I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
*The Divorce* by Victoria Jenkins is a fast-paced and intriguing read that keeps the story moving at just the right speed. From the outset, the premise promised a gripping exploration of difficult topics, particularly domestic abuse, which I thought would draw me in. However, while the book was engaging, it ultimately didn’t meet my expectations. The story, while well-written, fell a bit flat for me, and I found myself struggling to connect with the characters or fully invest in the plot.
That being said, Jenkins does tackle some uncomfortable and important themes, particularly the complexities of domestic abuse and its aftermath. The book raises thought-provoking questions about responsibility and the far-reaching effects of such trauma. It left me contemplating whose fault it is when things go wrong, and how abuse can impact all involved. Still, I felt the tension could have been dialed up a bit more to truly heighten the emotional stakes. Overall, it was an okay read, but I had hoped for a more compelling narrative.
I wanted to like this one but it was terribly slow and the twist was moderately ok. I didn't care for the ending at all. I don't think it was much of a thriller but I'm still glad I read it.

A very interesting premise and enjoyed the twist towards the end but I found the characters deeply unlikeable and that made it hard to plow through the chapters (which were often quite long). That said, I was intrigued enough to keep going and it certainly picked up towards the end. I'd read more from the author but this book just wasn't for me unfortunately.
Finally got round to reading this and so glad I did! A disturbingly dark plot with a twist that I definitely did not see coming!
Karen is a marriage counselor and when she meets her new clients she knows she has to help Lydia get away from her abusive husband, but not all is as it seems.....
These are terrible characters. There is no other way to put it. Like, imagine everyone has the intellectual acuity of your dog, then pretend that they can talk and have careers. I just saved you three hours of reading.
This book was so disappointing. It wasnt what I expected so it was so a flat blah for me. I kept hoping for more thrills. I didnt really connect with the characters and the plot wasnt interesting so I really felt there could have been more tension in there too.
I love a good psychological thriller, so this synopsis grabbed my attention. Lydia and Josh Green seek out Karen for counseling. The more time Karen spends with them, the more unease she feels. Something isn’t quite right.
This book was a very slow build for me. I prefer my psychological thrillers to be fast-paced and ones that I don’t want to put down. This one fell short for me in that aspect. There were also many arts that were repetitive and felt unnecessary. However, I enjoyed the alternating POVs between the three characters. Ultimately, the ending was really the only part where I didn’t want to put the book down. If you prefer slower thrillers, then this one might be for you.
Thank you so much for this ARC!
I started to read this title quite a few times, however, I was never able to finish.
This book didn't impress me much. I wouldn't say it was exactly a thriller. It started well and then the characters just went dull. The motive behind the suspense was also not satisfactory for me.
A huge Thank You to The author, The publisher and Netgalley for providing the e-arc in exchange for a unbiased review of these works.
an intresting concept, following the story of a marrige through the eyes of the therapist, twisty and gripping,
In The Divorce, you get to know a married couple from questions asked by their marriage therapist Karen. I found it interesting how Karen built up a mental profile of the couple through observing body language and based on what they didn't say as well as what they did.
Lydia and Josh are resentful of each other and unwilling to divulge what is really wrong in their marriage. The tension in the room builds as week by week Karen begins to see the cracks and hostility between the couple in the awkward and strained hourly sessions.
Karen lives alone since the death of her husband. She becomes anxious about some strange occurrences and you can feel her isolation and nervous tension.
The book takes an unexpected turn, which I didn't see coming, although I knew all was not how it seemed. At this point the book becomes gripping and I just had to keep the pages turning. The characters were not created to be likeable but I still invested in the story and found it to be an enjoyable read.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. A full review will be posted on Amazon and Goodreads
Good thriller centered around a counselor as she helps a husband and wife work through their troubled marriage.
A slow burner to start but the pace picks up as you go. Some surprises and a good twist along the way!
Thanks to Victoria Jenkins, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the early copy!
I tried out this thriller but did not connect with the writing style. I decided to put it down.
My expectations for this book were all over the place because right in the summary it says that the twist is unlike anything else before. I went into the book knowing that something was going to happen, knowing that the couple was not right and even if you didn't read the summary, Jenkins wrote Josh and Lydia perfectly.
The book is mostly told in the POV of Josh and Lydia's therapist, Karen, who is trying to help them through their issues. She has her own issues that we don't get a real insight into until the end of the book but we do know that she is mourning the loss of her beloved husband.
She is a little paranoid because of something that happened in her past but things keep happening when Josh and Lydia are around that make Karen unsettled. Picture frames moving, someone mouthing the words 'help' during their sessions, and more than one screaming match.
Something was not right about this couple and you really think you know what it is, it seems a little too obvious to the reader, and I guess to Karen. However, Victoria Jenkins does a fantastic job at setting the twist up without giving you any insight as to what is coming.
When the twist happened, it was well worth it! The way the purpose of the novel was revealed and how it played out after was super interesting and intricate.
I really enjoyed every moment of this book. I thought it was really well written, a simple idea without too many characters or settings (the entire book took place in Karen's house, it was super interesting) and a twist that made sense.
My one gripe with the book? The ending. It was very open-ended and left me feeling unsatisfied. I'm the type of reader that likes everything tied up with a neat little bow and this just didn't do it for me. However, that didn't ruin the book and because it was such an easy, interesting read, I feel like I would read this again!
If you're in the market for a quick thriller that isn't necessarily scary and definitely not gory, you'll enjoy "The Divorce." I'm excited to read more from Victoria Jenkins and her lovely writing style!
Karen is a marriage who’s newest clients Josh and Lydia come to her for guidance but they leave her feeling extremely uneasy and scared. I don’t want to give too much away as the less you know the more shocking and enjoyable you will find this book which i have to say is one of the best psychological thrillers i gave read this year!!!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Victoria Jenkins for the arc of The Divorce my review is honest and unbiased.
The Divorce is a claustrophobic psychological thriller. The theme of coercive control was current and the twist towards the end believable.
This was a very good psychological thriller about a psychologist who is giving marital help to a couple that reminds her of another couple she had seen once, but this time is different right?!? I don't want to give away anymore thsn that, I look forward to reading more books by this author.
When Lydia and Josh arrive at Karen’s office for relationship therapy she finds something makes her feel uncomfortable about them. She feels it brings up unhappy memories of her own past relationships and she struggles with the decision If she should continue with the sessions.
I found this book quite slow and struggled to get through it. The characters seemed a little disjointed at times and I found it hard to connect with them.
Really good read. You think you know where this is going, but you really don’t until much further on in the book.
