Loved this book. Great characters, easy read, uplifting, funny, romantic and charming. A really nice story that is the perfect sumer read.
I was wondering when the next one in this series was coming along, and I was so pleased when I saw it pop up on Netgalley. Being pregnant myself, it was enjoyable to read about a character who is going through a similar situation - and I really enjoyed this fresh storyline. The cover also drew me in and made me want to read it as soon as it hit my kindle! I love the bright colours, the farmhouse in the background and of course the lone goat. It's eye-catching and it made me want to read it.
Reading about Ella and her unexpected pregnancy was really different to other kind of novels I tend to read. I was a bit shocked sometimes with how Serge was hiding and I was worried for Ella and what she would uncover, it appeared to me at the beginning that he was hiding things from her. And I felt that Ella had been through quite a lot already - she didn't deserve to keep getting knock backs and more bad news! I enjoyed reading about her life in Paris, but when they made the move to the French countryside, I found myself enjoying this part even more - perhaps because there was more drama!
When Ella and Serge make the move, one of the conditions is for them to start renovations straight away, as quite understandably, Ella doesn't want to live in a rundown farmhouse - especially with a new baby! However, even though Serge agrees, he soon makes other plans, and all behind Ella's back! Ella is hurt and soon realises that she hates life in the country. She also worries about what other things Serge is keeping from her.
There's quite a lot of drama throughout, but this just added to the already amazing storyline. I really enjoyed reading about Ella and her quest to start a cheese room (but what ends up as more of an English tea room!). I enjoyed the characters and the location. Everything was making it more and more like a perfect summer read. Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read an advance copy of this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.
This is the follow up to Escape to the Paris Cheese Shop which I haven't read. Escape to the French Farmhouse is a stand alone read. There are plenty of references throughout to keep you updated about what happened in the previous novel. Having moved to Paris from Australia following the break up of her ten year old relationship Ella finds love there. Now in this episode she discovers she is pregnant and she and her boyfriend move to the Loire valley.
There are many 'lifestyle' novels such as this and this one has nothing unique to offer. The heroine Ella doesn't come across particularly well - she spends a lot of time whinging - and her boyfriend might as well not be there so little impact does he have on the reader.
I didn't really enjoy this novel. The endless descriptions of 'gooey' unpasteurised cheese were annoying and not particularly informative. There wasn't much of a plot and really, nothing much happened. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This is the second book in the series and my word it's amazingly brilliant I couldn't put it down and read it in two days as so excellent. The characters are great and the setting is brilliant you believe you are there. Still plenty about cheese and very romantic but shows how relationships can be hard as well and you have to work at it. It's heartwarming and a great read. Shows how they change their lives to be a family.
Ella moved to Paris to get away suddenly in the last book she fell in love with Serge a cheese monger but she's been with him for six months now and finds out she is expecting to start with is she sure this is what she wants but Serge is so happy when he finds out but doesn't want to bring a family up in Paris do he takes Ella to a country house in France and says he's brought it for them. She doesn't want to leave Paris and the house is so run down but they agree to try it for a while to see how she likes it. It's a farm as well and Serge struggles to get the farm off the ground and also Ella gets very friendly with another English speaking person called chuck. She wants to set up a cafe with a cheese shop for serge to sell his cheese in one of the barns but can she be excepted by other villagers so will it be a success and how will her pregnant go. Chuck lends Ella the money to open up her shop but she doesn't tell serge and he thinks her parents have lent it they have an argument after the opening of the shop and serge says she's spending to much time with chuck and things get heated so she goes back to Paris but while there she realises she misses serge but when she goes in labour and has their baby will they be able to make it up and be happy living in the country or have they got past that stage.
Fantastic read worth far more than two stars.
