Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
Great read! Looking forward to reading more from this author! I highly recommend this book and author to all!
Great book with huge twists inside. The story keeps you entertained and engaged. The characters are well rounded and easy to see as real people.
Really enjoyed this book. I wanted to see where it was going and the twist at the end was clever. Looking forward to reading more from the author!
If I had to pick one word to describe After You Fell it would be atmospheric. Gripping, dark, exciting, creepy…really, everything I wanted it to be. J.S. Lark has crafted a brilliant novel that I read in one sitting. I could not put it down.
I love everything about this novel. I’m having a hard time doing this review because I honestly just want to pick the novel back up. It’s so good. I think you should just take my word for it and grab yourcopy.
This novel is going on my favorites of 2019 list. Highly recommended!
The writing was superb in this book. I couldnt put it down. This book was so unpredictable which something I love ... I want to be able to not stop thinking about this book. It has a psychic /spiritual element to it so if you like that sort of thing you will love this book.
Terrific and thrilling! Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. Creepy and atmospheric as well. Can't wait to read more
This book was so good! Such a different read than many others in this genre. The storyline is original, its very well written and it is the perfect amount of creepy psychological thriller! Would definitely recommend.
This book is presented as thrilling and a page turner, but it just did not really do it for me. I wasn’t really hooked until close to the end when most of the plot twists finally came out. I did enjoy the idea behind the organ transplant, and Helen trying to connect with the family of the person she believed her heart came from. However, Helen’s character was annoying to me and her obsession with thinking that she had a “sixth sense,” which allowed her to feel what Louise was feeling kept me shaking my head at the absurdity of her character. I do realize that it makes sense with her diagnosis to become obsessive and think she can feel these things others can’t, but I felt myself cringing a lot of the time when she acted so stupid because she “felt things.” It is a good look at the mind of a person with mental health issues and there were some creepy parts throughout. I liked it well enough and appreciated the opportunity to read it, and think it would be great for someone who is just getting into the thriller genre.
Review for 'After you fell' by J.S.Lark
Read and reviewed via NetGalley
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I must say it certainly won't be my last. The storyline was brilliantly thought out and very unique which is just what I love in a book.
The story captured my attention from the beginning and continued to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the roller-coaster ride. A true page turner.
I would classify this book as a unique, dark psychological thriller with a touch of horror. It is filled with suspense, tension, questions and emotions. It made me ask questions all the way through until the completely unexpected explosive finale.
Bonus points for being set in the UK which is always a plus for myself living in Wales and for the unexpected ending.
The characters were very well described, as were all the locations, and strong, although I could have shouted at Helen on several occasions. The book was written from Helen's perspective which I enjoyed as I find myself more 'in' the story when it's written from a characters perspective rather than third person.
I highly recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers, suspense, paranormal, horror and anyone looking for a good page turner.

