I was so excited to get this and man this was an amazing follow up to book two and now I need the third one like now please!! The cliffhanger in this one about killed me!!! Although parts of this one had the middle book feel, for the most part it was overall a very great story. I loved how it all blended and the characters were fabulous. This is one of those series that you start and you want to reread the book and start the next one all at the same time!! When this series is over I can not tell you how much I can't wait to see what Wolf does next!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and Sara Wolf for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review of Find Me Their Bones. My thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.

*If you haven’t read “Bring Me Their Hearts”, the first of the series, beware of spoilers below.

“Find Me Their Bones” picks up immediately from where the first book ends. Princess Varia is alive, Zera went full Heartless on Gavik’s men but only because they were going to kill Prince Lucien. Now that everyone knows that Zera is a Heartless, they are afraid of her. They feel betrayed knowing that she was only getting close to Lucien for his heart. Varia falls back into her role of heir apparent but is keeping a secret from her family. She is a witch and now she is Zera’s witch. She tricked Zera into revealing her witch’s name and now Varia controls Zera’s heart. She has a special mission that only Zera can perform. Varia has a mission. She wants to be able to control both her people and the witches. And she can’t do it without an army of her own.

Similar to the first book, I really enjoyed the world that Wolf has created as well as the story. There are new twists, new characters and lots of fantasy elements that made this second book exciting and interesting. The problem that I had in the first book is even more pronounced in this story and that is the relationship between Lucien and Zera. At least in the first book, they were falling in love with each other. This book is entirely one dimensional and stereotypical. Lucien’s feelings are hurt so he is mad at Zera. Zera feels bad and thinks Lucien is better off without her so she continues the ruse of pretending to not like him.

I can’t take the suffering in silence. The martyrdom. She will sacrifice her happiness for Lucien. She pushes all of her friends away with the “It’s best for everyone if they don’t like me”. From beginning to end this is the underlying element. It is this overriding message that has been a disservice to girls and women. Whether it is pre-teens, teenage girls, or women that read this, this is not a sentiment that women should aspire to imitate. This is the very thing we have been fighting against. With so many better, more modern female characters being written, I would have been happier without this all too familiar behavior. Plus it made my blood boil the whole time.

There is a third planned in the series and I will be reading it. I can overlook the female issue because I’m a grown-ass woman. Although I’m pretty sure how it is going to end, it is how Wolf gets there that will make it interesting.

I forgot how much I loved the main character Zeras snarky wit and funny comebacks. She has a sharp mind and a determination to match. Im happy that despite having to obey her witches every command it still felt like she had some agency. She didn't let it deter her from working towards her goal. There were many moments I found her super relatable, but I could have done without her guilt over killing people who deserved it. I do understand the guilt and inability to trust was multiplied due to the Heartless hunger preying on her insecurities. I was relieved that her inner struggle with the hungers voice didn't take over the story. There was an inconsistency with Zera playing off some of her actions as self sacrificing one moment and then selfish the next.

Zera pretending not to care about her friends and love interest was disapointing. One of my favorite parts of the first book was the friendships and romance so having her constantly push them away was a big reason why I enjoyed the last novel more than this sequel. Even though Prince Lucien is being distant he kept proving over and over again how much he cared and it was just so heartwarming. I liked how Prince Luciens bodyguard cut through Zeras I don't care persona. He's very observant which makes him great at his job. Heartless terrify Zeras friend Fione so it was very satisfying to see her conquer that fear so she could talk with Zera. Fione has a cute sapphic romance that I hope gets a happy ending in the next book. I also enjoyed the new characters we were introduced to.

I loved the world building with its detailed history and fantastical creatures. Two magical races that really stood out to me were the Celeons, a race similar to felines and lizards mixed together who were given sentience after a spell went awry, and the old dragon type race called the Valkerax. With the main character being a Heartless we get to see the true price of immortality. On top of having to obey their witch, the loss of their hearts means the loss of their memories and that's when the hunger drills its way in, pushing the Heartless to be as vicious as possible. Since witches can make anyone into a Heartless and then give them back their heart to make them human again they could pretty much eliminate death and I think that would be way more believable if there was a limit on the amount of Heartless a witch can create.

