Bill Raven has been behind bars for adducting and killing women and then...body parts of one of those women are found scattered in town. DC Maggie Jamieson has to find out what's going on - and fast- because Raven (a truly loathsome awful man) is arguing to be freed. Does he have an accomplice? It certainly appears that way so what did the original team miss? There's a race against tine here and Holton does a good job with keeping the suspense going. No spoilers for this well done procedural that will appeal to those who enjoy strong female protagonists (and a good team). It's the second in the series but would read well as a standalone. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Looking forward to the next one!=

I didn’t read the first one in the series but felt it worked well as a stand alone.
However, it didn’t really float my boat - I didn’t click with the main character, her relationships and background stayed flat for me, and for an experienced investigator who is getting free rein to do as she pleases (presumably because she’s so good) she is pretty immature.
The plot itself (and the villain) are solid police procedural fare if not particularly original.
The ending was a pleasant surprise with its well set up cliff hanger but I’m not sure I’m invested enough to find out what happens next.
However, as I can see that I’m in the absolute minority, I’m sure plenty of people will enjoy this book and it will do very well.

This was the second book in the series which started with Dead Inside. The book read very differently to the first, both being excellent examples of crime writing. I love the character of Maggie, who dominates both books. She is a hard talking, takes no prisoners kind of person. What she thinks she says. I imagine working with her you would either love or hate her. There are no shades of grey with Maggie. She continues to spar with Raven who we met in the first book. Their psychological game playing scenes are great to read. There are a lot more gore laden scenes in this book, but all are necessary. It is very fast paced, and delightfully the reader is able to put together the clues and make their own guesses as to what has happened and who is involved. The end of the book is a real shock. It will leave readers stunned until they can get their hands on the next book in the series. Absolutely brilliant.

I hadn't read Book 1 but it didn't negatively impact my jumping into the series with book 2. There is enough back story explained that I was easily able to pick it up.
As for the story ... the author has created a truly creepy character in Bill Raven, a man behind bars for confessing to three murders. The only problem is that the bodies are just beginning to turn up now, two years later and freshly murdered. DI Maggie Jamieson is a wonderful character, feisty and outspoken and prepared to follow through on the courage of her convictions. She caught Bill Raven and his confession to her resulted in a successful conviction, but now the conviction looks set to be overturned, and there is still a murderer on the loose.
This book had me turning pages until the wee hours because I had to know how it finished. And, without spoilers, the ending made me gasp.
This is the first book I've read by Noelle Holten and it won't be the last!

Another great read from Noelle Holten.
I loved Dead Inside and this one is even better.
DC Maggie Jamieson was involved in putting away Bill Raven for murder but he’s put in an appeal and there’s a chance he may be innocent.
Maggie is adamant he’s guilty but when the body parts of one of the women he’s accused of murdering turn up he’s using it to his advantage. The forensics show she was killed days ago rather than years, which is how long Raven has been inside, so who is responsible?
Maggie’s boss initially warns her off pursuing the link to Raven but later comes round to her way of thinking.
This is a gripping crime thriller that is very cleverly written. And as for the ending......
I look forward to reading the next book in this series as I really need to know what happens next!
Thanks to Harper Impulse and Killer Reads and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

With thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC.
DC Maggie Jamieson returns in the 2nd book in the series.
A few years ago Jamieson put away Bill Raven after he admitted to the murder of several woman. The bodies were never found but his confession was enough to put him in jail.
Now, the bodies start turning up in various states of dismemberment. They are all recently deceased so Raven couldn't have killed them as he is in jail.
He applies to the courts for his release.
Jamieson is convinced Raven is involved so she is racing against the clock to find the evidence to connect him and catch his accomplice who is murdering the women.
Tense, exciting and very well written, what's not to like?
Great read.

The second book by Noelle Holten brings DC Maggie Jamieson head to head with her nemesis and character mentioned throughout book 1, serial killer Bill Raven.
This story feels a bit bigger and longer than the first, an author growing in confidence, Maggie Is a little more to the forefront this time.
A page turning , well crafted thriller with a killer twist.

A great read. In this second book in the series we learn more about DC Maggie Jamieson. A serial killer, Bill Raven is in prison after confessing to the murders of three women. One of the bodies has recently been found, but she only died two days ago. This is a gripping thriller, with time running out as Raven has appealed against his conviction. I raced through this book as I couldn't wait to find out the outcome. So looking forward to the next book in this thrilling series.

A great who dunnit. Noelle Hilton has written a fabulous police / crime novel. Keeps you gripped to the end.
This book is second in a series. I never read the first book but it certainly didn’t stop me from enjoying this.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review.

