This book is amazing! It tells the story of Molly, a cocker Spaniel who is a cat finding dog! The author- Colin Bucher, a policeman for many years, and in the Royal Navy for a decade before that, is now the owner of a Pet detection agency.
Realizing he needed a partner, he went on all websites to find the perfect companion, to train to sniff and find the animal in question. The road had a few bumps on it, but finally Molly, once an unwanted and unloved rescue dog, was matched with the perfect man and together they went on to find many cats, and even found a treasure trove of jewels.
In this book we get to see just some of the cases Molly and Colin take on and the end results. It is so awesome to read about the happiness Colin and Molly give to many by finding their pet. I totally enjoyed this book and hope to read more about Molly in the future! I gave this title 5 stars!

I give this book 4 ⭐️ or actually 🐶🐶🐶🐶

This is a true heartwarming story about Colin and his Cocker Spaniel named Molly. Molly isn’t your normal dog, she is a “pet detective”. She was trained to sniff out and find lost pets with most of them being cats. Dogs and cats getting along? Crazy!
.
This story takes you from the beginning as you learn about the training Molly had to acquire along with Colin to create their own pet detective agency. With this being a true story unfortunately not all of the lost pet cases ended on a happy note. You could sense that those cases were tough on both Colin and Molly. As the story progresses we follow them along their journey meeting all sorts of pets and individuals. By 2018 Colin and Molly have rescued 74 cats, 6 dogs and a tortoise.
.
If you are a lover of dogs or cats I highly suggest this easy read. This book is well written and the real life characters are a great addition to the story. Plus I believe Colin is going to write more books about his adventures with Molly.

Heartwarming story of Colin Butcher and his amazing Cocker Spaniel, Molly, and how they became a pet- detective duo.
Colin rescued Molly and immediately began training her for scent recognition. Molly began 4 months training at the Surrey Police Crime Unit in 1993. She learned to identify and find Class A drugs like cocaine, heroin and ecstasy.
In 2003, Colin started his own Private Investigative business, that eventually moved to Bramble Hill Farms, a 500 acre estate used to farm cows and sheep and owned by a long time friend if Colin. Molly began rescuing cats and is a very happy, healthy and loved companion.
Thanks to netgalley for sending this e-book ARC for review.
If my cat EMMA is ever lost, I will be flying Pet Detective duo Colin Butcher, and his rescue dog, Molly, FIRST CLASS , to Gilbert, AZ to find her!
YES, my cat means that much to me! 😻
If you love dogs, you will want to read about Molly, a dog trained to find a missing cat, by smelling its unique scent, off of a tuft of fur, and following the scent to the moggie’s hiding place.
If you love cats, you will be moved by the tearful reunions between the felines and the humans who love them.
Because this is a true story, not every case has a “happily ever after” resolution but as of this printing, 74 missing cats, 6 dogs, and one Hermann’s Tortoise have been located...and Molly and Colin are still on the prowl...
Do I sniff a sequel ? I hope so!

A heartwarming tale of an adorably irrepressible cocker spaniel named Molly and the many cats she's rescued. I enjoyed reading about Colin Butcher's background and the circumstances that led to him meeting Molly and the creation his private detective agency. Butcher's engaging, conversational writing style will make this story accessible to many readers. The star of the show is clearly Molly, but I think the story could have benefited from additional details on each of the rescued cats and dogs. The circumstances in which they went missing were extensively chronicled, but once they were rescued I really wanted to feel more of a connection to the animals themselves. I didn't find Sarah to be a very likable personality, the way that she was always disgusted by Molly and her antics. She eventually became closer to the dog, but for the majority of the story she complained constantly about what seemed to be a very sweet and loving animal, and that really bothered me. Butcher himself was so warm and kindhearted, so I suppose he more than made up for Sarah's icy disdain. But it was a bit puzzling that he was with someone who was so clearly at odds with his life's passion.

Molly by Colin Butcher is a heartwarming tale about how an adorable, feisty cocker spaniel named Molly, along with her handler Colin (and partner in crime) and their hard-won path through hard work, trials, and perseverance to help reunite pet owners and their missing felines.
It is so amazing to read about this journey from the very beginning. You almost feel like you are part of the team from the start of it all. The reader can see how it all started, the training, the set-backs, and ultimately the triumphs.
I have both dogs and cats and nothing is more precious and touching then to be able to see those furry family members saved and reunited with their human counterparts.
It is amazing to see how in the end, both Colin and Molly have saved not only others, but in those quests, they have also saved themselves.
Amazing read.

