So…. would I be #DeadWrong to say WTF?! Women disappearing two years previous with a man confessing to their murder at the time, them turning up being killed whilst said male is incarcerated?!? WTAF???! Seriously? Talk about a #countdownconundrum!!! Maggie and the team have a massive case to crack on their plate!

Is this a case of a miscarriage of justice which could end the amazing Maggie Jamieson’s career or is there more to the case than meets the eye? Is Bill Raven so seriously f…. messed up that he would confess to such heinous crimes?! I’ve got to say I was in serious doubt of what happened two years ago. Did Maggie really get the interview process wrong? She doesn’t think so and I want to believe her after the events of #DeadInside. But the evidence is compelling…

Ms Holten has crafted a seriously twisted crime thriller that made me question the scruples of the darling of the series. The intricacies of the appeal process and the separate investigation in to the newly found bodies makes for a complex intertwined tale with the psychological element of the thought process of Bill Raven…

But oh my life!!!!!!! I left stunned by the ending! I need book three!!!! Stat!!!! Noelle, One More Chapter!!!!!!! Your public needs book three!!!!!

5☆ A Twisty, Gripping, Dark, Engrossing Crime Thriller. A Must Read!

Dead Wrong is the second book in this Twisty and dark crime thriller, that I couldn't put down!
I have had the pleasure of reading the first book, but you can read this one as a standalone without any issues.

DS Maggie Jamieson has been called back again to work a tense and complicated case, that she had previously worked on. But this time brings a whole new twist to the case!

You see two years ago her team put twisted psychopath and serial killer Bill Raven, ‘The Chopper’, behind bars.
The remains of his victims were never found but he named them.

So why is it that the body parts of one of his victims 2years ago has just appeared in a rubbish bin.
Raven couldn't possibly of done the murder as the death was as recent as 2 days prior and Raven was still in prison!

So what the hell is going on?
Could it be that Bill Raven was wrongly convicted or is there a copycat killer or something worse?

Once again Noelle Holten has written an absolute gem of a crime thriller.
It's twisty, fast paced, gripping, dark, gritty, a race against the clock, cat and mouse thriller that had me on tender hooks.
The police procedural was brilliantly plotted.
The plot had me gripped and intrigued as to what on earth was going on. Exactly how I love my crime thrillers to be, keep me guessing and on my toes!
It was good to revisit the characters and watch them develop and grow in strength.

It's hard to believe this is just Noelle Holten second novel and she's already becoming one of my favourite Authors.
So if you haven't yet read Holten's books..... then what are you waiting for?
Pick up a copy of Dead Wrong, You won't be disappointed!

Thank you to Sarah at Book On The Bright Side for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Having read and enjoyed Dead Inside, I was looking forward to reading the second book in the series. I picked up Dead Wrong to read a few chapters, and ended up reading over half of it in one sitting. Really good pacing and an interesting story kept me turning those pages.

DC Maggie Jamieson will have to face the worst fear of any police officer in this case, not knowing if the culprit you put in prison was innocent or guilty. Ready?
Reading a case with Maggie always means an interesting and surprising case, she is intelligent and always trusts her instincts, even if it means that she will have to investigate more till she discovers all the dark secrets of the case. Because since the beginning in this case Maggie knows that Bill Raven can not be innocent, even if the victims seem to have killed while he was already in prison… so this will mean that there’s an accomplice or something much worst. Don’t try to guess, simply start reading!
I’ve always been interested to know what happens if a person who has been in prison for a while and has been pronounced guilty, when there are new clues in the case and the police start doubting of their involvement in it; what do they do and how they proceed about it. This had been revealing and interesting, also I had some good answers for my questions too!
I’ll admit that Noelle Holten does an amazing work with her books, the police procedure is interesting and detailed, giving the reader an insight on how police officers work without any boring situation and almost being part of the case.
This is the second book of the series DC Maggie Jamieson, you can read it as standalone, but the story is so good that I would start with the first one. Don’t get me wrong, the connection between the characters is fully detailed and you don’t miss anything, but you’ll love so much this book that I would suggest you to start from the beginning.
Ready for Dead Wrong?