Well written captivating thriller.
Interesting storyline, well developed at a good pace, strong characters, good from start to finish.
Not boring at all!
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was a passable, if predictable thriller. Not a great read, but it moves along quickly enough and the characters are inoffensive.
I was describing the story to a colleague at work when I was just starting this, and she was positive that she had seen a film version of it. Although we eventually figured out it was a different, if similar plotline, this does very much have the feeling of a made-for-tv movie.
A creepy thought...the donor of your new heart is guiding you to solve her death. An excellent idea for a story line that JS Lark has built a really great thriller around. This was quick read for me. I got pulled in and didn't want to stop until the end. No spoilers, but you will love this book!
This was an excellent novel that I very much enjoyed. Strong.characters and a fascinating storyline make for an exciting read. Highly recommended.
I found this book quite strange and I couldn't get into the story . I eventually gave up on it. This one isn't for me .
After You Fell by J.S. Lark is a dark and disturbing tale of obsession that had me hooked from the very start.
Helen has received a life-saving heart transplant and becomes consumed with learning not only the identity of her donor, but the circumstances of her donor's death. She traces the heart to Louise, a woman whose cause of death, a fall from a carpark, remains contested by, among others, the family she left behind. Was Louise, in fact, suicidal, or had she been pushed over the railing by someone she knew quite well? Helen quickly insinuates herself into the lives of the husband and children Louise left behind, and her own motives become suspect in an already deeply disturbing mystery.
This is a unique and compulsive read that I would not hesitate to recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for this ARC.
Dark, shocking and unsettling, J S Lark’s After You Fell is a twisted and engrossing thriller full of danger, menace and suspense sure to keep readers guessing and on the edge of their seats from the first page till the very last word.
Everybody agrees that Louise Lovett’s death was an absolute tragedy. However, whilst everyone agrees that her passing was devastating, questions continue to arise about the circumstances of her death. What happened the day Louise died? Was Louise the victim of an unfortunate accident? Or is there something far more sinister going on that nobody had even considered? Was Louise pushed? And if that is the case, then who hated Louise so much that they would be driven to commit murder and shut her up for good?
Helen Matthews had been pulled from the brink of despair when she was given a new heart. A new donor heart beats inside her and her life has been saved, however, something is not quite right with Helen. She is unsettled and feels the pull of the previous owner and Helen cannot shake off this certain feeling that the heart’s previous owner has a message to pass on and a score that needs to be settled. As Helen begins to look into Louise’s life and the events before her tragic death, she becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth and her life begins to spiral out of control jeopardising the fragile new life which she is trying to build for herself.
Will the truth about Louise’s death ever be uncovered? Is Helen ready for the shocking secrets she is about to discover? And will the past ever be laid to rest?
After You Fell is a book that readers will simply not be able to stop reading. J S Lark hooks her readers from the off and keeps them riveted to the page desperate to find out what is going to happen next. Gripping, gutsy and gloriously addictive, After You Fell is a book that will make readers think, lose sleep and have them keeping the lights on for nights on end.
J S Lark is the pseudonym of acclaimed historical author Jane Lark and with her first thriller she has broken new ground, pushed the envelope and written a chilling tale readers will not easily forget.
Thank you Netgalley for this advanced reader's book. I savoured every word. I found myself holding my breath throughout. It genuinely deserves it's place in the thriller genre.
After You Fell is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you reading late into the night!
Once this is started theres no way to put it down. You need to find out how this story ends and I wasn’t disappointed!

As one life ends…. Louise Lovett’s death was a tragedy. But questions still swirl about exactly what happened to Louise that day. Did she fall or was she pushed?
A new life starts… Helen Matthews’ donor heart saves her life. But as her new life beats inside her, Helen feels the pull of its previous owner – despite what everyone is telling her, Helen is certain she has one final message to pass on.
And a dark obsession begins… as the lives of Helen and Louise become ever more entangled, Helen obsession gets increasingly out of control. And the fragile new life she has built begins to fall apart.
Well … what a surprising band enthralling story this was… I didn’t really take to Louise at the beginning of the book, I didn’t really like how she acted and felt .. I guess I just couldn’t connect with her at all ..
Helen however I connected to straight away, she did come across as an older lady to me until she stated her age and then I felt a little silly and embarrassed… kind of like how a shopkeeper may feel when they ask someone for ID that is more than old enough but looks younger.. I loved how connected Helen felt to the owner of her new heart and I loved the sixth sense she had … I do have a little myself but nothing like her.
This book most certainly lives up to its tag and is most certainly a thrilling and mysterious read.

Hi Ally,
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts, it makes such a difference for authors to have people take the time to read and talk about their work. I thought i would share a little something that I always think back to when I judge the age of characters. When my Grandma was ill and really not feeling well when I was in my 30s she spoke to me as though she was the younger person. That was the first time I really realised that people reach a mental age and never grow beyond that. Memories and experiences of the world you live in differ for generations, but emotional thoughts don’t tend to which is a princple I’ve applied in historical books. That’s why, I think, unless someone tells you an age you often don’t know the age if there is nothing generational to define it. So that’s something for me to think about, do I say earlier. But with Helen I did deliverately leave it open to let people read her as themselves 🙂
Thank you again,
x
Jane
