Reading this story, I wasn’t sure if it was fiction or non fiction. It read like nonfiction, but with speech within in, it was interesting and I want to know more about the time period for sure.
Escapes is set in Italy during World War II. I really liked the storyline, it had me gripped from start to finish. I can't wait to find out more about this time period.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was one of the best books I have read in a long time. Not my usual genre, I was captivated by the description and have never been so glad I decided to venture into a different style of book.
The author tells the riveting tale of his family and their lives through WWI and WWII. Arturo DiMartino lived in Italy with his family. When Italy is left in financial ruin after WWI Arturo is determined to help those countrymen he has known his whole life rebuild and start to make things right. He does this the only way he knows how through writing and politics, Unfortunately, under Mussolini's rule, Italy is facing new problems, and DiMartino eventually starts speaking out. When the lives of his family are threatened, Arturo must flee his beloved country and start anew. Over many years, the family faces numerous challenges and obstacles. As the story unfolds, many unknown facts about Italy's involvement in the wars come to light, and I was completely captivated by this time in Italy's history to which I knew so little.
This is a true story of one family's trials and tribulations through three generations. I was completely enthralled by the story and would love to read more from this author.
