The ending was the best part of this book for me. The rest of the book was tedious with DC Maggie and criminal Raven playing cat and mouse. Maggie knew she had her killer and the whole book just solidified this. Not sure what Maggie ‘s brother contributed and her relationship with Kate was very adolescent for two intelligent women. I became confused at times with body parts, pig’s blood , and locations. I just was expecting more.

I loved my first encounter with DC Maggie Jamieson in Dead Inside, the first book in the series, so was great to be back again in this stand alone thriller which is the next in the series.

The case that Maggie is working on is certainly quite a complex one. It has her questioning herself as to whether she has put the wrong man behind bars. Bill Raven is a horrible character who reminded me of Hannibal Lector. He enjoys playing with Maggie’s mind and I have to say she is much more restrained than me as I wanted to grab hold of him a number of times and throttle some sense into him.

It really becomes a race against time for Maggie to find the killer. The pace and tension mounting throughout. There is also another thread that we see come into the story that definitely piqued my interest. This just added to an already gripping read that had me pounding away at my Kindle to turn the pages quickly so I could see how it was all going to end.

Dead Wrong is a superb second novel that I loved even more than the first. Which having loved the first also, is a big achievement in my mind. Detective series’ are definitely a firm favourite for me and this author adds her own take to it by letting the reader see a different side, making it fresh and stand out from the crowd. I just have to mention that ending! O…M…G did it send me hurtling off my seat. Needless to say, I need book three, like now. Right now!

I enjoyed the first book in this series, so jumped at the chance to read the second. Not only did it live up to the first, it managed to surpass it. The premise is a deliciously awful one: the victims of a serial killer DC Maggie Jamieson put away years ago suddenly show up in pieces, freshly killed. Did Maggie make a horrible mistake, or is something deeply nefarious going on? The premise pulled me in quickly, and the story kept me reading long into the night. I love Maggie's character--dedicated, tenacious, and willing to take whatever risks she needs to in order to get the job done. And just when things wrap up--BANG!--the ending leaves you breathlessly out on a ledge. I'll be first in line to read the next one...

OMG.. what a page turner!!!! I loved Noelle's debut Dead Inside but this follow up is absolutely fantastic! DC Maggie and her team come to life in this suberb thriller !

Dead Wrong is the second book in the DI Maggie Jamieson series, and I have read the first which I loved so, I was looking forward to reading this.
DCI Maggie Jamieson is back with her old team at Markston Police station after working with the Domestic Violence unit. When Serial killer Bill Raven is trying to appeal his sentence and roam free. But his victim’s body parts are being found dumped in black bags. DCI Jamieson wonders if Raven has an accomplice and goes all out to find out who his partner in crime is but, also to stop Raven going free and to stop any other bodies turning up.
This is another amazing instalment in the series with the quality of the writing and the research put into this book. This story has great characters with Maggie and her team and the creepy character of Bill Raven that makes you cringe when he talks about the murders. The book also keep you guessing right up to the end and what a cliff hanger? I will now have to in anticipation until the next book in this great series. Can’t wait.

In reading “Dead Wrong”, I have to admit to straying into a total new genre of reading – so I feel a bit of an outsider reviewing it. But I was curious… and I LOVE reading, so here is my honest review and I hope it serves a purpose. I know how much effort goes into creating a book.
The crimes are horrific in this story – pure evil and graphically described. On a couple of occasions, we get a glimpse of what is going on in the perpetrator’s head and that to me was almost more chilling than the actual murders – in the way that things can go so horribly wrong in bringing up children and perpetuating evil. Terrifying.
I like the main character, Maggie Jamieson – complex, normal and flawed all in one, bent on solving a crime that is bugging her. Who wants to follow a goodie-goodie for a whole book? Scrappy the cat was a cute addition and I feared for him when he disappeared (as cats do from time to time). Watch out for an interesting little twist at the end. (Incidentally, I hadn’t realised that “Dead Wrong” is a sequel. However, it stands alone perfectly well).
There was tension throughout the storyline as the team chased clues, suspects and red herrings and I liked the way it ended… with ambiguity and a question. (To be continued, surely).
It’s most likely because I’m not a regular reader of crime fiction, but at times I felt left behind. There were lots of characters to keep tabs on and loads of baffling abbreviations that lost me. Some were explained, some I guessed at but some I just couldn’t work out. For the newbie readers, maybe a list at the beginning of the book would be a good idea. I read in the acknowledgments that the author worked as a Senior Probation Officer for several years, and she obviously knows her stuff and I expect other crime readers do to, but the audience can always be widened.
I’m rating this 3.5 up to 4 stars and wish Noelle Holten the very best of luck with the sequel. Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read "Dead Wrong". This is my honest review.

