Another fantastic book by shalini who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. Her books never disappoint and this one kept me hooked from start to finish. Lots of twists and turns

There are a lot of things that I really liked about this book. The story is an intriguing, well-put-together psychological thriller with several unexpected twists and turns that kept me staying up late at night to read. There isn’t any swearing—which seems to be virtually unheard of anymore, and that is something I like, as well as many others whose opinions I read in reviews. Also--drum roll please! the author didn’t throw in any of those moment-by-moment sex scenes, which I really dislike in these books.

The story is told in the main characters point-of-view, which really adds to the story. I definitely feel this book is a solid four stars.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Marriage Betrayal’ by Shalini Boland in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Faye Townsend has organised a surprise holiday to celebrate her husband Jake’s birthday and together their six-year-old son Dylan, Jake’s sister Lainy and her family they drive to the seaside town of Swanage where Jake and Lainy spent their childhood. The following day Jake takes Dylan for an early morning walk to explore the cliffs and look for wildlife but when they don’t return home by late afternoon Faye starts worrying and rings the police. Before long Dylan’s red cap is found on the beach and the police question Faye about Jake and their marriage. But this is just the beginning of Faye’s nightmare!

‘The Marriage Betrayal’ is a well-written story of intrigue, moving from sixteen-year-old Jake and his younger sister Lainy at the beach party to the events of the present time. It’s a gripping psychological thriller that had me hooked from the beginning, with a plot that was dramatic and suspenseful, believable characters, twists and turns, the final twist completely shocking and not what I was expecting. The result is spine-chilling, tense, exciting and highly readable and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Shalini Boland is THE Queen of Twists and Psychological Thrillers! 👑 And this new book is Pure Shalini crazy! I loved every word, page and paragraph! I was hooked and I did get emotional reading it.
This was a definite “nothing is what you think it is” story. I admit, it fooled me, but i’m glad it did.

I have loved every single book I have read by Boland and this was no exception. It was a short book, a quick read but very entertaining. I did guess the ending but still enjoyed this twisty story a lot.

This was my first read by Shalini Boland. There were some great twists in this read. It was an easy read with well-developed characters. I'd say it's a psychological thriller.

I"ll definitely check out other books by this author!

They say that a mother's bond to her kids is strong, and in The Marriage Betrayal by Shalini Boland this proves to be true. Faye has booked the perfect holiday for her husband Jake's birthday. They pack up their family and travel to Jake's childhood hometown along with his sister and her husband. From the moment they arrive, things with Jake are off. During their vacation a mother's worst nightmare becomes a reality when Jake and their son Dylan go missing.

Faye has shown that she will stop at nothing to be reunited with her family once again. As all psychological thrillers, this one has one hell of a twist. The story bounces back from the past to the present, and we slowly start to see why Jake and his sister aren't excited to be back to their hometown.

The story had me hooked from the start, I was just as confused as others by the twist since I had no clue it was coming. Like Faye, I discovered that her husband was not the person he said he was. I loved the slow build-up of suspense, as we guessed what really happened to Jake and Dylan. All throughout the book, we are given clues as to what might have possibly happened to them.

With all this, I was not overly satisfied with the ending. In my opinion, I felt like we built up the book so much for a grand finale but just felt that the end was rushed. Although it gave us some closure, in the end it just left me wanting more!

The Marriage Betrayal, Shalini Boland's newest release, is a delicious summer treat. Faye and her husband Jake, along with their 6 year-old son Dylan, seem to have the perfect life in the UK. Faye plans a summer vacation for both her family and Jake's sister's family-back to the seaside town where Jake and his sister grew up. It is clear that Jake and his sister Lainey are uncomfortable returning to their hometown. Then, during a sightseeing trip, Jake and Dylan disappear and all that is left behind is a red baseball cap. As the police investigate, the story is told in alternating timelines, all leading to the past and present colliding. Just when you think you know the direction the book is headed Boland veers off into another twist! Just how far would you go to save your family? Read The Marriage Betrayal and find out!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

I've read almost every book by this author, so I was excited to get my hands on her latest, The Marriage Betrayal. The premise sounded intriguing and Boland has a knack for exploring what happens to ordinary people in less than ordinary situations. It wasn't quite as gripping as I hoped it would be, and I guessed the ending and a number of twists and turns, which slightly took away from my reading pleasure. It also bothered me that the word "mousy" was used rather often to describe women, which I think wasn't necessary. It's not a bad book by any means and I read it over the course of three days, but it's not my favorite by Boland either. That being said, it was entertaining as a holiday read and I will continue to read her books in the future.

