3,5 stars.

I got this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

After the second book of this series I couldn’t wait to read the final book. My expectations were very high, because the second book was amazing and I thought the third will not be different.

I was disappointed. What I loved the most about Traitor born was the romance, the chemistry between main characters. In Rebel born they changed and the romance was kind of like instalove, barely any chemistry between them.

It was still action packed, so I have no complains about that.

It was a good read but the second book was much better.

I had already pre-purchased this book, but I was lucky to get this book early from Netgalley and read it as an ARC.

It really took a detour from where the first and second books seemed to be leading it. It was a bit different. Enjoyable, but different. There were certain aspects and story lines that I didn’t seem to get as they weren’t really in keeping with the first and second books. Still super great and focused on the main characters and secondary characters. We also got answers for characters that seemed to disappear or moved on.
In contrast to the first two books I also noted there weren’t as many quotes to highlight or that really stood out. This isn’t a biggie really, I just love a good quote that you won’t read anywhere and that stays in your mind. I’ll always remember Dunes advice in book one “never outlive your usefulness to the pack”, and Roselles “in our darkest moments we are at our best”. Like i said. I love a good quote.
The only two things I didn’t really like were it detracted from the main idea of the first two books and I thought it would focus on the trials a bit more since there was a bit of emphasis on it in the first two books. The second thing is i thought that there would be a bit more of a bang in the end. There was a bang, but not quite like where Roselle takes on the death dealers in the second book at the Gods and Demons party.

Crow remains my favourite villain. He took his crazy to a new level and I loved it. I thought that we should have maybe seen a bit more of what he did to Roselle or move of what he made her do while she was in no-mans land. I thought bringing her out of there and showing her everything he’d made her do would be another way of him hurting her and being all “villainy”.

Roselle is still the ultimate badass. She didn’t have as many kick butt moments but she’s Roselle so she gets a pass.

Reykin, reykin, reykin. I’m still in love with him in this book as much as the last one. Nothing changed. I can’t say anything more than I love him.

We meet a new character in this book and he may have stolen the show for me. If Amy starts a new series I hope he’s in my it. His dry seriousness was great and I had a few lol moments.

I was so excited and really loved the story. Out of the three books in this series I would have to say that the second book is my favourite; however, there were things in this book that were better than the others.

Rebel Born was one of my most anticipated reads of the year. When I received a copy from Net Galley I literally did a happy dance.

This story takes place about a month after Traitor Born and a whole lot has happened but Roselle does not remember what has happened. She has been in a dream so. tate and all the sudden there was a glitch of some kind. From there the story really gets started. Crow is back and as you know is the big baddie of the series. He has gone way overboard and here comes Roselle and company to save the day. So many old faces are back (Reykin!!!) but also we meet some new (Cherno is one of my new faves of the series) You also find out Roselle really can sticketh. My biggest complaint and why give it 4 stars is because the ending seemed so rush. I can't really say the reasoning without huge spoilers but it i wish more was spent on the end and not as much on the build up.
Overall Bartol did a superb job concluding Roselle's story although there is always room for more I am very satisfied where it ended and I think everyone will be ecstatic with the ending.

I just finished Rebel Born and my head is spinning. The universe Amy creates in her books are so complete I feel like I’m there. Awesome ending to this series and I like how it’s left open for more if she ever chooses to do so.
Crow is just plain awful. The sick fascination he has with Roselle is jarring. I think the only disappointing part of this book is the lack of ending with him and his treachery.
Roselle, Reykin, Hawthorne, Clifton...I love them all and who Roselle ends up with is so fitting. All in all this series is a five star and I can’t wait to see Amy’s next creations.

This, the final book from the Secondborn series, was just an okay read for me. It seemed to veer off in a mind boggling direction. I did not like that at all. Technological rambling, too much AI, a little repetitive. I really liked Cherno, and the ending was very good. After 2- 5 star books, this one went off the sc-fi deep end. 3 stars.I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.

Dystopian turned sci-fi thriller, Rebel Born is an action packed wild ride! Of course Roselle is the ultimate heroine, in the same league with Evie and Kricket, but in this book she becomes... more, and it's awesome. There's no holding her back.
Some old friends make an appearance and Roselle makes some new unexpected friends. There's also plenty of heartbreak and romance.
I was slightly disappointed by the climax of the story, I was hoping for more of an epic battle, but the ending and prologue are perfect. Exactly what I would've wanted for Roselle after all she's been through

Thank you to 47 North and NetGalley for giving me an opportunity to read this e-arc. I screamed when I saw I was approved to read it!

