In One Little Secret, three neighboring couples decide to rent a beach house for a vacation while their kids are away at summer camp. When one of the six is found dead on the beach, Gabby Watkins, the town detective sets out to find the murderer. The title is One Little Secret but there’s definitely more than just one secret coming to light. I enjoyed reading this book it was a suspenseful read but I just didn’t connect with it. I think there was a lot at play with 6 main characters. It was middle of the road for me. Not fantastic but definitely not horrible either. As for the mystery of whodunnit, the author has you suspect everyone at some point, then in the end circles back to one them as the killer again for a completely different reason. So in that regards I never did suspect this killer for this motive. I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a different take on a domestic thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the advanced e-copy.
Thank you to Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read this unputdownable book. It started off slow and I was wondering when it would pick up. And then just like that, I was hooked and stayed up late one night finishing it. The way Holahan twists this tale while keeping everyone’s story lines intertwined is just so good. The character development and the way the story line is woven is so well done. I didn’t even see the end coming until just as it was starting. Definitely will recommend this one to anyone looking for a well developed thriller.
I did enjoy this book well enough and the mystery did keep me guessing, but the characters kinda flowed together and I kept getting confused who was who’s husband etc. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters so this was just an ok book for me. Thank you publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
One Little Secret by Cate Holahan gets 4 stars from me! If you're looking for a thriller wrapped up in a few love triangles, this is your book!
A few neighbors drop their kids off at camp and rent an expensive beach house to unwind. The book is called One Little Secret but holy cow, there are more secrets than you can count by the time you get to the middle of this book. Such and such is sleeping with whatsername and marriages that look, "normal," on the outside crumble at the beach on the FIRST NIGHT!
I would have given this book 5 stars but I struggled with remembering who was married to whom and which kids were from which couples. Additionally, the book dragged just a bit for me in the middle. A few of the parts were predictable. However, like only a seasoned writer could do, the ending was NOT predictable.
This is the first book I've read by Cate Holahan. It looks like she has a few more interesting looking thrillers. After reading this one, I'd definitely pick up one of her other books. She knows how to appeal to strong female readers, and her characters in One Little Secret are believable, easy to relate to, and you'll feel like the way the book played out, it could easily happen in any neighborhood.
I was provided One Little Secret in exchange for providing honest feedback. Thank you @Netgalley and @meryl_moss. I enjoyed this one, and can still feel the spray of the ocean on that jetty where Rachel died. Well-written, hard to put down, and page after page I caught myself reading with wide eyes! #thrillerreview #bookreview #netgalley #onelittlesecret @cateholahan #sendmemorebooks #booklover #4stars #loveareviewer #justfinishedreading
Thank you Netgalley for this book in exchange for an honest review. I thought this story was a bit “Gone Girl” with the titles for the chapters. I thought the story kept my interest until the end although I did suspect the true killer midway through the book. The characters were not very likable with the exception of Gabby Watkins. The three couples all had there faults and I didn’t really believe that they would have gone on vacation together since they really didn’t seem to like each other very much. Despite this I still enjoyed the story.
This was a really good dark thriller. I liked the multiple points of view and I really liked how each character left me wondering. Some deep topics are covered and they are done quite well. I would totally recommend this book!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books, and Cate Holahan for the opportunity to read this domestic thriller. 4 stars - kept me intrigued until the end.
Three neighborhood couples decide to rent a beach house for a much-needed week's vacation away from their kids and busy lives. Susan organized the vacation to get her husband, Nadal, away from his tech start up and spend some time with her. Louis and Jenny, both doctors, bring their secrets along with them, as do Ben, a stay-at-home dad and his lawyer wife, Rachel. Lots of alcohol loosens inhibitions and accusations are thrown about infidelity. One of the women storms off and is found dead the next day. Detective Gabby Watkins is investigating the possibility of a date rape when she is called to work on the murder investigation.
For some reason, I kept getting confused in the beginning about which spouse belonged to the other, but I eventually got the relationships cemented in my brain. Besides being a good thriller, lots to think about here with some hot button topics as well as our responsibility to others in our lives for what we witness.
One Little Secret is a very well-written book though often difficult to read because of the serious topics, including <spoiler> rape and domestic violence. </spoiler> I recommend it to fans of psychological suspense.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC! The opinions in this review are honest and my own. #psychologicalsuspense #thriller
This book was very interesting and it definetly held my interest.
We get into the story very quickly which I liked and the mystery kept me guessing.
I would recommend this book for a creepy beach read.
Three couples all neighbours all decide to vacation together in a rented house. Beach front, wine no kids. Sounds like bliss. What could go wrong?
Quite quickly it appears they all have secrets. The following morning one is found dead and they all blame each other.
I liked this book a lot - but I did get confused who was who e.g who belonged to which couple.
Easy to read I read it quickly and liked the characters and the motivation for each of them to have committed the murder.
The story goes back and forth from past to current day and holds my attention until the very end.
Perfect book for a television show - similar to Big little lies - I will be reading note of Cate Holahan in the future.