I enjoyed this book, even with all the craziness going on with the virus.
I like Maggie's character and the occasional banter with her Sergeant Nathan, they do drink lots of coffee!
The baddie was a dark soul and I feel that we will hear a lot more from him which I look forward to.

Noelle Holten what have you done to me!! How could you do that?! Dead Wrong kept me on my toes throughout with some very dark and disturbing scenes plus the mother of all cliffhangers which had me screaming “NOOOOOOOO!!!!” as soon I had had read that final sentence. I mean, no sooner had I finished book two in this series then I wanted book three in my hands IMMEDIATELY!! And that’s the sign of a GREAT series!

We are back with DC Maggie Jamieson in Staffordshire where she is called upon to solve a murder. Nothing unusual in that for a police officer you might say but wait until you realise that the dead woman is Lorraine Rugman, the victim of a serial killer already behind bars for that murder! This means that he couldn’t have committed the crime that he’s been put away for and it’s up to Maggie and her team to work out what the hell is going on! It also becomes a race against time to find the other women he was accused of murdering before they really ARE killed!

It was lovely to see the team back together again, even (and especially!) the lovely Doctor Kate, and this mix of characters works really well here. We find out more about Maggie and her personal life as an aside to the main focus so I discovered that I like her even more than I thought I did! She’s certainly a determined and strong minded woman but I felt I understood her a little more this time and that there’s a softer side she keeps well hidden from her colleagues at work. But it’s the vile villains who steal the show here and I can’t believe I didn’t work out who was at the centre of this intriguing plot until the big reveal hit me in the face. Be warned though that, if you’re a little squeamish, there are some quite graphic descriptions of the crimes committed but gory definitely fits the plot here!

Dead Wrong has a well written, gripping and compelling storyline from start to finish. I loved it and I can see that Noelle has used her background and knowledge to create a believable main character who’s fast becoming a real favourite, not just for me but for crime fans worldwide. Highly recommended by me!

A gritty and dark police procedural. Noelle Holten has crafted another addictive and compelling tale. This is the second book in this series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone; the focus is on Maggie a police detective rather than Lucy a probation officer. Serial killer Bill Raven is behind bars convicted of killing three women. But now he is retracting his confession. And when a body of one of his victims shows up and forensics show that she was killed only two days ago things start to go sideways. How could he have killed this girl when he was in jail? DI Maggie Jamison is beside herself, how could she have possibly got this so wrong? What follows is a fast paced twisted tale of cat and mouse.

Maggie Jamison is an interesting character and we did get a little glimpse into her personal life. But I have to admit I am looking forward to getting to know her better throughout the series. Bill Raven is the perfect disturbed and deranged killer that you do not want to have unleashed on the public. The short chapters kept this story moving at the perfect pace. The mystery was clever and well constructed, definitely kept me guessing. The ending made me gasp and want more! Another stellar edition to what looks like is going to be an excellent crime thriller series.

*** Big thank you to One More Chapter for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

Two years have passed since twisted psychopath Bill Raven had been convicted for the kidnap and murder of three women. Despite the lack of any bodies, the CPS had been happy with the evidence that the police had gathered plus Raven had confessed to the crimes. Only now, his conviction has been thrown into doubt after the discovery of some severed limbs that have been forensically linked to one of his victims. This new evidence gives Raven the opportunity to launch an appeal against his conviction and as each day passes it begins to look increasingly likely that he may be set free. Suddenly DS Maggie Jamieson finds herself thrust into the media spotlight and her competence to do her job being called into question. Did she help to convict an innocent man? But then why would someone confess to crimes that he didn't commit?

With DCI Hastings on the warpath and putting DI Rutherford under constant pressure for results, Maggie and the team find themselves in a deadly game of cat and mouse with more than one cunning killer. It's obvious that someone has been holding the women captive for the last two years but the longer it takes the team to find the killer, the less chance they have of finding any of the victims alive.