Rebel Born is the last book in the Secondborn series. So here is a mini recap of what happened in the previous books: secondborn children in the Fates of the Republic (there are nine fates) are property of the government. Thirdborns die, you get the idea. Roselle, a secondborn from the Fate of Swords becomes a soldier in the fight against the rebels, the Gates of Dawn. Census is the acting body of the republic who upholds the secondborn law, among other things. One person in Census in particular, Agent Crow, has a sick fascination with Roselle. The more successful she is, the harder he tries to take her down, but his plans are more sinister than anyone imagines. With the war between the Fates and the Gates of Dawn heating up, Agent Crow is brewing up something nasty to take over everyone.

Rebel Born takes place right after that heart-stopping Traitor Born cliffhanger ending. Roselle is separated from Reykin in a horrific fashion. She is unfortunately under Crow’s mind control now but with the help of a somewhat familiar face, a technician in Crow’s lab – she has a better chance of breaking free from the madman.

This book is filled – filled with information on Crow’s ability to control minds and I wasn’t patient enough for it. Keep in mind, I was here first and foremost for Reykin and Roselle. 😉 I felt like I was hyperventilating looking for his name in the first few pages. I teared up when they were finally reunited in this story. I’ve been waiting a whole year for this to happen. After I was reassured they were okay, I told myself to really focus. And as a lover of this series, I also knew I was going to re-read Rebel Born many, many times over, so I forgave myself for rushing through a lot of the technical parts in my first read.

The author goes into tons of detail about mind control, implants, biotechnology and so much more, I got lost trying to understand how it all worked. Mind you, I am not a big sci-fi genre reader but when Amy writes it, I read it. ☺️ The first two books of this series introduces us to the Fates, the characters, the Gates of Dawn and the rebellion. This third book is about Crow’s take over of the Fates and him trying to infiltrate the Gates of Dawn. And then it escalates even more and at one point it was data overload for me. Because then the story adds additional surprising elements and it’s a mind bend. But I do get it, Agent Crow wanted it all, more than mind control, he wanted power forever…immortality and Roselle is a key to that.

But this is one of the reasons why I love this author. Amy A. Bartol always kicks things up a notch. And it seems crazy and chaotic but I find her stories super creative, fascinating and exciting, plus I love her characters. There is a new character in this book who was pretty fun to get to know. The author is so detailed in her descriptions that I can see these books on screen, and actually I wish I was watching this as a tv series instead of reading it.

Roselle, has always been a fierce and smart character. Agent Crow wants her because she’s an amazing fighter. I love how she can be strong and yet vulnerable. Here in Rebel Born, she is broken down emotionally by the mind control, but she is also upgraded in amazing ways.

When I read the ending I thought I missed something because I was waiting for Crow’s ultimate destruction. I wanted him completely eliminated. He is such a villain, so I thought the ending was abrupt but the epilogue made up for it. Then I realized the ending left a possibility to return to this world some day and that made me really happy.

In the end, I was satisfied with the story. It gave me exactly what I wanted for Reykin and Roselle especially, and then some. I’m not even sure if the extra stuff was needed, but I’m here for it all if Amy is writing it. Overall this is a good ending to a fabulous series. I’m already looking forward to see what she will be writing next.

Wow, what a ride Amy led us on! Last we saw Roselle she was in a pickle. She had been captured by Agent Crow. This continues immediately after Traitor Born left us. We see what Roselle goes through and how she overcomes it and grows even stronger.

Most of our favorite characters are back and we're introduced to a few new ones. One, in particular I think everyone will love like I do.

Amy's mind is incredible. There's so much detailed information that it's sometimes hard to understand but I love imagining a world she can create.

I also loved how Amy handled the love triangle that I had a hard time choosing between. The ending left me quite happy. I think we could have many more books in this world and still be just as thrilled.

Thank you to NetGalley for the copy.

It is always bittersweet when a beloved series comes to an end. Rebel Born is the final installment in Amy Bartol's 'Secondborn' series. 'Rebel Born' was all it promised to be, engaging and dynamic, it pulled me in from page one and held me spell bound until the very end.

Roselle St. Sismode is a secondborn child in a society that only allows every family to have two children. In every family the firstborn child will inherit the family title and wealth, secondborn children are destined to become soldiers for the military, while thirdborn children face death. A group called Census monitor's and maintains status quo, ensuring that only first and secondborn children survive. Roselle accepts her fate. Growing up as the daughter to the Fate of Swords her life was on display, televised, for all to watch. Because of her 'life of privilege' she is disdained by other second borns and must earn her place on the battlefield. Roselle proves herself and builds true friendships and allies with her fellow soldiers; like Hawthorne Trugrave. Soldiers in the Republic's army fight against the rising rebel forces attempting to bring down the established caste system.

