Many abused women don't leave for themselves but run for their children. I learned about a new mental disorder reading this book. The rating would've been better but I feel there were several threads that never got tied up. As well as some things I had questions about that weren't addressed.
Overall I enjoyed reading this and have already told a few people about it and recommended it to others.

A quick and easy read, as far as writing style goes. There is plenty of domestic abuse in here, though, which was NOT easy to read. I think I am a bit worn out from this being used as a thriller plot device, aka entertainment, (looking at you The Last Mrs. Parrish and Pretty Girls). Hence, the 2 star rating. Could just be me, but this just wasn't original in any way and I didn't feel connected to any of the characters. Meh.

Drew and Michael are clearly on the run, but the intensity of their situation unravels them as "All the Lovely Pieces" unfolds. Told from multiple perspectives, we learn of Drew and Adam Crenshaw, the life they lived together, and the family they shared. We also learn of the dark secrets that Drew keeps from her son, Michael, as they roam the country escaping from the life they left behind. But who is really to blame here: Adam, the husband who was not satisfied by anything his wife did, or Drew, who unintentionally committed murder in order to escape her husband? With twists throughout the book that you never see coming, Winchester keeps you on your toes and makes you wonder, will all the lovely pieces fall into place?

Huge book hangover after this one. Excellent psychological thriller! Story of Drew who is on the run with her young son from her abusive psychotic husband. By the time Drew realizes the man she married is extremely dangerous it is too late, she is being held captive in her own home, unable to see her new son who she just gave birth to while prisoner in the home. This book moves between past and present seamlessly while Drew is on the run trying to protect her son and herself. Well written book that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I enjoyed this thriller and found myself sucked in rather quickly. Drew is on the run for something, but it is unclear what she is hiding from in the beginning of the novel. Also, the different narrators telling the story made it even more interesting as I was trying to figure out how they were connected.

Great suspenseful read.

Drew is on the run with her 10 year old son, Michael - trying to hide from her psychopath husband.

I enjoyed reading the multiple points of view that eventually melded together to give a full picture. of the horrible life Drew had endured while she was still with her husband. I felt her panic during several heart pounding scenes.

I look forward to reading more by this author. Thank you Netgalley and J.M Winchester for the opportunity to read this book for an unbiased review.

I found this book intense and quick paced. Drew, a woman on the run with her child for 9 years now, slowly starts to find a permanent home. However she has led a life full of lies and running. Her son is attending public school for the first time and there are people wanting to be a part of their lives.

Full of flashbacks and mystery around the corner, there is suspense and a constant build up of more to come. I like how the story did show Michael and Drew’s perspective on things and events. It also makes you wonder if she is the reason Michael is the way he is.

I’m giving this the rating of four stars because there were loose ends that I wish had been tied up. The whole Catherine storyline, more with Isabella. What happens after the trial? Also the last view from Michael leaves you almost wondering if a sequel will come about.

This book kept me guessing all the way through and it was a throughly enjoyable read! I enjoyed the suspense of not knowing the full story about any of the characters right until the end...the end sped up quickly and kept me hooked that I had to finish that same night!
Would definitely read more by this author!

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

Aptly named I think since you really don’t get the full logistics until the end. Drew has put herself in an incredible situation that even almost a decade later she is still stuck in. Despite numerous evade tactics our past does catch up with us all.

What did I like? It’s creepy as shit, and The Drew /Nanny situation was weird. At first I thought maybe this chick had multiple personalities but that went away quick. I love dark tales like these with nightmares we can’t erase.

Would I buy this book? Yes, it’s definitely a story line that does a wonderful job of being told. It was hard to put down.

Thoughts for the author? Great job! Looking forward for more from this author!

This story is told by 3 characters - Drew who escaped her prison like marriage to Adam, Drew's son Micheal and Adam's mistress Catherine. The buildup was lengthy, flashbacks to Drew's marriage to lend empathy to her decision to run away.
The ending - very good.

I had high hopes for this book, however I didn’t enjoy it as much as I though I would and was left feeling somewhat disappointed. The plot is good, however it didn’t develop as much as I would have liked. Overall, it could have been so much better.

