I almost stopped reading after the first chapter because the character lacked voice and personality and an excess of repetitiveness. However, I can very rarely bring myself to mark a book DNF, so a couple nights later, I read the rest of the book. It didn't get much better.
Yes, I get this is for kids, but I think even 12-year-olds are more likely to engage with a text if the character has more voice and personality.
The book did have a good message for kids whose parent's are going through a divorce, but it was told in a very cliche way. And at times, it felt like the message was too loud. It took precedence over everything else.