OMG! Normally this sentence would come at the back of my review, but I just have to ask this question first : When does book 3 come out, please??? 

I loved the first book in the series, but I totally adored this one! I already thought this author did a very good job with her debut, but she tops it with this one.

She has created some awesome twisted minds, which I think is amazing and turns a story into a gem.

I was dragged into the book from the very beginning and it begged me to keep on reading, which was totally fine by me :)

At the end of a thriller, when everything is revealed, you don't have to hold your breath anymore and you can relax and put it out of your head ...

I loved it how my brain was in knots and doing overtime. I was rewarded with a brilliant read. 5 stars

This is Book 2 in the DC Maggie Jamieson series. The Author hit it out of the park with Book 1. This book is a bases loaded grand slam! When body parts turn up Maggie needs to determine if the killer she helped put in prison had a partner. A gripping, fast-paced read with an ending that has me needing Book 3 right now! I have a warning for the people who read the last page. DON'T DO IT! Thanks to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

I really enjoyed Noelle Holten's first novel and I was intrigued to see where the sequel would take the main character as I was curious at learning more about her. The second instalment was wonderfully tense and engrossing. It was difficult to pull myself away from the enfolding drama. The character development in this story is clearly evident and it does the author credit that you are pulled into Maggie’s believable world so swiftly.

I love the stylistic choice of hooking the reader with a tease of the next novel right at the end leaving you wanting more. It’s scintillating.

Noelle Holten smashed it last year with her debut, Dead Inside and Dead Wrong is an easy "nailing it" follow up this year.
The author has taken the police procedural genre and given it her own unique USP. Although the main character of the series is Detective Maggie Jamieson, we also become closely acquainted with the rest of the multi-disciplinary team across the force. In the real world the Police don’t work in a silo, they work alongside a number of other agencies such as probation, domestic abuse services and beyond and the author captures this perfectly in this series. With a whole host of characters who have their unique roles to play, we get to see police work from a completely different perspective than normal.
In Dead Wrong, Maggie Jamieson is leading the way and I loved getting to know more about her character. I felt a genuine connection with her, she has her crosses to bear that’s for sure, but she is no cliché detective. I warmed to her immediately and loved her relationships with the other characters in the book. There is a real authenticity about her as a character, she is filled with self-doubt at times and is always overthinking but she is also fiercely loyal and protective of her colleagues and friends. The friction with her superior, DI Rutherford, adds a tension to the working environment and again a great sense of realism as we all know that may workplace is not always sweetness and light! Yet despite this friction, Maggie can still look underneath the surface and show an empathy for her boss. If I was a detective, I reckon I’d want to be partnered up with someone like Maggie.
Maggie has been called back to her team as one of her previous cases, The Chopper aka Bill Raven has appealed his sentence. Now he is one bad guy and I mean BAD with a capital B! The author painted a picture of him and his interactions with Maggie and believe you me, it was not a pretty picture at all! He sends shivers down my spine and right back up again!
Andy, Maggie’s brother, is also back on the scene and staying with her. I know Andy isn’t a main character but again I get a real connection with him. I look forward to seeing the family dynamics develop in this series, as there are strong hints that family tensions run deep!
It’s good to see some characters from Dead Inside make an appearance, especially the brilliant Dr. Kate Maloney, one of my favourite characters in the books. The relationship between Maggie and Kate takes a new turn and I’m sure everyone is going to be on tenterhooks waiting for the outcome of this! And of course the wonderful Kat Everett is in there keeping it real, she really makes me smile!
The storyline moves along at a fast pace but not so fast that you are left breathless and confused. With plenty of action, tension and murder, there is something for every armchair detective to get their teeth into here. The murders described are chilling but never in a gratuitous fashion, just enough detail to make you make sure you lock all your doors at night and look out behind you when you’re out and about! One of the things I particularly like about this series is that the author gives the victims a voice, we get to know them as human beings and not just in terms of their addictions or vulnerabilities.
Noelle Holten has taken the police procedural out of its box and given it a bit of a prod with this series; her portrayal of the police as a cog in a very large system, the multi-agency approach, mixed with the human side of a cast of characters who could all easily have a spotlight shone on them in the series, provides you with a cracking good read that will engage you and leave you begging for more, especially when she ends on such a killer hook for the next in the series!