The second book in the Maggie Jamieson series. As a second book this wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting the same type of story where Maggie still worked for the department she was in the first book.
In this book she returns to her original department which seems at first a struggle for her. She has to push things from the get go as she isn't known as much anymore and has to prove her worth.
That happened quickly when a case she worked on years ago resurfaces and with inferences to her not really doing her job the first time around.
The book was solid and had a lot going for it. Who doesn't love a serial killer book though this one seems to be more rooted in a wrongful conviction.
Her and the team she is with must piece together different clues and try to figure out just what happened years ago and how to protect people in that area.
I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to read this book as an arc as I see so much growth in the author and this book has the really great capacity for further books in the series. I am hope there is more many many more

Oh, my. This is embarrassing. I quickly scrolled down the web page of reviews already submitted on this book, and it was a long, straight column of 5 stars, one review after another. So what did I miss?
I've previously posted a couple hundred reviews on this site, and have always been able to list the numerous strengths of a book before I move on (if necessary) to the elements that didn't work. I can't do that in this case.
The preposterous idea that a newbie detective constable -- on the lowest rung of a British investigative team's ladder -- could be given such free rein on the very most crucial tasks of a major case stopped me in my tracks and shattered any hint of credibility for the entire story.
Here's just one of my Kindle notes: "A lowly DC runs rings around her higher ranking teammates and stuns everyone with her keen insights and piercing intuition -- all relayed in a breathless, run-on narrative style."
Every reader wants to suspend disbelief and enjoy the story. I couldn't. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance readers copy.

This book was fantastic. Noelle's writing just keeps better and better. I am desperate for the next book after that shocking ending!
Outstanding!

I raced through Dead Wrong in a matter of hours, unable to turn the pages quick enough. Make no mistake - Noelle Holten has done it again!

I’d like to thank One More Chapter and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Dead Wrong’ by Noelle Holten in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
DC Maggie Jamieson helped put serial killer Bill Raven in prison for the abduction and murder of three women and he admitted killing them although their bodies were never found. Now, just as Raven is appealing to be released citing unlawful imprisonment, one of the bodies is found dismembered and dumped in and around Stafford. The only problem is that the woman died just two days ago, and Raven can’t have been involved as he’s in prison.
‘Dead Wrong’ is the second thriller in the DC Maggie Jamieson series and is every bit as gripping and tense as the first one. The plot is well written, there’s plenty of excitement, drama, action, suspense and a few twists and turns. I like the characters of Maggie, Nathan Wright who’s been promoted to acting DS, their boss DI Rutherford, and Psychotherapist Dr Kate Moloney, a friend of Maggie’s who’s been enlisted to help prove Raven’s involvement, who all gel together to make a successful investigative team. Just as they believe they’ve solved the case there’s a shocking ending which leaves a cliffhanger for, hopefully, the third part of the series. Although I preferred it when Maggie was working with the probation service, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading Noelle Holten’s second novel which I found hard to put down and can definitely recommend it.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this fast moving book
raven a convicted murder, or is he
maggie jamieson the dc who convicted him
but now body parts are turning up of the woman that raven has said he murdered three years ago... but these body parts were alive not that long ago
can maggie and her team find the evidence needed to keep raven in jail and find out where the other women are before their bodies are cut up
oh and that ending...nasty
really enjoyed this one cant wait for the next one now, brilliant

So, Maggie Jamieson is back in the follow up to ‘Dead Inside’ with this the 2nd book in the series, this book can be read as a stand alone but I think if can be it is good to have read ‘Dead Inside’ as it is a continuation of that book
This book is more of a police procedural than a ‘inside look’ at the probation service and focuses on Maggie as the main character but has the same amount of thriller and suspense in the story
Its a mystery solving story and Maggie will not give up on her intuition and her ‘whoever she pleases or offends doesn’t bother her’ attitude again reigns supreme throughout and I like her for that
I enjoyed her brother being in the story and it showed a different side to Maggie in her interactions with him
The ending is a ‘proper’ Oooooooooo twist and did surprise me, will say no more!!
A good follow up and look forward to Book 3

Another superb book from Noelle!
Such a good, twisty storyline that will make you want to read in one session!

A thrilling and gritty police procedural, "Dead Wrong" is the second book in a series by Noelle Holten though it works well as a standalone. Short chapters help make it a fast-paced read and I found it hard to put down, reading it in one sitting. Holten's professional criminal justice knowledge shines through and I learned a new term - geographical profiling. Protagonist Maggie Jamieson is a realistic, down-to-earth character and I look forward to reading more about her in the future. And after THAT ending, I can't wait to get my hands on the next instalment!