I flew through this book and I absolutely loved it! This story is told from three POVs where all of their stories are woven together. I really enjoyed how the chapters were divided into “day of” and “day after” portions.
This book is essentially about three couples that take a mini vacation to a house on the beach and then someone winds up dead. I found all of the POV characters both compelling and relatable. I did find Gabby to be a bit frustrating of a character sometimes, but it didn’t impact the overall reading experience. I found myself wanting to follow these characters and learn more about them while also being intrigued about the murder. In my opinion, the ‘plot twist’ as all thrillers have, was done really well. The plot was intricate without being too convoluted and the story was told masterfully.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it!
Three couples who are all neighbors go on an adults only vacation while all of their kids are at camp and one of them is murdered the first night of the vacation. It was easy to distinguish who was who once all of the couples were introduced. I however didn't feel a connection or didn't particularly like any of these characters, maybe because there was very little back story to each of them. The first majority of the book really jumps back and forth between the day of the murder and the day after the murder. It took a bit to figure out who the murderer was and you really do keep second guessing your choice until the end. Overall it was a quick read and I think it's worth adding to your beach or vacation reading list.

One Little Secret was an okay novel,it did not blow me away in any way. The 6 main characters were distinguishable enough, but I found myself not caring about them at all. The mystery part turned to be okay as well, but I had the same problem again: I just didn't care who did it and why. And that is not a good thing for a mystery novel. Mysteries are supposed to keep the reader on the edge of their seats and I found myself just bored with this one. I don't really have any problems with this book other than that it was a standard generic mystery with nothing that would make it stand out.

Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! This book was really fun and fast paced! It takes place in the Hamptons and features three couples escaping for the week while their children are at camp. One of them quickly ends up dead on the beach and the plot takes off. There were a lot of twists and turns and I was surprised by the killer! My only gripe with this book was that I didn't feel enough of a connection with any of the characters. Overall, this makes for a great beach read and I would read more from this author!
I want to thank the Publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Three couples decide to go on a vacation and one of them ends up dead. The mystery was very well handled by the author. I couldn't guess the actual killer up until the epilogue.
One thing that I didn't like was the name dropping in this book. We are told so many names and who is who in the first couple of chapters, so it was very difficult for me to distinguish who was whose husband, especially I got the most confused between Ben and Nadal. The case we see in first chapter also made some things confusing in the start. I know it all kind of ties up in the end but I felt like I was reading two different books when the author started introducing these couples.
Also, I think we didn't really got to get sucked into these characters lives because they just arrived at their vacation spot and they had all these fights and next day the dead body was found. I feel like the author should have created more connection between them and between us and the characters as well, I didn't feel much for the characters.
All in all, I think it is a good book and a one time read.
Day by day life gets overwhelming and we all need a few days off.
Three couples, a lot of secrets told after many alcohol involved and a dead body found in the morning.
A crime scene in Hamptons and a detective that will do whatever it takes to find out all the truths and the real killer.
A fast paced story, good written book and interesting characters.
This is a fairly fast paced novel that is set in the Hamptons. Three couples go to the beach to enjoy adult time after they send their kids to camp. Unfortunately it quickly goes south and one of them ends up dead on the beach. Who is it? Was it an accident? Was it murder?
This was a super quick read that was easy to devour quickly. While many of the twists were easily seen there was a few that I didn't expect.
Overall it was an enjoyable but predictable read. Is it weird that I can't really figure out what the "one little secret" in this book is? There's a lot of secrets it seems, not just one.
Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for a copy of the eARC novel in exchange for my honest review.
After dropping off their kids at summer camp 3 couples decide on some adult time. They rent a beautiful house on a private beach, expecting nothing but wine, dinners and sunsets. But when Rachel is found dead on the beach town detective Gabby Watkins must wade through all the lies and deceptions to get to the truth of what really happened to Rachel, and of the 5 people remaining is responsible.
Told from alternating perspective this novel is a great rollercoaster ride. It kept me engrossed and entertained throughout.