The plot focuses on Zera trying to get her heart back by fulfilling a deal she made with her witch, but teaching a Valkerax to fight the magical compulsion its race has been put under is easier said then done. That part of the plot did get a little repetitive, but the impending war between the humans and the witches added a sense of urgency that kept me engaged. Despite Zera being immortal and unable to die, the mystery and danger surrounding the magical tree and the new villain gave this story some high stakes. I also loved seeing the old villain put in his place. Just like first book this had some great twists and an intense ending. I seriously cant wait to get my hands on the next installment. I would totally recommend this series if you enjoy a smart mouth determined female protagonist and awesome world building.

I was expecting a lot of this book when I opened it. I absolutely loved Bring Me Their Hearts last year, and I was so curious to find out what would happen to the characters, and overall to find out where the author wanted to bring us.
In the end, I must say that I was a little disappointed (but just a little). I felt like the plot was just dragged on for no other reason than to just fill the pages and a lot of the characters' actions frustrated me. BUT this book did manage to surprise me, and more than once, which raised the bar a little.

I was actually really surprised by the end of the book, as I thought the series was a duology, when it actually is a trilogy (at least I think so, but there's going to be at least another book in the series).

So even though I liked Bring Me Their Hearts more, I am still really excited about what's to come for the characters, and can't wait to get my hands on the third book when it comes out.

I love this series!

It's the perfect blend of YA Fantasy that will just suck you in leaving you amongst the heartless.. It's a very entertaining read and absolutely devoured it.

I gave this one 5 out of 5 stars (just like Book 1) and recommend this one for fantasy lovers of any age!

It does end with a cliffhanger, so prepare yourself! And please note that you do need to read the series in order.

After the cliffhanger of the first book it was extremely easy to fall right back into this world and Zera’s personal hemisphere of backstabbing and betrayal. The story starts right where the previous one left off but what struck me right away was how different the tone of this book felt. What made Bring Me Their Hearts so highly entertaining was the humor laced through every paragraph, Zera’s delightful sass as she recounted the events of her life a most compelling argument to keep turning the pages at rapid speed. That I’m-hurting-and-possibly-dying-but-let’s-crack-a-joke-anyway is less present here. Especially in the beginning

Because the story is different. The balance has shifted. Zera is lost and struggling to find herself, closing herself off from the people she has come to care about to avoid more pain. And in that regard Find Me Their Bones struggles a bit of middle book syndrome. I felt Zera’s internal struggle, understood it completely. But the internal monologue started feeling repetitive real fast, the same arguments to distrust her friends playing through her head over and over to the point where it lost a lot of credibility.

Maybe there wasn’t enough plot to back it up. Although the book never bored me, I felt like there was too much filler stuff. And I like fillers, I do, I like the opportunity to get to know characters in a different light, but the main plot picked up too slowly. It could have been stronger, more elaborate, more detailed. This book is a set-up for bigger things to come and I’m thrilled to find out what they are but in the mean time I wish there had been more.

More of Lucien and Zera as well. They had amazing chemistry in the first book, the kind of spark that makes you rush through a story. Their scenes were fewer now and a lot less friendly, which of course made perfect sense after everything that happened, but I will always want more of their delightful banter. What bothered me however, is the time frame. They’ve only known each other for two weeks, which is repeated over and over. It doesn’t make sense for these characters to behave the way they do over the course of just a couple of weeks (days?). I’m sorry but it doesn’t.

And yet I might still have given this book four stars. For the most part I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s well-written, the words flow easy and draw you right in. Except I couldn’t stand Princess Varia and it was really hard to get over that since she’s in a lot of scenes. What a manipulative, entitled *****. I didn’t feel her struggle, I couldn’t rally behind her cause to save the world of war and destruction and I sure as hell couldn’t get on board with the way she treated the people around her. But I liked sidekick Yorl, so there’s at least that.

The book doesn’t drag, is entertaining and once again ends in a cliffhanger that turns you real frustrated when you start counting the months until the release of the next book. I’m definitely going to read the next installment, I care about this story and these characters enough to follow them on the rest of their journey. But if Varia could disappear that would be great, thanks.

