Amber Blackwood is the main character. She is a witch making toys come alive. Her shop is called The Quirky Whisker, which I just love that name. She sells herbal remedies, candles and toys. She tries to help her friend Melanie who has been feeling sick for a while. She is found dead and the local sheriff who distrusts her makes her the main suspect. She uses her magic to try to find out who really killed her friend. I really enjoyed this book and will be looking for the next one in the series.

I have read other books from this author and Pawsitively Poisonous does not disappoint. It was a great easy to follow storyline that left you wanting more.

Well crafted characters made this a pleasure to read.

The author, has lifelong resident Amber of Oregon, owner of The Quirky Whisker, about to have her secret discovered when Melanie her friend is found dead. The worst part is that she is found with a vial from Amber's store clutched to her hand.

This book kept me guessing until the very end

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

This is an adorable read. Great characters in a town I would love to live in due to it being cat centered. Love this story and will definitely continue reading this series.

After reading Melissa Erin Jackson’s novel, The Forgotten Child, I have been all to eager to read more of her books. This lead me to her novel, Pawsitively Poisonous.

What can I say about this series starter? Well, it was a positively perfect cozy witchy mystery that has me wanting more. I can not wait to read the next book in the Witch of Edgehill series, Pawsitively Cursed. The novel follows Amber Blackwood as she tries to cope with her friend’s murder, remove herself from the suspect list, and hide her powers from everyone in the small, cat-loving town.

There’s one twist and turn after the other, that’ll keep you guessing right up until the very end. I highly recommend this novel for all those lovers of cats and Cozy Mysteries.

This book is a fine example of what I would consider to be the cozy mystery genre. It takes place in a quaint, small town- and let me tell you this small town that is completely themed around cats from the names of stores (Purrcolate) and the names of streets (American Curl) is amazingly adorable. Amber Blackwood, the main character, is a witch. It is this hint of the supernatural, and the use of spells to assist in her sleuthing, that makes this book different from the typical cozy mystery. The setting is fabulous, the characters are likable, and the author plants a few seeds for mysteries that may come to light in later books in the series. I highly recommend this for anyone that wants a magical, kitty themed cozy mystery series, and I look forward to reading the next book!

Love the combination of cozy mystery and fantasy, in a classic small-town setting. Light and frothy; an entertaining read.

Maybe it’s because the cover screams October and Halloween, and it’s now December and winter... I couldn’t get into this book. I love cosy stories and mysteries, too. Even though they’re generally hit or miss for me. This had so much potential but it was dry and just very one dimensional. I only got about 20% in before I threw in the towel and called it quits.

In Edgehill,OR, Amber Blackwood runs the Quirky Whisker. It's a town with a feline theme from streets to stores to its annual festival, Here and Meow. She's lived there all her life, but few know her secret. The toys in her shop display special tricks and her teas and potions are oddly potent. When her good friend is under the weather, she gives her a tea to sleep. Shortly thereafter, get friend is found dead and the goal of the sleeping lotion clutched in her hand. Amber has to save her reputation and stay out of jail. This new paranormal mystery has plenty of charm and potential for more books down the road.. Read and enjoy.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. Pawsitively Poisonous is the first book in the new Witch of Edgehill series and it was so good. I loved getting to enter this new world and meet these new characters. I just fell in love with this story and these characters and I am so excited to see what this author writes next.

Pawsitively Poisonous by Melissa Erin Jackson is about Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon who has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive person. Her store, The Quirky Whisker, is full of strange potent teas to kids toys which run without batteries. Amber’s secret, that she is a witch is in jeopardy when her friend is found dead with a vial of headache tonic in her hand. The Chief of Police has it in for her and the cat festival is a big thing in town so there are a lot of cats in this book. It was a very good light mystery, very entertaining and full of fun.

Pawsitively Poisonous is the first in a new series of cozy paranormal mysteries by Melissa Erin Jackson, and it’s a very quirky little trip through a town famous only for its obsession with cats! I was somewhat suspicious but intrigued by the premise, and the main character, Amber, sounded like a cool sort of person. 😉 Hehe. As of right now there are two books published in the series with a third coming out later this year.

Things I Liked

- As I thought I would, Amber! She makes toys for kids, has an insatiable curiosity, and weird things happen around her. At least she can blame magic, mine is usually just sheer clumsiness.
- What’s up with the sheriff’s intense dislike of Amber? I was super intrigued by it and it’s never entirely explained, so maybe in later books.
- Amber’s cats are cute and hilarious and the author MUST have cats because they totally DO carry on conversations with their owners. All without ever saying a word.
- I loved that Amber uses her magic to run a toyshop. It’s so cute, and sweet, and she seems to genuinely like kids.

Small Complaints

- It’s so stinking short! As a result it really felt rushed. Only just over 200 Kindle pages. Why? I mean sure, it’s a super quick read but…so much left unexplained. I’m hoping for more from the next book!
- Pretty predictable. The bad guys were unlikeable and “bad” from the very beginning. The “big secrets” were all your typical small town secrets, nothing truly earthshattering.

3/5 stars overall. I’ll be reading the next book as well, hopefully we get to go more in depth with Amber’s backstory!

Review is posted on GR and will be at the link below on 24 September 2019.

Pawsitively Poisonous by Melissa Erin Jackson is the 1st book in Witch of Edgehill series, and my first book by this author. This book was a fun paranormal book, full of witchy goodness. Amber Blackwood is a witch who lives in Edgehill, Oregon. Amber is determined to keep her identity of being a witch a secret. When Amber's friend is found dead, with Amber's tonic in her hands, the mystery begins. I highly recommend this book for paranormal fans.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

While it's not groundbreaking in any way, it's entertaining and nicely paced. If you're looking for an easier and pleasant read, it'll give you what you're looking for. If you want complexity (in characters and plot) look elsewhere.

What an amazing start to a very promising series! I loved the main character and fell in love with her life and the town itself. I can’t wait to read more in this series.

This is book 1 in the new paranormal witch series, Witch of Edgehill. Amber runs a curiosity shop in Oregon and makes magical toys to use her excess magic. The town police chief thinks something is strange about her and keeps an eye open, especially since his young son loves to visit Amber and buy her toys. Amber's friend, Melanie is found dead with a vile of headache cure given to her by Amber and the police are convinced she is the murderer. Now she must find the killer to clear her name and remain a business owner in town. Good story. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I thought this book was mainly ok. Some characters seemed a little slapped together. I feel like the main character should be more devastated that her best friend was killed. I was also confused that she ... didn’t seem to know he late best friend all that well. I question why no one is like freaking out over her toys that don’t seem to work on anything we are used to. I did like the setting of a cat friendly town, although that didn’t really play into the story other than names of streets and businesses.