This gripping thriller is voiced from the perspectives of Maggie, DR Kate Moloney, DI Rutherford and Bill Raven. DC Maggie Jamieson is a very likeable, complex character, she can also be very stubborn and always stands behind her convictions despite the doubts of others. I loved the realistic interactions between Maggie and her brother Andy and her struggles with her feelings for Kate. As well as dealing with the pressures of the case, Maggie also had to deal with her colleague Nathan's promotion to acting DS. Would his promotion have a detrimental effect on their close working relationship? I had no idea how DI Rutherford dragged herself into work every morning what with the the police being vilified by the press, the case resembling a endless maze with lots of dead ends and no exit signs and a stubborn DC who was constantly coming up with theories and connections that no one else on the team including DI Rutherford were seeing. Kate was also having to deal with her own personal dilemma, she had a stalker who kept sending her mysterious notes and then upped the anti by sending her a parcel. I was a bag of nerves whilst she was opening that parcel due to a thread that was running through the main story. Narcissistic Bill Raven was a seriously unlikable character who made my skin crawl every time he made an appearance. I really really wanted Maggie to get an opportunity to wipe the self satisfied, smug look off his gloating face. Some characters that we were introduced to in the previous book Dead Inside also made an appearance in this book including Mark, Lucy and Sarah Hardy.

Dead Wrong is a extremely well written, intricately plotted, addictive thriller that draws the reader into the characters fictional world and has you frantically turning the pages. It is difficult to believe that this is only Noelle Holten's second book, her writing is so slick and smart and she is obviously a very talented author. There was some very unexpected twists and turns and as for that ending, I nearly dropped my kindle in shock and ended up sitting in my comfy chair for at least ten minutes doing a very bad impersonation of OMG cat. I mean....talk about mind blowing. I can't wait for book 3 in this brilliant series. Very very highly recommended

This is my first read by Noelle Holten and I certainly wasn’t disappointed, this is one of my favourite genres and am always delighted to stumble across a new series to add to my list.

This is the second book in the Maggie Jamieson series and although I believe you can read this as a stand alone, I will be going back to the read the first instalment “Dead Inside”, it may just give me that extra bit of clarity!

Bill Raven confessed for murder of his own volition, now he is saying he is innocent and has launched an appeal. Maggie was part of the original team that helped put Raven in prison, did she put an innocent man away, her gut instinct screams absolutely no way, however, when the body of the one of the girls that Raven purportedly murdered turns up, forensics have discovered that she was murdered days ago and definitely not before Raven was put away.

Maggie is up against it, is it a copycat, the original killer, is Raven innocent, an absolutely gripping mystery thriller, it grips you from the getgo, so cleverly written, you don’t see the twists coming, this is one you will not want to put down. Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to more in this series.

read book one Dead Inside with Maggie Jamieson and I loved it so I was really looking forward to reading book two Dead Wrong. The author wrote this in such a way that I could visualise what was taking place.
Maggie is a fabulous likeable character. On the other side of the scale we have the hideous Bill Raven.

Dead Wrong has a great storyline that kept me glued from start to finish.

This is another superb read by this author. I’m so looking forward to reading more from her and hope we don’t have to wait too long

Noelle Holten's extraordinary debut, Dead Inside, must have been the most talked about book of 2019 so we were all on tenterhooks for book 2 in the Maggie Jamieson series after the cliffhanger ending left us hungry for more. Dead Wrong picks up where we left off with convicted serial killer, Bill Raven, launching his appeal and sending Maggie into turmoil.

Raven admitted to killing several women but claims that Maggie Jamieson coerced a confession out of him. When the dismembered body of a woman turns up who appears to have died recently, Maggie wonders how she got it so wrong when the woman is identified as one who Raven admitted to killing several years earlier. Even her colleagues seem to doubt that Maggie put the right man behind bars. As more bodies turn up, the police search for the killer but Maggie is sure that Raven is behind this somehow. Can she prove it before he is released from prison?

The procedural detail in Dead Wrong gives such an authentic feel to the story that I had to often remind myself that I was reading fiction and not true crime. It feels very true to life so it was quite bone chilling reading about the circumstances of the victims. I don't really want to delve too much into the brilliant plot but I think if I was Maggie, I would have struggled not to wipe the smirk off Raven's face with my right hook.