Alcohol and secrets never go well together. This is a domestic thriller about three couples that share a beach rental in the Hamptons. Initially, it was difficult to track the individuals and which spouse they belonged to 😝. Once I was able to keep the characters/couples straight, the story became easier to follow.
Tension built as the suspects were slowly narrowed, but I didn’t feel drawn to any character. I enjoyed the writing, so I’m chalking this “ok-but-not-great” read up to domestic thriller overload.
Ben / Rachel - Ben is a stay-at-home father and Rachel is the breadwinner. A ruthless lawyer that is painted as an ambulance chaser.
Louis / Jenny - They went to medical school together. Louis became an ER doctor, while Jenny’s career took a more successful turn.
Nadal / Susan - Nadal’s firm designed a tech company, “Doc2Go”. A workaholic, who passed on his parental duties to his wife. Susan is raising their twin boys after giving up her career.
This well-needed mini vacation sounded heavenly. Just what the doctor ordered...the beach, sun, good food, great booze and, most of all, no kids. But tension builds as secrets surface and we find out someone is willing to do anything to keep their secret buried. The suspects are slowly narrowed and we find out who the killer is....or do we?

My approval didn’t come until after the publication date, so my review is late, but I was excited to get a copy of this one. My first book by this author was enough to add her previous work to my TBR list!

A tense, twisty and compelling thriller, this one had me staying up until the early hours. Despite finding it difficult to get into the book, owing to the number of characters, I found this book to be very hard to put down. My only other grouse is that this book is about many explosive secrets - secrets that can kill, so "One Little" Secret is probably not the most suitable title.
The glass beach house was supposed to be the getaway that Susan needed. Eager to help her transplanted family set down roots in their new town—and desperate for some kid-free conversation—she invites her new neighbors to join in on a week-long sublet with her and her workaholic husband.
Over the course of the first evening, liquor loosens inhibitions and lips. The three couples begin picking up on the others' marital tensions and work frustrations, as well as revealing their own. But someone says too much. And the next morning one of the women is discovered dead on the private beach.
Town detective Gabby Watkins must figure out who permanently silenced the deceased. As she investigates, she learns that everyone in the glass house was hiding something that could tie them to the murder, and that the biggest secrets of all are often in plain sight for anyone willing to look.
I was initially drawn to the book because I found the cover so alluring! Once I started, the characters were too many to keep track of, hence I found myself going slower, taking time to match the people to their spouses, then to their children...ughh! However, this is also what made the book so twisted. Every interaction between the spouses and the others at the house made for very tense reading. I liked the basic plotline in this book as well as the characters. Not that all were likable!! Detective Gabby Watkins is investigating one incident when she's called in to take over the murder at the beach. I liked that there were 2 "sub-plots" going although one considerably overshadowed the other. I had hoped for something more on the Mariel case, but that was shut down a bit abruptly in the end. I would have liked to see it to a more satisfying end. The chapters are paced well, so I could finish this book in one sitting(well, also because the thrill was so high!). In all, I liked this one; the twists are what kept me going!
Thank You, NetGalley, Crooke Lane Books and Cate Hollohan for an arc!
