Thank you Bookouture and Net Galley for an early release of The Divorce. I wasn’t hooked, it took a long time until you figured out where the plot was going. On another note, it had very interesting information in regards to a narcissistic person. All in all, stick with the book if you like twisted psychologicals. Very interesting plot once you got to it.

Having read the 'blurb' about this book I was interested to see what angle the author was going to take as it's a subject which has been the focus of many a book over the years. I really didn't expect what the book offered, and I very much enjoyed what I read.

We are presented with the scenario of a couple attending their first marriage guidance session. Josh and Lydia are clearly struggling with their relationship, with Lydia seeming keen to talk things through and Josh a hostile, cool, presence - somewhat smug and arrogant and critical of virtually everything Lydia says. Counsellor Karen is keen to try and help, encouraging them both to talk honestly and openly about how they see their relationship and the faults they feel need fixing. In this initial meeting she feels very much that Josh is where she needs to focus her attention, her sympathies lying firmly with Lydia.
As we follow their counselling sessions, we discover that Karen herself has had situations in her life which have led to her decision to be a counsellor. She understands first hand some of the abusive personality traits which can ruin a marriage yet knows that the long term effects of these can be helped with counselling, yet never really go away.
The book then takes a sinister turn, and we begin to see that things between Lydia and Josh are not quite as we have been led to believe. Suddenly Josh seems the vulnerable party in the relationship and Karen suggests he seeks grief counselling to help heal his emotional wounds. The whole dynamic seems to have shifted in a short space of time, and the two parties both seek individual sessions with Karen to discuss their personal issues.
This was the point in the book I really started to take notice of what was being said - and the body language which the author described which often didn't match the words being spoken. The whole story stepped up a notch, both in pace and content. Even Karen herself moved from the stereotypical, hippy-type counsellor to a more gritty individual drawing on personal experience rather than what the textbooks say she should be doing.
The climax of the book really did go off at a tangent to what I was expecting, and I give much respect to the author for smoke screening so well in the early part of the book. I was not expecting that ending at all, and was very impressed with the complete switch of direction. I haven't read any of this author's work previously but will be looking out for her in future and will be checking out her backlist too.

I was really looking forward to reading this book but I was left feeling a little flat and deflated. The story line was good but something was missing and I think that was the constant setting of the therapist's room. The characters just didn't come alive enough for me.

We meet Karen, a marriage counsellor, who has faced her own demons in her life and with the loss of her beloved husband she is struggling just to get through the days. From there we are introduced to Lydia and Josh in their first counselling session.

Life has not been kind to Karen and we get glimpses into her background as the book progresses. Lydia is portrayed as the beat down house wife whilst Josh is the domineering hard working doctor but they are not as they seem and it's not long before things bubble to the top.

I do think this book would have possibly been a bit more exciting if we'd seen the characters outside of the consultation room. I would have liked to have got to know them in the outside world.

This was a good story where all is not as it appears but unfortunately I did predict the twist and the ending was a little unsatisfactory.

I really hate leaving bad reviews and for that I apologise but I have to give my honest opinion on a book and for me this book was a not good as I hoped.

Having read this authors King and Lane series and I was excited to read another book by Victoria Jenkins. The Divorce is a very different book. Unfortunately for me it was not quite what I had expected and fell flat. The story sounded like something that I was going to get into but I really struggled with it. In the end it was an ok read but I had hoped for more.

Dr Karen Fisher is a marriage counsellor with her own demons. When she meets Lynda and Josh Greene some of the demon she come back to play with her head. Lynda and Josh have all sorts of issues and they hit close to home for Karen. We also learn all about her past in the course of the therapy. The ending and the twist were the best part of this book. The first half was really slow and it was hard to stay interested.

