Millie Hart writes romance, the happy endings that readers want for themselves, but she knows she can do more. In one last attempt to impress her scholarly father Millie sets out to write the complete opposite of romance, but first she'll need to get somewhere secluded, somewhere moody, somewhere not filled with a lawn of gnomes. Unfortunately, a lawn of gnomes and a cheery cottage is what she's got, so she's going to make the most of it, at least until the hears the 80's music blaring from next door.
She refuses to let her neighbor stop her from literary success, but she doesn't plan on their chemistry, their witty banter, the charm of the town, or her brain's natural tendency to write a meet cute into a happily ever after starring herself.
There was angst, but not too much, humour and good plot development. What made this romance stand out was the shout out to so many other great romance writers as Millie and Drake’s aunt compare authors and favourite books – it was fun to see with how many books/authors I was familiar, and to get recommendations for those where I wasn’t.
I will read anything and everything by this author! Her books are just so well written and I can’t put them down!
This was a really sweet romance! It reminded me a lot of an adult version of the Sarah Dessen novels I loved so much as a teenager. I really related to Millie, and all of the side characters in Bodega Bay were great!
Tracy Ewens writes wonderful introspective characters that are so relatable. In Blow, we had a romance writer trying to change gears for her father's approval and a man mentally recovering from a life changing accident. Their issues and misunderstandings are understandable and you root for them to get past their dislike to discover each other.
Some emotional and moving moments but realistically not one I’m going to remember for a long time. It was a good story but the writing was a bit off at times.
Cheeky, quirky love story.. Sad, emotional. Book wasn't written very well - it felt choppy in too many parts of the story to fully enjoy it. Clever overall but not for me in the end.
This was such an emotionally driven book that deals with some heavy subjects sometimes and this can be considered strangers to enemies to lovers (but the enemies part is really just them being an ass to each other just for the sake of it).
I liked that in this book the characters don't actually need each other to deal with their things but their presence helps, which is such a good message. Both the characters have a lot of past trauma the goes from PTSD to a family dealing with grieving.
I loved the writing style and the idea of showing the way Millie start to deal with an absent parent throughout the writing of this character (I actually wanted to read the book she writing) and the art that Drake creates with glass.
It was fine (but worst title) and I can hardly remember anything about it after a few months. Very non-descript.
What a delightful book! And a different one as well. Considering the lead character, Millie, is a romance author herself. The books is a very enjoyable read, readers won't be disappointed.
I received Blow:A Love Story by Tracy Ewens as an ARC from NetGalley. Millie Hart is a romance writer who decides to go away and write a serious novel. She leaves her home in San Francisco to rent a home in Bodega Bay for 4 months. Her father is a bookseller who is not impressed with Millie's romance novels even though she is a successful writer. Millie hopes that writer a serious novel will earn her dad's approval. She moves in next door to local, Drake Branch who lives in an Airstream. He owns a glass blowing business and lost his arm in a serious motorcycle accident. Millie and Drake both have demons that they need to face but it doesn't stop a romance from developing between the two of them. I love the characters in this novel and the snarkiness between Millie & Drake. I highly recommend Blow and look forward to reading more by Ewens.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this. I will be posting a full review to Goodreads, Amazon, and Instagram.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.
I'm honestly still not really sure how I feel about this book. I guess the best way to say it is .. it was just okay. Mediocre. Not horrible, but not anything I'll remember months from now either.
The writing style was pretty good. The flow was easy to follow and read. The characters were okay and had redeemable qualities. Overall, it's a "feel good" happy ending book. Just wasn't for me.
A very sweet romance novel set in a tourist town with a writer as a female main character. Millie and Drake were written in such a beautiful way, I loved everything about the characters and their own struggles, it felt very real, very emotional.
There's so much love for the romance world in this book! Also, some very good book recommendations! And it's even a really good book, too!
Millie is a successful romance author with a lot of personal issues and past traumas. Drake is a glass blower (??) in an adorable small town, with a lot of baggage and who survived some traumatic experience.
When Millie moves to Bodega Bay for four months trying to write a new novel, she end up next door to Drake, who has a bad attitude towards tourists and listens to music very loudly while he works. They fight a lot in the beginning, but soon they learn to accept each other. And, perhaps, they can find a path to healing themselves by learning to open up? I won't tell, 'cause that would be a spoiler. And we don't want spoilers, do we?
This book gave me all the right fuzzy and sweet feelings I expected, and introduced me to a wonderful new author and a really lovely new book world.
Really enjoyed this! I liked Millie a lot and thought the whole premise of this book was great. However, I'm not sure how I feel about alternating POVs. - there are so many of them in books now. Sometimes I like the mystery of not fully knowing the other main character's story and thoughts.
This was the first book I've read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. It was very well written and the characters were well thought out.

Drake is all bark no bite, but he needs the music to work and something about his temporary neighbor and her insane pajamas has him growling a bit more often. She refuses to let her neighbor stop her from literary success, but she doesn't plan on their chemistry, their witty banter, the charm of the town, or her brain's natural tendency to write a meet cute into a happily ever after starring herself.
Another instant hint from Tracy Ewens filled with heat and heart! Blow is the realistic love story told from the alternative perspective of Millie and Drake. It's a classic case of small town locals meets big shot out of towner, no one wants to let her in, but Millie seems to be holding the key to Bodega Bay's missing pieces and soon it's just Drake having a hard time opening up. Millie was not my favorite at first, she's all talk and money, but then she opens up and we get to see she's wearing the same armor we all have on, the one we made out of our parent's opinions, our past hurts, our dreams and the struggles we've gone through to get them. Drake is handsome, intimidating, and a bit entitled, but he's got a story behind him too and getting to know it made me fall for him hard. Millie and Drake don't seem to be a pair of puzzle pieces meant to be together, but somehow they fit even if it takes them an entire novel to figure it out. They annoy one another, they bicker, but they understand one another and it makes for such a charming love story.
Like all Tracy Ewens novels, I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love with the characters and town that she brings to life on the pages. The A Love Story series consists of several standalone novels that take place in cute northern California towns. They feature relatable characters going through real life situations and finding love along the way. The characters are quirky, the dialogue feels natural, and the writing is just stellar. I am forever a fan of this series and Blow is at the top of that list now.
Blow is a romance novel for lovers of romance novels. It makes a great case for the genre as a place of joy for readers. I love the protagonist, romance writer Millie Hart, and her quest to write her way our of the darkness in her past. Her hero, Drake, is a small-town guy who is working through his own trauma. Together, they make the perfect romance pair, and a great detail is that Drake starts reading romance novels himself!
This book is fun, takes place in a lovely bay-side setting, and has characters who warm up the coldness of our real, stressful lives. We fall in love with some secondary characters who are ripe to take on their own plots in sequels. Can't wait to read the next Bodega Bay installment!
Blow: A Love Story is predictable but never boring. Following Millie Hart and her adventures in a small hamlet outside of San Francisco, we find a protagonist that is trying to finish her latest novel but finds herself continually distracted by the inhabitants of the small town. Blow unfolds like a typical bollywood masala movie (and I mean that in the best possible sense). It's full of comedy, high drama, emotional baggage, and a welcome ending. It's a fun, quick read. Well worth the effort. 4 stars.
A cute small town, slow burn romance. If you enjoy those types of romance novels you will enjoy this one.