Love, loyalty and sacrifice!
Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for the opportunity to read and review Find Me Their Bones by Sara Wolf!
The second book in this trilogy feels much calmer than the first. I want to know more about Varia and how she came into her position and knowledge at this point in her life. More opens up about Lucien and l’m hoping the third book will address my questions and other readers’ questions. Yori and Malachite are both interesting and entertaining and Zera still has the sense of humor that I enjoy. The suspense and danger didn’t seem as intense but the witch fire scene built up the action and we get to see vulnerability in some of the characters. I’m looking forward to the next book and I hope it brings the story and these characters full circle. 4 stars!

I was thrilled to receive the ARC. After reading the first book, I couldn’t wait to dive back into this world.

However, I found the second book to be harder to get into. It started right as the first one left off. Zera is standing by a pile of bodies, the prince isn’t exactly pleased with her and the princess is alive and back. Oh yeah, she’s a witch who just now happens to own Zera’s heart.

They all return to the castle. Zera following the princess closely, as now she has control. The princess leads her into a part of the castle where something horrible lies. A valkerax, a nasty beast that Zera must tame in order to get her heart back. It’s not an easy beast to deal with, nor is she trilled with the plan that the princess has for it.

From there on, the book seems to be slow. It takes longer to get to the point of some things, the pace remains the same for a good chunk of the book, the tone, the action, etc. I just found that there were too many pieces of the book in where it lacked all these things and more in order for me to continue on and really enjoy the book. However, it did get better as the book neared the end.

Over all, I’m hoping the next book will be much better.

Another roller coaster ride!

After the shocking ending from book one I thought I was ready for what was to come with this one. I wasn’t. There was pain and heartache and quite a bit of reconciliation swirling around. And not to mention that explosive ending that will leave you shook and wanting more.

So now we wait.

Aw men, I’m done and now I’ll have to wait for ages to get my hands on book 3. On the one hand, it’s a good thing when you finish a book and feel this hungry for the next one, right? On the other hand, it drives me truly mad because I really don’t have the patience for it haha. Ok, so what did I overall think of this second installment in the series?

Most part of this book gives me a typical ‘middle book syndrome’ vibe, which you often come across when reading trilogies. Nothing wrong with that persé, because it was still such an immensely entertaining read and it was overall a good paced story. But it is palpable though, looking at the story, plot-wise. Don’t get me wrong: the story is definitely so much fun to read, right from the start, seeing it continues right where things were left at the end of book 1, when things were kind of intense haha. In this second installment, there are new things brewing and coming to the surface, story-wise and then there’s also the unfurling/coming to fruition of elements we already read. So still more than enough things going on. And then there’s also this ending, which leaves me yet again aching for the next book, so badly. So see? There’s definitely nothing wrong with a book being a typical second installment in a trilogy. It was not dull or anything like that, at all. But just to stay honest: plot-wise, there’s not always a lot happening for most of the duration of the book, up until the end - which was truly EPIC though. Sara really knows how to end a book with a bang, damn! BE PREPARED hihi!

I loved the expansion of the magical elements that are woven into the story-line; we got more information about the witches and their magic in general, more Heartless (which I thought was such a great concept when I first read Bring me Their Hearts, and reading book 2 now makes it all even more interesting!) and then there’s also the presence of the Valkerax beast, whom we get to meet (and secretly became a fan of). That was such a fantastic addition to the story and I can’t wait to see how and when the beast will make its presence again in the next one.

The writing was as addictive as it was in book 1. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough, even though there’s not always much happening plot-wise. But it’s just so engaging!

Character wise: I love Zera’s character development a lot in this book. I really liked her in the first one and I felt even more connected to her this time around, so I’m really happy about that. I did wish though, that we got to read more POV’s, because some characters still feel a bit flat to me because they aren’t always a lot present because there’s a lot of focus on Zera and her adventure of course, and I’d just want to read more about the minor characters as well haha. But then again; it would also have given aways some surprises too early on, seeing how things developed later on in the story, so I also get why there’s only the one POV - Zera. A bit of a contradiction for me then, how I feel about this haha.

