I wasn’t able to finish this book. Because of this, it is my policy not to review the book on my site or on Goodreads/Amazon. I also didn’t mark it DNF.

Theodora Fox must find her treasure hunter father. Unfortunately, all she has to go on are the fact that he was looking for a ring, his coded travel journal, and a boy she hasn’t seen in over a year. The ring has potential copies, so she can’t know which is the real one. She’s good at ciphers, so she has a chance to decode the journal. And she may actually be in love with Huck, but he broke her heart a year ago and she doesn’t know if she can get close to him again. This will not be an easy mission especially with the cultists and witches also chasing her. Jenn Bennett has taken a break from contemporary YA romance with this novel, but the strong characterization, witty banter, and beautiful scenery of her other books is still present here. While it has a slow buildup at the times, there is no shortage of action in this book. Readers will enjoy this wild ride of fantasy, magic, romance, and adventure.

This wasn’t quite my favorite (it got lost to my TBR and my tastes have changed.) but while this wasn’t for me, it was a lovely book overall

I love Jenn Bennett's adult books but have struggled with her YA books. With her YA books, I need to be in a specific mood for them and The Lady Rogue was no different. I got about 30% into my ARC before I put it aside for now. I was in one of those moods that wasn't letting me enjoy this book to the fullest. So I bought an ebook copy for myself and I will try this again once I'm in the mood for this kind of YA book. I will say that I did enjoy what I had read and will probably love it when I pick it up again.

Loved this historical romance by the Ya contemporary queen Jenn Bennet. A fun, engrossing story. Jenn creates characters to make you swoon and root for.

i enjoyed this but it just didn't leave a memorable impression on me where i am really struggling to find the words to review this two years later. but i appreciate you and everything this author does always.

I was not a fan of this book. I found the characters to be boring and the plot to be really slow. I had a lot of hope for this book. The premise sounded amazing but it just wasn't executed very well.

The Lady Rogue is pure entertainment throughout.. Fast-paced, easy to read, adventure story. Theodora's father is a treasure-hunter, hired by an aristocrat to track down a ring belonging to Vlad the Impaler. Theodora is left behind while her father is hunting, but quickly gets ripped into an adventure when her father's adopted son, and Theo's first love, shows up to tell her that her father is missing. I have not read any of Jenn Bennetts contemporary books, but I think I am going to check them out after this one. The writing style was easy to read and I especially enjoyed the twists and turns in the plot pertaining to Vlad the Impaler. Not your typical vampire story. The love story I could have done without, but I understand that when this book was published that was how you got young teens attention. I will definitely check out more from this author in the future and go though her backlist titles as well.

It's a fast paced, fun read! The fantastical elements are pretty limited, the storyline needed to be developed a little bit more, but it was easy enough to read, very Indiana Jones and National Treasure like!

This book was so incredibly fun. It’s a bit like The Historian combined with Stalking Jack the Ripper, and I could not be more pleased.

The story quite literally jumps right into the action and maintains that sort of pace throughout, as we travel along with Theodora and Huck through southeastern Europe in search of her missing father and a mysterious ring linked to Vlad the Impaler.

I have to say that there is a lot to love about this, but what truly jumped off the page for me was Huck as a character overall and Theodora’s inquisitive mind. I loved the humor, banter and camaraderie between these two, and especially loved seeing them happy together, after they’ve had the courage to clear the air and lower their boundaries.

If you’re looking for a story with an enticing mystery and witty characters, look no further! Enjoy the ride!

Having a treasure hunting father has its perks. At least it used to. Now 16 year old Theodora finds herself stranded in a hotel whilst her father goes off on his latest adventure. This time though he hasn’t come back. Left only with his diary and the infuriating Huck, the boy who brook her heart, the duo set off on an adventure of their own to find him. But, her father’s latest treasure, the ring of Vlad Dracul aka Vlad the Impaler, takes them down a dark and dangerous path, one that none of them may survive.

A book with a young female Indiana Jones type and some Dracula lore? Why, yes please, sign me up. Especially as it is by Jenn Bennett, an author I first started reading this year and have, so far, enjoyed all her work. Lady Rogue however, wasn’t quite the success I wanted it to be.

I was expecting, and hoping for, a fast paced action story with hints of magic and romance. But, what I found was a book with a very unsteady and plodding pace, although the hints of magic and romance were there. Lady Rogue fell into the trap of having a very slow build to a very exciting last 5-10% of the book. The remainder of the book was Theo and Huck having a lacklustre second chance type romance. Theo and Huck had grown up together and fallen in love before the events of the book, but as we didn’t actually see any of this, we were just told it happened, I wasn’t feeling the spark between them.

I did enjoy the mythology and the magic that was revealed in this book, I just wish the book was paced better so that it was exciting all the way through rather than just right at the very end. I could see this being the beginning of a series where Theo and the gang travel around the world looking for treasure with Theo and Huck’s relationship being explored further with the series. If that’s the case I would read the next book as I like Bennett’s writing and the characters she creates, it’s just this one was a very slow starter.

3/5 stars. I struggled to connect with this Young Adult fantasy novel. The plot was interesting but I disliked the romance.

What I enjoyed most about The Lady Rogue was the setting. The story begins in Istanbul, then takes the Orient Express to Romania. These aren't settings you see particularly frequently in YA, and Bennett does a nice job with the sense of place.

Having read all of Jenn Bennett's novels, her strength as a writer seems to lie more in characterization than it does in plotting, and The Lady Rogue bears that out. Unfortunately, the book hinges much more on the fantastical plot, a search for an evil, magical ring worn by Vlad the Impaler, than it does on the characterization. The mystery's not bad, but it's fairly slow, and I didn't feel particularly invested in it. Also, personally, I tend to struggle with historical novels that include just a small bit of magic; I prefer either straight up historical or fully blown fantasy. If you like the fantasy elements of Mackenzi Lee's Guide books, this might work better for you.

I have loved every Jenn Bennett book I've read, and this one is no exception. There is action, romance, magic, and one tough young lady who is determined to save her family, as well as the world.

This was a fun read, though somewhat cheesy and predictable at times. I enjoyed a lot of the historical aspects of the book and the archaeology did make it all feel a bit Indiana Jones at times, which was fun. Theo and Huck were enjoyable characters for the most part, though sometimes they got on my nerves (all the angst over their romance was a little too much for me at times). I was also frequently annoyed by Theo's father, which is funny as he was hardly in the book, but his overprotective and somewhat controlling nature was a bit exhausting at times.
If you're looking for a fun, Indiana Jones-style romp through the home of Vlad the Impaler, with a bit of mystery and intrigue tied in, give this one a try. It was a fairly quick read and good fun at times. Just be prepared for some cheese and well-worn tropes.