My Rating 4.5 Stars
Maggie Jamieson is back in the second book of a thrilling series. This time she is ensconced in the domestic abuse team and her current case is a doozy. She has a dual battle on her hands. Locate a brutal killer and determine the deep and ugly truth by being forced to consult with a killer who is in prison, Bill Raven. Yes, completely disturbing as Raven has zero remorse for the despicable crimes he committed.
While being focused on one murder, that of a woman Raven is responsible for killing, Maggie is forced to dig much deeper. Not only is Raven is appealing the courts in order to go free, there is clear and disturbing evidence that leads Maggie and her team to wonder if he has an accomplice. Can they put a stop to these gruesome murders and will the courts do their due diligence and keep this unrepentant and dangerous man behind bars?
I met Maggie in the first book of this series, Dead Inside. Maggie's past was incredibly horrid but she rose above the ashes and has made tremendous advances as she deals with unspeakable horrors, yet always showing remarkable resilience. Dead Wrong takes readers further with Maggie's growth and strength. Noelle Holten did a fabulous job for her sophomore book. I was riveted from start to finish in this one-sitting read and am eager for the next book in the series.
Many thanks to Harper Impulse and Killer Reads and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

When serial killer Bill Raven came into the police station years ago he had a confession to make. He sang like a bird, naming three women that he said he had killed. Indeed they all turned out to be vulnerable drug addicts and sex workers, and yes they had all gone missing. It was off to jail for Bill Raven, quick as a flash despite the fact that no bodies had been found at that time. Fast forward a few years and DC Maggie Jamieson, who had worked the initial case that saw Bill Raven sent down for the spate of murders, is appealing his sentence, citing the reasons that he confessed to the slaughters when he was high on drugs himself, he was going through a psychotic episode too and was now sure that he was suffering from lucid hallucinations then and that he now knew that he was clean and innocent. Forced to endure a life without drugs, booze and women, he was both clean and clear-minded.
The case was reopened and Maggie had to face up to the fact that the popular press were vilifying her and calling her out as having put an innocent man in gaol. It couldn’t get much worse and Maggie had to face the music. The evidence, it would appear was circumstantial and the appeal initiated by Bill Raven was to go ahead. Luckily her boss still supports her case and reassigns Maggie to the new investigation. Upon visiting Bill Raven in gaol, Maggie sees that he is basking in his new found fame and popularity with the media and is absolutely cocksure he will be cleared of the crimes and in due course would be released as fast as it takes to throw out the verdict. He is smug, upbeat and testing Maggie. She hates having to review the case because she remains confident he is indeed guilty.
Then the dismembered bodies of the dead women are gradually found one by one. Matters looked dire, because with Bill Raven banged up in prison he could not have murdered these women in a frenzied bloodbath, throwing their blood all over the walls and euphoric with his kill. The first corpse had only been dead for a mere two days. It certainly sets back the new investigation but methodically and meticulously, the web of lies is dismantled one by one. However, this second novel in the DC Maggie Jamieson crime thriller series can be sure that Maggie is never going to give up, as surely, resolutely and with dogged determination Maggie begins to unravel the tissue of lies, and the webs of deceit and builds a new case that will withstand the closest of scrutiny and prove that she, Maggie and her loyal team had actually in truth exposed the correct perpetrator of the heinous crimes that had shocked the nation. This novel follows the investigation that yields yet more bodies to add to the toll in horrific crimes that had occurred when Bill Raven was much younger.
Noelle Holten has undertaken lots of research to enhance her story and ensure it is believable and factually accurate. She is herself very familiar with the law. She has three honours degrees in Crime and Deviance, Philosophy and Community Justice as well as a Masters in Criminality. She has 18 years of experience in a professional role. Her writing is admirable and her characters are created with skill and variety. The evil characters are truly amoral and conniving but Maggie and her team are more than a match in detecting their lies. Her story is full of twists and turns, triumphs and setbacks and plenty of shocking and odious actions. The story flows and keeps you on your toes. I really enjoyed every last page and loved the short, brisk and exciting chapters flying onwards to a fantastic conclusion.
I was delighted to receive a copy of ‘Dead Wrong’ from NetGalley and publisher One More Chapter after requesting to review it and in return for an honest review. These are my own opinions and I have not read any other opinions before or after I read the story. Noelle Holten has both great talent and storytelling skills and I’m already looking forward to reading more novels in the DC Maggie Jamieson series.
