It took a little while to get into the book but once I did, I really enjoyed it. I wished we could have seen a little more interaction with Georgina and Lucas though.

I absolutely ADORED this book!! Georgina is a writer, or trying to be, she's broke and a mess, but has a great sense of humor and a great group of friends. She loses her job at a terrible Italian restaurant and is down on her luck, until she gets a job at a bar. Only the bar is owned by Lucas, a boy whose heart she broke in high school. We get a taste of what their high school relationship was like in the Prologue and how Georgina was smitten with the popular crowd and we can only assume that when she had the opportunity with the popular bad boy, she took it.

I love Lucas and I love Georgina. This book is funny with just the right amount of sexual tension. The characters are well-developed and relatable. The storyline is fresh and different. This is a must-read for rom-com fans!

This title was fine. Not groundbreaking by any means, but certainly entertaining. Very, very Bridget Jones.

The first chapter was a bit odd. Georgina's vocabulary felt overworked and then almost non-existent in the following chapters.

This book tackled some heavy, yet very timely, issues. It featured the author's usual funny repartee. It was enjoyable, but more dramatic than I was expecting.

So "Don't You Forget About Me" was wonderful. I have never read McFarlane before, but now I want to read all of her books. This book had so much heart and I loved Georgina (the main character) and her friends Jo, Clem, and Rav. I also laughed a lot and even teared up when you find out why Georgina's life derailed when she was a teen and again a few months later. There's not any love scenes in this one, but you definitely get chemistry for days between Georgina and her love interest. Now if we can a sequel following Clem, Rav, or Jo I will be thrilled.

"Don't You Forget About Me" follows 30 something Georgina. Georgina is a waitress at possibly the worst restaurant in England. Seriously, I maybe laughed a few times when Georgina recounts the mess that went on in the kitchen. When a restaurant critic starts to make a fuss about his congealed carbonara the chef blames Georgina and fires her. Georgina goes to her boyfriend's place and finds him having sex with someone else. So yeah, we're off and running. McFarlane follows Georgina who is trying to do something with her writing (yeah she hasn't written anything yet) and who ends up finding a new job at a pub. Only problem is that one of the owners of the place is someone that Georgina has wondered about for ages, the boy she was in love with, Lucas McCarthy.

Georgina is definitely someone you want to root for. Her whole family sounds like a mess, but once you get some reveals going on you find out what was going on with all of the parties (her mom and sister) and I just ended up liking everyone more. That is one thing I want to keep emphasizing with this book, not everything is pushed out in the open. McFarlane lets the character of Georgina tell us things in her own way. We find out that her relationship with her jerk of an ex wasn't as awesome as she thought it was. And with that she starts to reveal how she first met Lucas and what happened between them.

The secondary characters like Lucas, Clem, and Rav were great. Lucas is an engima at first, but once again we find out what has happened to him since school. Rav and Clem were hilarious. I loved the friendship between the three friends and Georgina. They all got each other and supported one another.

The writing was great. The stories that Georgina tells are hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking. Her voice throughout this book was strong. The flow was great as well.

The book takes place in London though we mainly have the bar that Lucas owns, Georgina's apartment, and her sister's place as the main settings in this book.

The ending does a six months later epilogue that I was very pleased with. Seriously though, follow up with Clem or Rav.

A lovely story about finding your truth & strength. First love & high school drama can lead to misunderstandings which can have huge impacts on your life. I love to see strong women finding their voices & telling their story!!

Written by Mhairi McFarlane, Don’t You Forget About Me is a novel set in a small English town and follows Georgina as she looses her dead beat job, finds her boyfriend in bed with another woman, and has the true love of her life walk back in only to not remember her at all.

THIS IS NOT A STORY FOR CHILDREN

There, that disclaimer is out of the way.

While I enjoyed the story, and loved Lucas the ex, the writing is what set this back for me. The first chapter was terrible and confusing. After that, it got much better and by the end was great, but the first chapter.

The characters were interesting and the main characters had a lot of depth and SO MUCH GROWTH. While this is a romance, it is really more about the growth of the main characters than it is them falling in love. The love bit is really only at the very end.

Georgina is a very real character that I think a lot of people can relate to. She knew what she wanted at one point, but after being broken she just… never really learned how to put her self back together. And couldn’t admit that she had been broken.

The plot is the other strong point for this novel. The writing might not be great, but it has strong characters and a strong plot.

This isn’t a novel for die-hard romance novels; this is a novel for someone who wants a novel about love, forgiveness, and what it really means to move on, find yourself, and find your people.

Georgina is a fabulous character full of determination. She starts off in a terrible job with an awful boyfriend but quickly looses those through some humorous twists and turns. I loved this story because she grew so much from start to end and overcame trauma to move forward. A beautiful story that had comedic and cringe worthy scenes.

This book was not what I had expected going in, but I loved what it turned out to be! This was an amazing story and I loved reading about Georgina and seeing inside of her head. She was complex and a very thought out character and she seemed like she could be a real person. I definitely recommend this one!!

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet love story full of losses and redemption. It would make a great romcom film.

I wanted to love this book but it wasn’t for me. The sarcastic tone was fun at first, but felt forced after a while. It pulled me from the setting too often and distracted from the characters and plot.

Ahhhhhh where to begin? This book is five stars and more, easily one of my favorite rom-coms of the year. Heart-warming, sweet, fun, and perfectly written. I have been waiting to read this book ever since I laid eyes on the description, and the wait 100% paid off. Let me start by whispering a suggestion to you…could this be the modern-day riff on Jane Austen’s Persuasion that we’ve all been looking for? I’ll leave that up to you, dear reader.