Pretty good

I liked the writing and the characters were well developed. Adam was perhaps a bit over the top. A true sense of desperation and unease was created right from the beginning and didn’t let go until the conclusion.

The alternating narrative was well done and steadily built up the story. The chapters by Catherine were truly horrific.

There were some twists, some a bit too convenient. I liked the friendships that were developed along the way. The romance was fine, though unnecessary, but really didn’t distract from the story. Also, the conclusion wasn’t all sunshine but more realistic than how many of there stories end. The last chapter was chilling and leaves a lot to interpretation 😬.

Quick and entertaining read. Will check out for by this author. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Thomas & Mercer for a copy in exchange for a review.

All the Lovely Pieces had enormous potential. The story is fairly dark and mildly twisty, but unfortunately, doesn't really push any boundaries. It's as though the author, J.M. Winchester wanted this to be super violent and gritty--perhaps she was inspired by authors such as Karin Slaughter or Jennifer Hillier...but seemed unable to force herself into that head space. Details, important ones, were glossed over and left open to interpretation, and there were big gaps in the timeline which really affected the story's flow. As I was reading, I kept thinking to myself, "No, don't go in that direction...this other direction would make it so much more provocative!"

With the exception of Drew, the characters weren't fleshed out at all, which ultimately dims the story's shine more. Told from three points of view, those of Drew, Catherine, and Michael, Winchester should have gone so much deeper during Michael's chapters. This is, after all, a child whose entire life has been spent running, and who has no idea why. Further, he's the child of a psychopath...is psychopathy an inherited trait? His contributions could have been fascinating, but instead, were generic and dull. Catherine, too, seemed very cardboard cut-out. In addition, this novel could have hugely benefited from adding Adam's perspective as well. And Dr. Collins, Drew's therapist, plays an odd--and not very plausible--part in the story. Finally, I was so disappointed in Drew and Parker's romance. A battered woman, hiding, and on the run for nearly a decade, finds love again...it could have been such a compelling side story, but instead, was once again painted over with broad strokes, which made it seem more like insta-love.

My final thoughts:
This truly had the potential to be a dark, creepy, engrossing read. It just needs more detail and grit. Still well worth reading, I believe.

**Thanks, as always, to the publisher for my free digital copy of this novel.

All the Lovely Pieces follows single mother, Drew Baker, and her son, Michael, as they attempt to run away from their dark and dangerous past involving emotional and physical abuse from Drew's ex-husband Adam. It becomes clear from very early on that Drew is running away from an accident that had occurred several years ago which still haunts her to this day so she is eager to hide this traumatic experience from her son.

The story line is set out in rotating points of view: Drew's, Michael's and Catherine's, the only character still in Adam's life at this point, which I found to be particularly powerful especially when trying to understand Adam's motive from another perspective. Despite my initial concerns, the writing of Michael's POV felt raw and thought-provoking and the ideal way to bring up a further set of questions about his mother's decision to flee from the crime scene. I also found Catherine's perspective to be a fresh and interesting addition to the story line, especially important towards the end when the pace changed. However, I could not warm to Drew and my sense of doubt grew as more events from the day of the accident were revealed. Although unreliable main characters are often emblematic of the genre there were too many lose ends in the chapters written from her POV for me to truly understand her.

Despite a strong start and an interesting set of characters, there was little build up towards a twist or big revelation as usually happens with other books in the genre. In a way I liked how the author decided to lay out all the facts and reach a conclusion based on all the information provided. However, the last few chapters felt a little too rushed and there were parts involving other minor characters and Drew's new love interest that felt exaggerated and at times too unbelievable. This book has all the right ingredients for a gritty psychological thriller but I believe that some of the scenes and character interactions in the last few chapters could have been rewritten to create a more realistic ending.

“They say ten deep breaths can make a world of difference. But for me, relaxing is a doorway for the enemy.”
-
Drew has been runing from his abusive husband for nine years. Her main focus is to protect her son, so she settles in little towns and is constantly on the move.
But she is also running away from her own crimes, that could mean be separated from her son permanently.
A twisted, dark and very good psychological thriller, narrated from three points of view, fast-paced and with a very good plot, it kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time, once I started it I just couldn’t put it down.