I love Shalini Boland novels. As of yet I have not read a bad book. From her, however this one didn’t grip me in the same way her other books have done in the past. It’s a very good storyline, I just can’t put my finger on why it didn’t have the same type of grip her novels normally do. In fact I at first thought there had been some kind of mixup with downloading the book. It was one of those books that the more I read the more I wanted to read, I became so intrigued to know what was going to happen next. There’s enough twists and turns to throw you right off what you think is going to come next. Also the book eventually got its claws into me, oh boy what a few shockers they where coming, that honestly you didn’t see coming at all it really through my head in a spin because they came out of nowhere. No way did I see the end coming. I genuinely had no idea how things would end, yet another shocking unexpected ending for Faye and Laine. In truth never ever did I expect laine to come out with what she did with regards to Owen, especially with jake being such a person who likes full control. No spoilers I am afraid you just have to read the book. I do recommend you read it, you will be surprised at some of the twists I have just about managed to pick my chin up off the floor. It’s a very very interesting storyline and although I have managed to pick my chin up I am still sat here writing this review with my mouth open trying to see if anywhere I missed anything to point to such brilliant quality of the twist and turns. I can honestly say no I didn’t miss anything I do recommend you read the book even if it doesn’t grab you in the same way some books do because eventually the book gets its hooks into you and no matter what you feel compelled to find out what happens.

Faye Townsend has planned what she thinks will be the perfect surprise trip for her husband Jake's birthday. She's booked a large house overlooking the sea in the seaside town of Swanage in Dorset where he grew up and invited Jake's sister and family along with her own young son Dylan. However, once they get there Jake is sullen and withdrawn and clearly not happy to be back in Swanage. The holiday mood does not improve and they decide to go home early but the day they are due to leave Jake and Dylan disappear. A search by police and volunteers will find Dylan's red cap but no hints of where they might be.

This is a very twisty psychological thriller. On the surface Jake and Faye seem to have a perfect marriage and family but there are secrets in the marriage and secrets in Jake's past in Swanage which all contribute to the current events. Ms Boland always seems to have a surprise killer of a twist up her sleeve that you don't see coming and she doesn't fail to deliver here, although I did think the plot was a bit unrealistic and extreme in the circumstances.

SHALINI BOLAND surprised me again in this outstanding thriller The Marriage Betrayal. Faye a married woman with a small boy attempts to surprise her husband with a fun vacation for his birthday with his sister and brother in law. However when they get there, everything goes wrong.

When it’s her husband’s 34th birthday, Faye gets the bright idea to surprise her husband, Jake, with a trip back home to his hometown of Swanage. It’ll be a family vacation with their son Dylan, Jake’s sister Lainey, her husband Tom and their two daughters. Lainey and Jake haven’t been back to Swanage for almost two decades and Faye feels this is the perfect time to revisit where they grew up.

Faye rents a victorian cottage by the ocean, in the hopes that they’ll enjoy the sun and sand. But when they arrive, Jake and Lainey aren’t pleased to be returning to Swanage. It’s clear that there are memories the siblings wanted to leave behind them, souring their ability to enjoy this family vacation.

Jake and Lainey decide it’s best to leave Swanage early, as they can’t fully enjoy themselves. But before leaving, Jake wants to take Dylan to see the dolphins early in the morning. But they never return from their father-son adventure, throwing Faye into immediate panic. Faye, Lainey and Tom are desperate to find Dylan and Jake—they immediately contact the local police and a search and rescue is formed to find them.

Now Faye is wondering what happened to her husband and son. Are they hurt? Did something happen to them? Or did they leave on their own accord? And if so, does Faye truly know the man she married?

The Marriage Betrayal by Shalini Boland is yet another quick, twisty thriller from one of my favorite UK thriller authors. From start to finish, I was kept in a state of suspense and had no clue where this story was going. I was just along for the ride and enjoying every second of it. One of my favorite things in thrillers is when authors employ the usage of a double reveal—Shalini Boland timed her reveals perfectly and I didn't see them coming! This is a must read!! 4.5/5 stars.

I am a huge fan of Shalini Boland and this novel didn't fail. It tells the story of Faye and Jake and their son Dylan - they go with family back to their hometown for a holiday. However this place is full of secrets and no one is finding it easy being there. And so after only a day they decide to head home- Jake however wants to take Dylan on one small trip before they go home - Faye gets up and finds them already gone. As the day wears on, it seems strange they have been gone so long. As the day comes to an end she knows something has happened - Jake isn't answering his phone and no one seems to have seen them.

What an earth can have happened to them - have they been involved in an accident or have they been kidnapped.? I don't feel I can write anymore as it will give things away but please do read this - it is a cracking novel!

This is my third book by Shalini Boland and she doesn’t disappoint! Faye’s son and husband disappear while they are on a family vacation, and you soon learn everything is not as it seems. It had some fun twists, but my favorite of Boland’s work is the Perfect Family.