I felt we got to know a bit more about Maggie's personal life, or lack of, in this instalment; she seems to live for her job and constantly be on duty so puts aside any chance of her own personal happiness. Even her friendship with Dr Moloney, which could perhaps be more than friendship, revolves around work as they spend any time they have together discussing the case. Raven has definitely got under Maggie's skin so I'm not surprised that she can't think of anything but proving his guilt before he has the chance to appeal.

Without going into who or what, there's another little story running through Dead Wrong and as I was rapidly approaching the end, I was wondering how it would be resolved. With a gasp out loud to rival any that have gone before it, Noelle Holten has only gone and left us with the mother of all cliffhangers! So now I'm already biting my nails in anticipation of book 3.

Dead Wrong is so clever, crafty and compelling that Noelle Holten should be crowned Queen of Cliffhangers as well as Queen of Crime. Mark my words, the Maggie Jamieson series is going to go from strength to strength so grab a copy and introduce yourself to Maggie today.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This is a race against time to find the missing girls - if they're still alive. With the killer supposedly behind bars, it's clear that a second killer is on the loose. This fast-paced thriller gripped me from the start and I read it in two sittings. This time you really get to find out more about DC Maggie Jamieson, who we met in Noelle's first book, Dead Inside. This book has an ending that left me stunned - I absolutely was not expecting that and inside my head, I screamed at the book ' That can't be true'. Guess we'll have to wait for book 3 now! Cleverly done and left me desperate for more.

I was thrilled what I was given the chance to be part of the blog tour for this book. I read Noelle's first book, Dead Inside and absolutely loved it, a fantastic read from start to finish, this means I was sooooo excited to read this the 2nd book in this series.
I love how the first book was Lucy's story where this book is more Maggie's story. That said I would read these books in order.
Considering this is only the authors second book it's written like it's been done by a life long author, Noelle being a reader, blogger and now Author really knows what is needed to grab the reader in, keep hold and spit them out at the end exhaused and needing more.
DC Maggie Jamieson really does have her work cut out for this case. When serial killer Bill Raven comes back into her life it's unsure if Maggie can actually handle this one. Bill Raven is in prison after being found guilty of the murders of three women, these murders he actually confessed to. But when the body of one of these women turns up it's clear that he couldn't have killed her as he said he did as she'd only just been recently killed and Bill Raven was inside. Maggie really has her work cut out and at times doubts herself. But she is certain she has the correct killer behind bars. 'isn't she'
Maggie can't comprehend the possibility that she has the wrong person locked up, but if he didn't do the crime why did he confess.
A brilliant story line that you can really get into, this book makes you need to keep reading, I couldn't wait to actually find out what had gone wrong, what had happened and more so what had Maggie done. The excitement builds the more you read, it's exciting and breath taking, at times I had to stop and tell myself to breathe.
I can not wait to see what is in store for us in book 3, wow, wow, wow. Noelle has set the barr high with this one, can she smash book 3, can't flipping wait.

Well, after totally loving the first DI Maggie Jamieson novel, Dead Inside, (Check out my review here) there was no way I was turning down the chance to join the tour for Dead Wrong.

Warning! Do not begin this book if you have somewhere to be within a few hours. Seriously! Once you start it will take over your life.

Years ago Bill Raven was convicted and sentenced for the murders of several women. So why are their body parts suddenly appearing? Was he wrongly accused or is there something more sinister at play? DI Maggie Jamieson is in a race against time to solve the crime before more bodies turn up.

The plot is fast paced and addictive. It keeps you holding your breath until the very end. The planning and details are flawless and you gain a real sense that Noelle has researched and planned to perfection.

The character of Maggie is extremely well developed. We see her as a brilliant and highly pressured detective, dealing with the fact that she may have gotten something so very wrong two years ago but also as a woman. A woman with a love interest, family and friends and her own struggles outside of work. She’s such a three dimensional and ‘real’ character with elements that most of us can relate to.

For me, people scare me more than things that go bump. When a character comes along that is so real and so unimaginably manipulative and wrong then I love it (Don’t judge). It mustn’t be easy to write such depraved characters and delve into the parts of the human psyche we like to think are only in films but Halton does this and makes it so real it’s terrifying.