I really liked how engaging the story was to me; how it had me thinking and guessing about story-line and character developments. That, in combination with the addictive writing made for a fast paced and awesome read.

The way this book ends; It sets really high expectations for the third book. I really cannot wait to see how the story is going to continue and then end in the last installment. It promises to be epic. Sara’s writing leaves me wanting more yet again, and I definitely recommend reading these books. I’m a fan of Zera, Lucien and the other characters, the magical elements combined with this fictional world, the progression and expansion of the story and Sara’s writing. I’m a fan! Bring on book 3! Is desperately counting down the days already until the release, even though there’s no release date announced yet, lol.

I was really looking forward to reading this book since I really enjoyed the first one so much however, this time around I found myself drifting away and not anxious to read in a good way, but in a way to stay committed to the series. Zera was still a fabulous heroine for me as a reader she has so much a heart for as heartless goes. Zera really kept me engaged in this story she truly is the heartbeat compared to everyone else. Maybe if the narration was told from everyone's point of view I would had been more invested in where this story was going. I didn't really learn anything new nor was I shocked by the few twists that were presented throughout. I think because nothing really happened until the last ten pages did it breath new life into this story for me. I felt like Sara Wolf was holding back because it is a trilogy so she stretched the story and showed how everyone was dealing with personal conflict yet not showing any real character growth except for Zera. Overall, I liked how everyone is showing how truly heartless they all can be while casting Zera as a monster instead of looking at themselves and how their action have consequences I found intriguing that I am now looking forward to reading the third book.

I had such a good time with this book! I absolutely adored the first book in this series, which ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I was really eager to get started with this book. Before I even got started with this book, I was impressed by the cover art. These covers are just gorgeous and I am a sucker for a good cover. Of course, the most important part is the actual story and I thought that was very well done as well. This was such an entertaining read from beginning to end.

This is the second book in the Bring Me Their Hearts series, which is a series that needs to be read in order. It is going to be almost impossible to talk about this book without some spoilers for the first book so there may be some spoilers within this review. Zera is a Heartless, which means that a witch has her heart and can control her. There are some perks with her condition. She is immortal. She dies but always comes back to life. She heals fast and doesn't age. Of course, the fact that she is under someone else's control negates any benefit.

Zera is given a new task in this book. She must train a valkerax to control its hunger. This isn't going to be an easy task and she is also having to deal with a very changed situation at court. I loved the way that I wasn't quite sure of the motivation of some of the characters. Was anyone really on Zera's side or was she completely on her own? I loved watching Zera navigate each difficult situation thrown at her. She is such a wonderful character with a really big heart even though a witch holds hers.

This book did throw some surprises at me which is never a bad thing. I thought that the feel of this book was a bit different. The first book had quite a bit of romance and while I wouldn't say there is no romance in this book, I did feel that things were much more uncertain. This book does end with a bit of a cliffhanger but it is one that I feel that I can live with, though I am really eager to get my hands on the next installment.

I would recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a wonderful installment in the series that was able to keep me guessing until the very end. I cannot wait to read more of this entertaining series.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Entangled: Teen via NetGalley.

Find Me Their Bones is a great followup to Bring Me Their Hearts! It's an engaging YA fantasy, full of angst, betrayal, monsters, witches, and dark magic. This improves a lot on some of the pacing issues I had with book 1 and while not perfect, is definitely a good time if you like this sort of book.

The story picks up right where the end of Bring Me Their Hearts left off, with a plot reveal that changes everything. I can't say too much without spoilers, but there is a whole lot of teen angst as betrayal separates friends and potential lovers, dark plots unfold, and Zera grapples with who she really is: human or monster? As with book 1, I wasn't particularly surprised by any of the plot twists, but I was happy to go along for the ride. Perfect for fans of CW shows with magic, I would definitely continue on in the series. I received an advance copy of this book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I really liked Find Me Their Bones! I've been looking forward to reading this book, especially with how the first book ended. I really wanted to know what happened.

We learn a lot more about Veria, and I'm glad we did. She had a really interesting story, and it was nice to learn so much more about this character we've only heard about. Getting her backstory was a really good thing for this book, because I felt like things started to fall into place.