I was unaware that anything like the United Kingdom Pet Detective Agency (UKPD) actually exists. Had this been a work of fiction I would think that the idea of a dog trained to find lost cats to be intriguing but far fetched and unbelievable. This is an interesting and informative true story.
The author, Colin Butcher, was previously a Detective Inspector with the Surrey Police and was awarded for his contribution to the Criminal Investigation Department. Wanting a new challenge, he set up a Detective Agency with the goal of recovering lost pets. His years of experience as a police detective led him to observe and work alongside police dogs and their handlers. He had seen how the dogs discovered illegal drugs through their highly developed sense of smell, and how they were trained to search for criminals.
He originated the idea of having a companion dog trained to trail lost cats by each cat's individual scent signature. In his search for a trainer, he received many refusals and ridicule. He was told the idea was an impossibility which would never work. He persisted in his goal until finally the centre for Medical Detection Dogs agreed to take on the training. Their usual work is to prepare dogs to detect changes in the health of people with medical conditions or to sniff out certain diseases.
Colin now had to find a dog that he considered right for the training and the work. He wanted a rescue dog, and after a long search found Molly. Molly was willful, stubborn and insecure, having been in a number of different homes during her young life. She is an intelligent, charismatic black cocker spaniel who readily charms the pet owners and others during searches. After successful training, she and Colin became an inseparable team.
The book describes many happy recoveries of missing pets and also the heartbreaking disappointments.it is clear that Colin shows a great deal of empathy for the distraught owners and their missing pets. The book is well-written and engaging. He describes some of their cases, the people they encounter, and the English countryside. By mid-December 2018, Colin and Molly had recovered 74 missing cats, 6 dogs and a tortoise. He intends to write further books about his adventures with Molly.
I would recommend this book to cat and dog lovers, and anyone intrigued by the work of a unique, real-life detective agency.
I loved this book. It was so heartwarming hearing the stories of Colin and Molly’s adventures.
Colin gets the idea to adopt a dog to train to find missing cats. He is met with a lot of negativity but he is persistent and thru his connections, he finds a company that is willing to train a pup for this purpose. Finding the right dog is a whole other issue. Colin is adamant that the dog is a rescue and after many attempts, he is almost ready to give up hope and go to a breeder, when he finds Molly. She is headstrong and willful but proves to be exactly what Colin needs. Molly captures the hear of everyone she meets including Colin’s girlfriend Sarah who is a cat lover, not dog lover. Sarah takes awhile to warm up to Molly but eventually she falls in love with her too. Colin and Molly met so many people along the way and changed so many lives.
This isn’t my usually genre but i am an animal so I thought I would give it a try and I couldn’t put it down.

Such a lovely and thoughtful novel that any dog lover is sure to enjoy. Molly proves herself over and over by finding precious missing cats by using her extraordinary sense of smell. The investigations and stories are intriguing and so interesting to read. Molly's owner, Colin begins with pets to police dogs and beyond with a grouping of great pet stories. Very heartwarming and well written.
Colin Butcher is a real life "pet detective", which is about as far away from the Jim Carrey movie as you can possible imagine. Together with Molly, his rescue dog-cum-tracker, their mission is to reunite pet owners with their lost charges, most often cats. In his book, Butcher details his adventures with the titular pup, both the heartwarming successes and the disappointing endings.
Butcher, a former PI, is clearly well skilled in his trade and his methodology is easy to follow. Reading about Molly's introduction to his line of work, her training, and eventual first success was quite fun, and it's clear from the narrative how much Butcher cares not only for her as a "worker", but as a pet as well. Butcher's insistence on finding a rescue dog for the job was welcome, as are his thoughtful insights on dog and cat behavior that he's gleaned throughout his career.
It's always nice once in a while to indulge my love of animals and read something a bit more lighthearted than my typical fare. Molly satisfied that and then some, and is highly recommended to dog and cat lovers.
**I was given a copy of this book by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Celadon Books.**
What a cute book! I really enjoyed this one. It was an easy read. I was able to read it in about a day and a half while at the doctors office with my father. Spaniels are so smart and i really enjoyed hearing of Molly’s training and experiences. It was nice that they didn’t just mention the success stories but also mentioned the failures. Made it seem more realistic. Loved this book. Now follow them on social media.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
As a huge dog lover, I couldn't resist requesting this book. And I wasn't a bit disappointed. I absolutely loved this book. The author did a great job writing this book. And I'm so very happy that he trained a rescue dog rather than buying a dog from a breeder.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves animals, especially dogs.