My advice, grab this book and hide under the covers with it. You won’t be sorry. See you on the other side!

Dead Wrong by Noelle Holton
DC Maggie Jamieson #2

You know you put the bad guy behind bars where he will rot forever and have tried to forget all about him only to see him front and center in the latest news appealing his conviction. You know he is not innocent but how to prove it...especially when women he says he killed a few years ago start showing up dismembered. That is DC Maggie Jamieson’s job and she is very good at her job!

This was the first book I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I missed out on the first one but was fully able to read and enjoy this one without having that one first even though I have the feeling that in book one she worked with a different police group than she worked with in this book. I believe I have found a new author that will provide thrills and chills and wonderful police procedurals for me to read and look forward to doing so as soon as she has them written.

What I liked:
* Maggie: focused, intelligent, dedicated, good at what she does – she cares about family, friends and those she seeks justice for.
* Andy: her brother – would like to know more about him
* Her teammates – I have a feeling that as the series progresses more will be learned about each one of them.
* Police procedural sussing out of what the truth of the matter in this case really was
* The potential for romance
* Dialogue between characters
* It seemed believable
* The creep-factor of the crime
* That the perpetrators of the crime, most of them, are brought to justice

What I did not like:
* The evil ones – there were a few
* Knowing that crime exists and that no doubt this story is the tip of the iceberg
* Having to wait for book three

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to the author who gifted me a copy of her book through BOTBS Publicity – This is my honest review.

4-5 Stars

I thought Noelle Holten’s debut novel, which I read last year, was brilliant, but I think her second book, Dead Wrong, is even better. Noelle left us on a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of the first book in the series, and when I got to the end of her latest, I couldn’t help but think oh my god, I can’t believe what I’m reading. She is definitely the kind of writer whose books you’ll want to be jumping to the moment they’re released as you’ll want to know what happens next. This can be easily read as a stand-alone, however, so it isn’t necessary to read the first book, but I would highly recommend reading it as well.

The end of the previous book, sees DC Maggie Jamieson being notified that a case from her past is about to come back and haunt her. The resurfacing of an old case does leave Maggie in an uncomfortable position that sees her career put at risk. Maggie takes a much more centre stage in Dead Wrong. In the last book, Noelle focussed the story a lot more on probation officer Lucy Sherwood, and she used her own knowledge of this profession.

In an earlier case in her career, Maggie was responsible for locking up Bill Raven, a man convicted for a string of murders, handing him a life prison sentence. But Maggie’s work on the case is thrown into doubt when the body of one of Bill’s victim’s turns up, and it seems that he couldn’t have killed her as he would have been in prison at the time. Bill launches an appeal to be released, and Maggie is determined to make sure he stays behind bars. But it seems as though she is fighting a losing battle and it is getting ever closer to the dangerous possibility of Bill being released. But is he innocent or is he guilty?

I did not like Bill Raven from the first moment Noelle introduces us to him. He is a cold and calculating individual, and he knows how to mould a situation. It was also the way he spoke to Maggie that gave me shivers, and I was rooting for her to find the evidence to keep him in his place. When I could see what sort of a person he was, I was really hoping that Maggie could succeed, but I also thought that she could be hindered by those who are ranked above her in the police.

I really liked Maggie’s working relationship with police officer, Nathan Wright, and I also liked the growing relationship between her and Dr Kate Moloney. I didn’t particularly get on with DI Rutherford, but I think this was because of the restraints she was trying to put on Maggie when Maggie wanted to speak to Bill Raven. I couldn’t believe that she was trying to distance Maggie from doing this, and this made me gripped to the plot all the more as I waited to see what the outcome was going to be. Noelle Holten cleverly weaves the answers into the story, and I thought it was very well-plotted.

Noelle Holten keeps the pace flying forward which and she does this using short chapters which keep you reading on to the next.

Dead Wrong is an exciting addition to the DC Maggie Jamieson series, and after that final chapter I’m waiting with bated breath for the next one to be released, don’t leave us waiting too long, Noelle.