Find Me Their Bones picks up right where Bring Me Their Hearts left off. There is no gap in time between the ending of the first book and the beginning of this one, and that made me happy because I was pretty desperate to know what happened. Things definitely changed for Zera and Lucien but there's a lot going on for all the characters.

Zera is still her snarky self, though I loved the moments with Yorl and with the valkerax. I loved the concept of true names. Granted, the idea of true names isn't unique to this book, but I loved how it was used. Names really do have power, and it makes me wonder if it was something specific to this book or if we'll see it again in the next book.

The mythology gets an added dimension in this book, and I loved what it added to Zera's world. There is so much more to this world than I ever thought possible, and I'm glad we saw more of it in this book. I hope the world gets a little bit bigger in the next book, but if the next one is the last one, then I don't know how much more we'll see since things need to get resolved. Still, I feel like what we learn in this book moves the story forward, and I'm definitely interested to see how everything gets wrapped up.

There's a lot of twists and turns and I'm having a hard time talking about this book without giving anything away. I am glad I read it and it was interesting, from start to finish.

My Rating: 4 stars. I really liked Find Me Their Bones, and I can't wait to read the next book!

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf was my favorite book of 2018. It ended in such a way that had me needing the sequel that second I finished it. I had such high expectations for this sequel and it was my most anticipated book of 2019. I feel like this book definitely fell into that middle book slump.

Although I really enjoyed it, the story was just missing something for me. It needed a little something to help move the plot forward it tended to drag a few times. But Wolf has such a way with crafting a unique story, with morally gray characters. The struggle that Zera deals with throughout the story, along with so many moving parts in regards to the upcoming war kept an air of mystery woven between the pages. Wolf had kept me guessing and although I kind of guessed some of it there were more twists that I was not expected. The characters went through a lot, had to make a lot of decisions and learning what is the better of two evils. Zera faced the choice of saving her heart or following her heart. And it was something that felt so relative to the true struggle of life. It that struggle of the fight between your head and your heart.

We definitely got to see more character development and all of them were so full of sass and wit. I was laughing so much at the quick remarks between the characters and how much shade was thrown. Then add in the Valkerax, which was also such a well though out and developed character. The nonsensical way in which it spoke reminded me of Wonderland!

Where I think Wolf fell short is with the Worldbuilding aspect. We do get to learn more about the backstory/history that I felt helped to answer questions I had from book 1. It also lended to help understand some of the characters choices. We also got to understand more of Gravik and see him flushed out as a character more. But I felt like the concept of witches and that element were expounded on although mentioned frequently.

Although it was a victim to middle book syndrome, because it was a lot of set up for the next book. Wolf wove together a story with characters that had such big personalities and also a little morally gray. She was able to write a story full of mystery, sass, and surprising twists in regards to character choices. It was a good addition to a unique series that has its own magical elements and history that I find new and refreshing. I mean what is better than a heartless striving to win their heart back, concurrently finding love while having no heart!

Zera's personality really shines in this one. When things are looking even lower than before she still keeps a sense of humor. Her relationships with the valkerax and Yorl are my favorites. Her relationships with Lucien, Fione, and Malachite are damaged. I am up in the air on Varia, go back and forth hating and liking her. Story is well paced. Ending is a huge cliffhanger. Can't wait to get next book!

Find Me Their Bones was an incredible continuation of the Bring Me Their Hearts Series. This book started off right where the last one ended. The action packed pages were filled with secrets, friendship, betrayal, and finding faith in yourself. And it never once slowed down. So hold on because you're about to be taken on a fabulous journey! So here are some of my favorite things about this book.....

I’m being forced to choose again. Between my heart and him. But this time… this time I’ll make the right choice.

✮ Zera & Sacrifice:

“How can something that was a lie mean anything at all?”

Zera was a force to be reckoned with. The fact that she was a heartless who could weep, she was wanted for something special. No matter how dark that path would become, she still had her voice. Zera still had her snark. But she had so much to learn. Who to trust. How to choose what was right. While Zera made some excellent decisions, she also made some that hurt my heart. Even if it was truly for the best.