I absolutely adored the characters in this book, particularly the main character, Georgina Horspool. She’s a warm, big-hearted, quirky, weird, mess of a thirty-year-old woman who is perfectly happy with her series of waitressing and bartending jobs and her gaggle of three insane friends. Instead of saying she’s in a very slow motion tailspin, her sister tells her, “You’re more like a Roomba, Gog, bumping into walls, pinging back and carrying on.” Take one of my favorite Georgina quotes, an observation about her high-strung sister:

“Inside, Esther is fond of the sort of uplifting wall art that says things like LIVE LOVE LAUGH. It’s weird, because she’s the world’s least whimsical person. It always has a whiff of the ‘floggings will continue until morale improves’ to me. I might get her one saying LAUGH DAMN YOU.”

The book essentially opens with her getting fired from her waitressing job at the worst restaurant in town, then going to her boyfriend’s apartment to find him sleeping with another woman. In a last minute coup de grace, Georgina’s brother-in-law gets her a gig bartending at a bar owned by two brothers, one of whom is Georgina’s sweet, shy, loner sixth form boyfriend. He’s a stunning, brooding, tall drink of water now, but - he doesn’t remember her.

Flash to her gaslighting, borderline stalker boyfriend following her around town and trying to ruin her life, antics with her friends, a pitiful get-your-life-together intervention from her mom’s awful new husband, and more. Think Bridget Jones’ Diary-esque antics, but she’s a bit more together than Bridget Jones, the conflicts in this book are real and infuriating, and the romance has a different Austenesque spin.

Georgina is an amazing protagonist who you root for every time - she’s strong and resilient, and most importantly: she stands up for herself. There are many moments in this book that will anger you, but an equal number of moments where you will fist-pump and say, “Fuck yeah, George!” The book is primarily about her development as a character and an individual, with the romance acting as a heavy side dish.

This was my first read from Mhairi MacFarlane and if this is how all of her books read, it certainly won’t be my last. I’m slightly upset with myself for devouring this so quickly. Big thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for an early copy of the book before its US release in September 2019!

Thank you to NetGalley, Mhairi McFarlane and HarperCollins for an Arc of don't you forget about me. First this cover is adorable and I already knew I would love this book just by looking at it and second I am a huge Mhairi McFarlane fan and her books never disappoint.
Georgina is down in her luck. The same day she gets fired from the restaurant she works at she also comes home to find her boyfriend in bed with someone else. She gets a job as a barmaid in a newly opened pub that turns out to be run by the boy she fell in love with back at school. She's sees Lucas has really grown up now owning his own business and he has a dog. Seeing him after all of these years brings up a secret from her past that happened on the last day of school. A secret that has chased her all of these years...
This book is both a second chance romance and about a girl fighting for herself and discovering who she really is. She has had a hard time since school and has let it all drag her down and she is not on the path she wants to be on but with the help of her amazing friends she starts to pick up the pieces. I loved this book because of the romance but also because Georgie is a strong woman who picks herself back up. Highly recommend this one.

For the longest time, I avoided romance books like this one- "contemporary" romance- especially ones that star slightly older women reminiscing about relationships in high school. This theme comes up so often and feels so overdone, that I thought it just wouldn't be that interesting to read about. Getting past the "I won't like this"-- I've read through a few books in this genre lately... and am having such a great time with it!

"Don't You Forget About Me" felt like a good dream. One of those books that when you finish reading, you can't help but think back to your own awful... and maybe at times good high school memories ;). The characters were fun, the banter was witty, and the writing was amazing! For the first time in probably ever, I found myself bookmarking pages with insightful comments that felt really on-point about life and relationships. 7 bookmarks people! Coming from someone who never bookmarks kindle or fiction books! This book is on my "to purchase" list when it is published :).

I had never heard of Mhairi McFarlane before this book, but I currently have two tabs open for her on my browser. One at Goodreads checking out her stuff, and one at Amazon so I can get started reading more from her quickly. Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins Publishers for providing me with an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

Georgina has had a string of jobs that often end in disaster, or at least in unemployment. Somehow, she finds herself in situations where she is blamed for things that aren't really her fault. She is offered a job that seems like a perfect fit only to find that she has history with the co-owner of the bar. She is relieved to find that he doesn't remember their long-ago relationship - or does he? McFarlane weaves together a story that makes us care about Georgina and her travails and is truly laugh out loud funny. I'll be looking for more books by McFarlane!

***Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

This book was so much more than I originally thought it would be. It was about first loves, tragedy and grief, friendship, self-esteem, and finding happiness in this crazy world.

Don't You Forget About Me is more chicklit than romance in my opinion. Georgian is seriously unlucky and down at an age when she should be building her life up. Some things do start to turn her way and maybe begin turning her luck around. I like the characterization of Georgian as a person with some growing up to do, even though she's in that thirtyish should already be grown place in her life. It's taken her longer than average to figure out her life, but she is making progress toward positive change. I wasn't interested in the romance aspect of the story. I found her individual story more compelling because so many of us have made bad decisions and ended up nowhere. Georgian is proof that no-one is hopeless, but you have to do the work. She's an inspiring character with charm and wit. I enjoyed this story and hope others will as well. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fresh, funny, and delightfully feminist take on romance, and I loved every moment of it. I found myself chuckling out loud and getting teary-eyed as Georgina falls in love with herself as much as with the love interest

Loved Mhairi McFarlane's Don't You Forget About Me! This story is a romantic comedy with a heart and a soul. I loved all of the characters and really cared about them, especially Georgina and Lucas. Wonderful and swoony!

I laughed at the beginning and applauded when Gina found her voice during her Shame speeches. She found her self worth and in return became a person worthy of love. A great book about finding your other half that makes you better.
