Thank you Netgalley and Publishers for the advanced copy.
First of all, the story was very interesting. Such a fresh concept: solving crimes to prove the ‘monster’ (siren) innocence, it’s like a reverse Scooby Doo. Let’s get one thing straight: I love anything siren or mermaid. Maybe I’m not reading the right YA books but I always wish there was more mythical beasts and creatures highlighted- so this novel didn’t disappoint in that regard.
However, I did feel that Songs of the Deep fell flat in the wow factor. I had hoped for more siren action, but was left a bit disappointed The protagonist was OK. I have to say, I liked Jude a fair bit more than Moira. Though, sometimes they both seemed so…. Oblivious? Let’s just say I didn’t get very invested in them. The relationship wasn’t my favourite but by all means was not the worst I have ever read. Like other reviewers have said, Moira comes across a little bit cold, perhaps if she didn’t I would have liked the relationship aspect more.
All in all, I enjoyed how the mystery played out- and it kept me hooked reading and trying to figure it out. I would still recommend this to students if it was in my library, as I believe they might like it more than myself.

Excellent novel. If I’m not mistaken this is part of a series and maybe I should of read the other books first because I spent a majority of my time reading this confused.
However it was incredibly well written and an excellent read.
