Kendra cuts her arm. She remembers being sexually abused years ago, but doesn’t remember WHO did it. .she also remembers threats made if she told what happened.
This book has several trigger warnings. Before having a teenager read it, I recommend you read it first.
The author herself has cut her self, in fact it is her arm pictured on the cover.
Review posted on www.bookshelfbombshells.com in 2012. Unfortunately, I did not link to the review at the time and now it is 8 years later. This was a perfectly serviceable YA novel that would make a good icebreaker for a parent who needs to talk to their child about self harm. There is also a LGBTQA+ secondary plotline that was also pretty well developed in a way that you don't see much in YA.
I was extremely disappointed, I couldn’t even really read the book, sort of had to skim to the end. The writing was choppy and I had a hard time liking or connecting with the protagonist. The abuser felt like the predictable choice to the story, and while dealing with such a difficult topic, I found the author sort of rushed the ending and wrapped it up too nicely to feel realistic. Not what I was expecting, and maybe its in part because I have not experienced similar trauma, but this book was not for me
