Unfortunately got archived before I could read it. It seems it was a good read though! I tried to find it physical but couldn't.
I thought this was a fun first volume in a graphic novel series. I particularly enjoyed the combination of sports and fitting in at a new school. The relationships - friendship and romantic were well developed and it will be fun to see where the series goes next.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc of this graphic novel.
There are now 8 volumes out I believe, I haven't continued on with the series.
This graphic novel is really well done, the art is nice, the story is good and it is very inclusive which is also really great. I liked all the characters and I had an okay times while reading it. I do find that I have a harder time connecting to the characters in graphic novels. I think if I were to continue on with the series I would enjoy it more, but I didn't have a strong drive to continue reading after I finished the first one.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. However, I don't feel like enough happened in this first volume; though I do plan to pick up the next volume because I'm desperate to know what's going to happen next. I really liked the art style, as it felt very easy to get used to and follow along with. The humor was great, the friendships were interesting I just need more to happen!
I wasn't able to read this one bc I couldn't get the format to work :( I'm really interested in the author's work so I will try to get a copy elsewhere! Thank you for the chance tho!
Ending the review off with a happy review! Avant-Guards is definitely one of my favourite graphic novels now and I’m wanting to read the other issues! I loved every aspect of this and enjoyed every minute I spent reading it.
The characters were so much fun and I wanted to read it again and again to spend more time with the characters. Or just have a cute animated series that’s just them being all cute and having fun team times. They all had such fun personalities and I just loved them all.
Olivia is adorable and I can definitely relate to her. While I could possibly count her as my favourite, the entire team are all my favourites. If you’re looking for a cast you could probably all love, then this is the book for you!
Adorable, diverse graphic novel centered on a newly-forming basketball team at an arts high school. Suspect fans of Fence won't want to miss this sports f/f romance that actually has plot to go with the cuteness.
This was overall one cute graphic novel/comic. I loved the art style. I also found the exploration of frienship and identity really wholesome and I would possibly be interested in checking outthe rest of the series.
An amazing volume one where we can see how it starts and meet the cast!
The art is cute, and we can see the plot will be just as cute and amazing if keeps going like this.
Basketball isn't much of my sport, but volley wasn't as well, and look where we are now with the addiction to Haikyuu. Its GN's like this that have us try out new things!
Loved the cast of characters, Definitely bought the comic. This is a fun read and would recommend picking it up in between fantasy reads.
This was a quick and exciting read. I love how the characters interacted with each other through out the story,
This was such a fun start to a new series! Thos volume follows Charlie, who has just started a new college and gets talked into joining the all-women basketball team.
I love how diverse this story is and there are so many interesting, confident women. It was wonderful to see lots of queer characters and characters with all different body types playing sports. There's also a budding romance that I got very invested in, so I can't wait to see how that develops. The art style is charismatic and bright, and I'm looking forward to the next volume.
This gives me Fence vibes which is one of my favorite series... so I did definitely enjoy this. Obviously this is only the first volume so we are just meeting everyone and setting up the next volume, but it overall caught my attention and kept it. I plan to continue the series! I also was a basketball player when I was younger so it's kinda cool to see that in print!!
This graphic novel was adorable. The biggest issue I had with this collection is that there is not as much plot as I would have liked. This being a continuous comic series, the story may lend itself a bit better to binging the whole thing than reading volume by volume. However, the characters was truly the make-or-break aspect of this book. The diversity is incredible, but even with the limited page count, they each had a unique and well thought out characterization that I know will grow over the course of the different volumes. The art style is styled and colored well and helps translate the vibrancy of the world well. I will have to reread this before I pick up volume 2, but I sure will pick up the following volumes whenever I can.
This was such a fun read! I highly enjoyed the characters and the ending is just killing me! I need more now!
This was a fun read that I will be recommending for patrons that enjoy contemporary as well as fantasy graphic novels. I loved the colors used in this novel. The book was fun but still had some great moments that I feel are relatable.
I was curious to read something from Carly Usdin and I liked very much The Avant-Guards (It's a sport graphic novel so fun!) and I pretend to read more of her projects.
After reading Heavy Vynil Vol. 1 (the other comic by the same author) I knew I wanted to read this one as well! Liked it just as much and it was enough to make me want to continue this series.
This was a cute graphic novel. The art was stunning but I felt the story was lacking. Its all good thought because this was a unique read.
I was provided an e-arc from netgalley to read and review
I unfortunately missed the opportunity to read