On the battlefield Roselle saves the life of a young rebel named Reykin Winterstrom. In a world where Roselle can trust very few she develops respect and trust with Reykin. Roselle has threats closing in on all sides. Roselle's mother, Othala St. Sismode has always wanted her daughter dead as she views Roselle as a threat to Othala's position in the Republic. A man in Census named Crow also seems to want Roselle's demise. During the opening ceremony of the Secondborn Trials, Crow, with the assistance of a mind controlled Hawthorne, captures Roselle. Crow believes he has her implanted with a mind control device, transforming her into one of his assassins, in the hopes of bringing down the Republic and putting himself in power. Fortunately for Roselle, the technician who installed the mind control tech is the third born son of the Winterstrom family. Roselle has been implanted with technology that allows her to stave off Crow's ability to control her. This technology allows Roselle to build a resistance and bring it all down.

I loved the character and world development in this series. As an author, Bartol has the ability to develop and provide depth to her books. I recommend any and all of Amy Bartol's series to book readers. The ending of 'Rebel Born' brings closure and also allows a small seed to make the reader wonder if someday there may be more.

Roselle and her epic journey comes to its thrilling conclusion and could not have been more perfect. Her journey is hard, and at times a very lonely one, but our heroine always digs deep and gives it her everything, even when things look there darkest. She is changing. Becoming. More than she was, yet her fears ate always there. There is always something to loose, people that can be used to bring her to her knees. Reykin is never far from her side, a protective force that is not always pleasant, but there nonetheless. Her journey is perilous and fraught with danger, but she will not give up. The forces she fights might be more harrowing than she could have ever imagined, and things are definitely not as they seem. A braver, more selfless heroine I could not have wished for and I have loved ever moment of her journey. I highly recommend to the young and the old. Absolutely something to love for everyone! Thank you to the author for this epic tale I will cherish and remember always.

I have never been so stressed or anxious for a book to be release. I read book 1&2 over and over again to make sure I didn’t miss anything while waiting for this book. I’ve read all of Amy’s other books, and very impatiently waited for this book. Once I finally got my hands on it I could not put it down. This book took my breath away, made me anxious, and most of all happy. I LOVE this book & series - I was so worried the whole time so I speed read through it. I have circled back now to slow read now and see what clues I may have missed. I’m sure I’ll re read it another 89 times, because it is that good. Honestly it couldn’t have ended better, I am so exstatic for everyone else to read this book!! Selfishly I wish there was more but everything ended perfectly. A perfect ending to a perfect book series. Thank you for creating this world and allowing us in it Amy.!!

Amy Bartol has done it again!! I am in love with the Secondborn series! I loved the first two books of the series. To be honest I was a little nervous going into Rebel Born. I love all of Amy Bartol's books. The last book of each series has left me needing more of the characters story and more closure and hoping for more. However, Rebel Born ended perfectly! Amy Bartol does such an amazing job writing characters that I always feel a void when finishing their story, but I received the closure I wanted/needed.

The whole story was amazing. Roselle is such a dominant strong heroine but in Rebel Born you saw a softness and vulnerability without taking away from her fierceness. The story itself took me places I never expected and gave me everything I needed/wanted in Roselle's story.

*I received an ARC for my honest opinion*

Such an incredible journey we all went on with this trilogy.. I absolutely loved these books and this was no exception. Roselle is an incredibly amazing strong female character that we've needed for a very long time. I love Amy and all her books. She has an amazing niche for storytelling and drawing the reader in for a very crazy ride. Her cliffhangers are killer. I loved the ending to Roselle's story and these books where everything.

A long anticipated conclusion to the Second Born series, which did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down.
At the end of Traitor Born, Roselle (the main character) was left in dire circumstances after a heart-rending cliffhanger. At the onset of Rebel Born, we discover that Roselle has been implanted with new technology by a pioneering technician. Forced to work with the sadistic Agent Crow and separated from her allies; Roselle has to find a way to escape from her nightmare existence, adapt to her newly enhanced abilities and discover a way to save her world. We are introduced to a couple of new characters, namely Ransom and Cherno. The latter was highly entertaining and provided some much needed comedy after some shockers early on. We also see the return of Hammon and Edgerton.
With respect to the plot, Amy Bartol did a brilliant job. I didn’t anticipate the events that unfolded, the pace kept me hooked from start to finish. Her imaginative world building, writing style and depth of characters never fails to amaze me.
I was very fortunate to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend The Secondborn Series. If you enjoy sci-fi/fantasy/pnr, with a strong female heroine you won’t be disappointed.

This third book in the Secondborn series was excellent. It was paced well and I never lost interest. The first two books seemed slow and uninteresting at points, but this book held my attention from the time I started the prologue. The problems presented in this series were all resolved in a satisfying way. The action and romance were well balanced so it never felt like there was too much of either one. The descriptions in this book created vivid images in my mind that made the scenarios presented feel more real. This villain could strike fear into the most fearless of hearts. He seems to be all powerful with no means of defeating him. This book has many moments of despair, but balances those well with many hopeful and happy moments as well. I highly recommend it!
