestseller!

Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a powerful and engaging read!

I’m sorry but I couldn’t get past the fourth chapter. The writing does not flow, I want a story that brings me into its world not leaves me aware that I’m on my sofa reading a book. Unfortunate since the blurb sounded promising.

Faye is married to Jake Townsend, and they have a son Dylan. She gives up her career as an artist, to help Jake with his business which enables her to work from home and take care of Dylan.
As a surprise birthday outing for Jake, she alongwith her brother-in-law, Tom, plan a perfect summer trip for her family. She decides to book a holiday home in the small seaside town of Swanage, where Jake and his sister, Lainy, grew up. Lainy and Tom are also part of the trip, along with their two daughters.
However, returning to Swanage seems to irk both Jake and Lainy. They seem uncomfortable to be back in their childhood town, which gives a distinct impression that they are trying to hide something from their past. The question is what?

Having to deal with both Jake and Lainy’s grumpy mood and edgy behavior is causing too much stress on Faye. And then, the unthinkable happens.
Jake and Dylan go for an early morning walk along the beautiful, windswept clifftops for dolphin watching. But, they don’t come back. As minutes turn into hours, panic mode hits the family.
What could have possibly happened to them?

In steps Detective Nash, who assures Faye that they will do everything possible to Jake and Dylan.
The community also steps in to help with the search. But when Dylan’s red baseball cap is found on the beach, Faye cannot help but think of the worst.
How far can and will a mother go to save her only child?
What seems perfect on the surface, may not always be!

Told between the then and the now, from alternative viewpoints (and the voice of a mystery man), this is a totally gripping read, and an absolute page-turner!

A brilliant read, with a fantastic twist in the end, that I didn’t see coming.

Wow this must be Shalini Boland's best work yet. I'm a big fan of her novels and this one left me breathless.

What started as a nice family holiday turned into a nightmare with the disappearance of the husband and the child. And we race with the main character to try to piece the mystery which is linked to an incident in the past.

The plot is gripping and I literally couldn't put the book down and the twists kept pouring in. The story is alternating between the past and the present and Boland beautifully builds the tension until the brilliant ending which I didn't expect at all.

Thanks Netgalley, Bookouture, and author Shalini Boland for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, wow, wow, wow! Shalini Boland is one hell of a story teller. I think I may still be in shock after reading this. I really don’t know how she does it but yet again she has totally knocked my socks off.

What should have been a lovely family holiday turns out to be Faye’s worst nightmare. Her husband and son both disappearing. Luckily for her they went with her sister in law and her family so she has someone to lean on.

The story flicks from present day to the past when Jake and his sister were in their teens. It’s obvious that something has happened in the small seaside town but just what, I had no clue and we are fed bits throughout the main story of the disappearance of Jake and Dylan whilst waiting for this revelation.

Yet again I loved the build up of suspense as to what has happened to Jake and his son. I really felt for Faye and her sister in law and what they were going through. The further into the story we get the more my heart started pounding as I know how the author loves to play with her readers mind and yet again she did not fail me.

The Marriage Betrayal is a gripping story that will send your heart racing. It’s another of her books that I can’t wait for all my friends to read so I can talk to them about it and see if they saw any of the revelations coming, as I certainly didn’t. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