A thousand things flood my mouth and jockey for first place: I’m sorry. I wanted to tell you. I didn’t mean to hurt you—

I loved that Zera was smart, quick witted and had a heart, even if it wasn't in her chest. I hoped she'd finally find the path that led her to happiness. Because she had lost so much. Her life felt even more horrific now and I cried for her, for the injustice of it all. It hurt that she had to tarnish herself and the friendships she had with others. Her lies hurt. Her actions hurt. It all hurt. But her reasons behind it were pure hearted. She wanted to make amends with those she betrayed. But I wanted her to be selfish for once. To take what she wanted. She deserved happiness, love and friendship. She was such an amazing person and I kept waiting for her to realize how truly astounding she was.

✮ Prince Lucien & The Truth:

He’s beautiful. And I can’t bear to tear my gaze away. No matter how much I know I should, no matter how much I know I need to push him away, I can’t bring myself to.
Neither of us speaks.

Prince Lucien was even more swoon worthy in Find Me Their Bones. And don't tell Zera, but I loved him the most! Just like the first book, I looked for clues surrounding Prince Lucien. He emitted anger and disgust towards Zera. After all, she was a heartless who deceived him and murdered others. Yet I kept my fingers crossed that he would see the light for who she truly was.

“You actually think I would tell you the truth? After everything I’ve done?” I whisper up at him.
“I’m giving you another chance to,” he says.

My heart was in my throat when Prince Lucien would say things that made me pause or second guess what he was saying. A touch here. A glance there. Was I only reading into how I wanted it to all turn out? But Prince Lucien was also on an emotional journey. One I can't say why, other than I was so extremely proud of him!

✮ Lost In The Story:

This one moment is all I could ever ask for. It is all I will ever have, and I tattoo it into every part of my aching flesh.

Find Me Their Bones was perfectly paced and always kept me entertained. There were twists and turns and while I saw a lot of them coming, I was still in shock. I was in disbelief that that truly happened. With heart stopping peril and moments that made me laugh out loud, this book was the perfect combination. So much was revealed and it all became so clear what was happening and where it was all leading us to.

He laughs softly, hollowly, keeping his mouth by my ear. “Don’t look so troubled, Lady Zera. You and I both know it’s true. It was only two weeks. What sort of love is ever true after only two weeks? We were infatuated, and nothing more.”
His thoughts mirror mine, the truth like needles piercing any joy I held secretly.
“And yet,” he says, “emotions aren’t convenient pieces of jewelry you can put on and take off whenever you want to.”

Looking back, I was even more emotional with this story. I had tears for the tiny remnants of friendship I found. I had tears for when the truth was spoken. And I even shed tears for what Zera was able to accomplish. I was SO proud of her. But this story isn't close to being over, so I'll be desperately counting down until the next book is released and I can be back in this world I love. I can't wait to be back with my friends. So yes, I definitely recommend this series. But be prepared, it's a wild and fabulous ride!

Seriously blown away. This series has me hanging onto every single word. I can’t get enough. I want to know everything but I don’t want it to end.

Being heartless means the place where there should be a beat is missing its instrument. Lady Zera is immortal and as special as a heartless can be. She belongs a witch and has one task in mind. Finding peace isn’t possible with the hunger inside her. Having her heart should mean everything but what of the friends she’s made. The ones who call her a traitor. Lady Zera has a new mission and yet her goal remains the same. Bringing her heart back into her chest will cost her the ultimate consequence.

To feel whole again will mean to understand her Darkside. The bone tree holds all the magic but the end is not quite in sight.

I’m hanging on to every cruel minute in the wait for the next instalment. This book is fantasy at its best. The heart is only as good as the owner's soul. Choose wisely.

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. It’s excellent. This series needs to be read in order and from the beginning. 5+ out of this world stars.

This was a title I was super excited for, and it did definitely not disappoint!
I do recommend reading the first book in the series first, though. This is the main reason why I gave it four stars, but might I have read the first book, the second book could have easily been a 5-star review. Now, it was somewhat harder to get into the story.
I will definitely be doing that in the future, as this is a series I really loved.
The thing I loved most was probably the characters, and their development. I could really connect to them.