The Divorce was a very intriguing book. It is told from three points of view- the marriage counselor, the wife, and the husband. It largely takes place within the confines of the counseling room, so most of what we know as readers is the counseling sessions. There is a mystery that the readers figure out near the end of the book, but I feel that the author gives enough clues that you could figure it out earlier. The characters are realistic and interesting. I wish there had been a bit more description in the book, and I wish it was a bit longer, but overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I was expecting something a lot faster and snappier than what i got, so maybe my expectations are at fault for me not loving the book not the book itself. be that as it may, it wasn't bad by any means, just a lot slower than I anticipated.

I was excited to get my hands on this book and enjoyed most of it. I was curious to what was going on with the couple that was being seen and wasn't disappointed when the storyline unfolded. There were some parts that dragged on a little bit that I felt didn't do anything for the story but as a whole I liked this book. I was hoping to love this book, but unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. I found this book to be quite boring and toward the end, unbelievable. I couldn’t connect with the characters and found the “plot twist” to be completely unbelievable. I love this author but couldn’t get on board with this book.

In The Divorce, Dr. Karen Fisher is a psychotherapist seeing patients in her home. The novel starts with her meeting Lynda and Josh Greene and taking them on as patients. Lynda seems to want to save her marriage while Josh shows no interest in being at therapy. The book goes on to switch perspectives in each chapter, and in turn, each chapter starts as a new therapy session. However, Josh and Lynda aren’t who they say they are…

Jenkins develops Karen’s backstory a bit, informing us about her two former husbands (one evil, one good), the abuse she endured, and even about her tragic loss of her son. I felt that these details saved the book, and could have set it up for an even deeper plot, but unfortunately, this did not turn out to be the case.

Unfortunately, The Divorce came a bit short for me. I felt like I was watching someone in therapy, up until the last 1/4 of the book. The twist at the end seemed slightly over-dramatic and came out of nowhere. Unfortunately, I am rating The Divorce 2 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed Jenkins’ writing style, I just think this plot fell a bit short for me. I will make sure to give her books another chance.

This book had a promising story line but there was too much talking and no action. A disappointing read

This is my first book by Victoria Jenkins and I loved it. Excellent domestic thriller that begins with a young couple going to marriage counseling and turning their counselors life upside down with their twisted plot for revenge. Well written, entertaining, and difficult to put down. I highly recommend this book.

I liked the whole idea behind this book but to be honest I just found it very boring. Nothing much seemed to happen in it apart from talking and the whole book was set in one place. It picked up towards the end but unfortunately it just didn’t keep my attention

This book was like a rollercoaster for me but not in a thriller kind of way.. some parts I was on the edge of my seat but for most of it I was either bored or confused. The ending was very disappointing but I’m giving it 3 stars instead of lower because it had a surprising plot twist. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

This was an OK read for me. It has a good storyline, a bit slow at times but I would read more by this author.

I thought that this book was too slow and that it totally lacked suspense. I did read it but I did not feel empathy for any of the characters by the end. It is just not my cup of tea. Sorry

This was a really quick an intriguing read. Jenkins did a great job of keeping her readers on the hook with this novel. I was guessing from Chapter 1 - and ended up feeling like I was balancing on the edge of my seat the whole time. I feel like a lot of psychological thrillers like this one can have an unfulfilling payoff, but this one definitely held up. Jenkins kept the story smooth and consistently guessing as to how the story was going to end unfolding. I will definitely be picking up more books from Victoria Jenkins. It was really great to dive into a twisty thriller that also was a quick read!

Absolutely loved this novel! Excellent character development, and totally keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. Highly recommended!

A good thriller with a twist I didn’t quite see coming!

Karen is a marriage councillor who takes on the case of Josh and Lydia Green. What seems like just an average couple looking to save their marriage quickly turns into something far more sinister. As the sessions progress Karen starts to feel uneasy about the couple. There’s something about them that reminds her of events from her past, a past she has tried hard to forget.

Initially I had a hard time getting into this novel. It was a lot of back and forth, session after session. But once I started to realize there was much more going on I had a hard time putting it down. Even when I thought I’d had it figured out, the twist was something I didn’t quite see coming!