5/5 Stars - I’m still processing that ending!

(This is the second book in a series, but I was able to read it as a standalone with no problems.)

Wow. I liked the book before I got to the end, but then that last chapter.....Can I read the next one tomorrow PLEASE?! I can’t wait! Take this as a warning: you will be last gasping and clambering for the next in this series!

Anyways, this was a really suspenseful book with a unique twist: the crimes were solved by the police through a detailed confession, or so they thought. Now that the crimes are repeating themselves, there’s a race to find out what the heck is going on and whether the creepy, charismatic guy behind bars is somehow involved. It was a great mystery with some nice twists in there.

I also really liked Maggie as a character. She’s stubborn, dedicated, loving - a very complex character with a good heart that you can root for. It was great to see her work out everything, with a little help from her team, of course, and I really liked them too.

Overall, this is 100 percent a series that I will be looking for as it goes forward and I can’t wait to see where everything goes.

DC Maggie Jamieson is back with Major and Organised Crime after a secondment at the Domestic abuse unit and on a cse that could ruin her career. Parts of a recently killed body have been discovered but they are identified as belonging to a woman who was supposed to have been killed a while ago by Bill Raven, a man who Maggie helped to imprison after he confessed to multiple murders. Even though no bodies were found his confession was detailed enough that he was prosecuted and convicted.
Now Raven is appealing his conviction and after the recent discovery the police are worried he could be set free. Maggie is still convinced he was involved and has a race against the clock to find out if he did kill the women or if he was working with someone else.
Working with criminal profiler Kate and under the ever watchful eye of DI Rutherford Maggie has to try to forget what she feels and concentrate on the evidence.

I really struggled with this book, it took me weeks to finish! I didn't like how ever chapter ended with a short statement and the story seemed to take an age to get going.

Maggie was a really unlikable character, and I don't understand the "thing" with the cat...

This is the second in a crime thriller series featuring DC Maggie Jamieson. This installment has her returned to Stafford Police Station after a secondment in the Domestic Abuse and Homicide Team (DEAD INSIDE - BOOK #1) that ended the career of the criminal known as The Chopper -- Bill Raven -- who was convicted and now serving life in prison. Back with the team at the Major and Organized Crime Department, she finds that Raven has suddenly claimed his innocence in the death and dismemberment cases and may now be released. In addition, she's being accused of coercing testimony. Of course she's livid as she knows she had him dead to rights, but his solicitor has filed an appeal. Before that can get off the ground, a bag of body parts is found in a bin and the female is identified as Lorraine Rugman, the woman Bill Raven had claimed killing in what he is now calling a confession drug from him during a drug induced psychosis. Soon, two other body bags are found and, with Raven behind bars, some think that he may be innocent after all. But not Maggie Jamieson who is convinced that he's involved despite forensics showing that the women found were recently killed. So who is killing these women two years after Raven initially claimed he'd done it? It can't be Raven as he's been locked up, coming off heroin, and getting treatment from the prison psychologist. Now, it's up to Maggie and the rest of the team to find the real killer and tie Raven to the crimes. NO SPOILERS.

This was straight-forward police procedural and the narrative moves between different points of view as the case is worked. I didn't find myself becoming particularly attached or interested in any of them as all are fairly one-dimensional. A disconnect occurs because, although Maggie is a DC, it seems like she leads the others around almost taking charge of the case and everyone just lets her. There is very little about anyone's personal lives in the story, but Maggie's bisexuality is mentioned as almost an aside with nothing ever coming of any romance within. The DI allows Maggie a lot of leeway and eventually the case is solved and it's proved that Maggie was right about her theories of course and not much of a surprise. It all ends rather quickly without much explanation of the relationship between Raven and the killer. I'm over him so I hope we're done with all that and can move on to something more interesting hinted at by the cliffhanger ending. All in all, there was just nothing much new here to separate this from the standard detective series so I truly hope that, in future books, Maggie becomes more three-dimensional. I will definitely want to read #3 to see.

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter (HarperCollins Publishers) for this e-book ARC to read and review.