WOW! Another fabulous read from Noelle Holten. Dead Wrong is the second book in the DC Maggie Jamieson series, a firecracker of a read and a solid page-turner. In this second installment, the series starts with DC Maggie Jamieson’s new case involving a serial killer who has a penchant for drugging his victims and using dismemberment as a means to clean up his crime scene. Nicknamed “The Chopper,” his MO is strikingly similar to that of The Raven, someone Jamieson put behind bars a long time ago. But when another victim is found bearing his unforgettable hallmark, she doesn’t understand how he could be responsible.

There is so much wisdom in Holten’s writing. Her 18 years as a probation officer provide a good understanding of procedure and buffs up every twist and cliff hanger available. You feel as if you’re right there with Maggie and her team as she painstakingly pores through evidence, while The Raven, a monster and sadist, is appealing to be set free. You can’t help questioning whether Jamieson did, in fact, put away the right man. There are times when my brain started to work overtime, convinced that something wasn’t right. Who really is the master manipulator and who did commit these recent crimes?

Jamieson isn’t typecast. You can’t categorize her as a run-of-the-mill of crime fighter. She’s an independent, roll up your sleeves and get on with it type, even though there are small cracks in her armour. She is determined to crack a crime no matter what it takes, and with little home life to speak of, she is freer than most to achieve that goal. This characteristic is more common than people think for those working areas of justice and law enforcement. It require long hours and very little sleep, not something that pairs well with raising small children and nurturing a relationship. Without all that to clutter up the narrative, I found no distractions in the plot that other books of this type tend to use as fillers. Holten’s research and experience have given credence to the plot, giving the book the added depth most readers crave.

The support team working with Jamieson were invaluable. A special nod to Bethany, DI Rutherford, and DS Nathan. Although The Raven played Jamieson up to the bitter end, I knew she’d have him in an arm-lock in the nick of time. Kudos to Holten for writing such convincing characters who don’t deviate from their distinctive and arresting personalities. (No pun intended.)

Overall tension is further enhanced by assertive writing, well-plotted twists and a few red herrings along the way. The ending will leaving you gasping for the next book.

After reading Dead Inside, which was one of my favourite books from 2019, I’ve been waiting patiently for the second book Dead Wrong. The wait was worth it. Noelle has delivered another fantastic book which is just as enjoyable as the first. I loved the mix of Maggie working back at the station and using the domestic violence unit alongside them to help catch the perpetrator. Noelle writes real, believable characters and they draw you into the story. Great stuff.

Oh wow! Noelle Holten has followed up on her debut, Dead Inside with this cracker. Book 2 in the series picks up with DC Maggie Jamieson as she embarks on a new case involving a sadistic serial killer who drugs their victims before finishing them off in the most horrible way. The difference with this case though, is that Maggie thought she'd already put the killer, known as The Raven, behind bars a long time ago. Now the body of one of his victims has turned up, dismembered and only recently deceased. How could The Raven have been responsible? It's up to Maggie to find out. This book comes with all the twists and turns I've come to expect from Holten, and there's real knowledge behind her writing coming from her 18 years working as a probation officer. The end of this book comes with a shocking cliff hanger!! There HAS to be a book 3! For me personally, Book 1 just edged this one, but I still really enjoyed it and am looking forward to more.

I loved the first in the series and this one didn't disappoint, Noelle Holten certainly knows how to write a police procedural/ crime thriller. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down as the story is intriguing, to say the least. I had lots of theories but they were all wrong and the author kept me guessing right up to the end. I will definitely be looking out for the next in the series.
