I usually don’t like books about the supernatural but I did enjoy this book. The author had such a way about her writing that hooked me from the start !

I didn't realize this was a supernatural romantic thriller, as I'm not into such stuff.

This is a story about Ava who escapes a tragedy by residing in a remote village in hopes of a fresh start.
She soon realizes that the old cottage where she lives is haunted and that the house has secrets that the residents would not want them to be revealed.

3.5 stars rounded to four as the story entertained me enough to finish the book.

Thanks Netgalley, Ballantine Books, and author Tess Gerritsen for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story about a woman who is trying to escape her bad choices in past. She finds a small town in Maine to retreat to in order to work on her overdue book and to try to come to terms with her past. Sadly, she uses alcohol to numb her pain and to help to not feel guilty. It does not take long to realize she has found herself in what many have said is a haunted house and a string of unsolved murders of women all looking similar to her.
Brodie’s Watch has brought her peace, and the Sea Captain Jeremiah Brodie feels more real than ghost to her. Even though she is not really sure what is happening she longs for visits from her Sea Captain. As she learns more about the murders she begins to question what is real or what is due to a few too many glasses of wine. Will Ava be able to determine if her Sea Captain is responsible for the murders at Brodie’s Watch? Or is there a real live killer who is responsible for these deaths? Will Ava ever make peace with her past?
This was a carefully well written story full of suspense and supernatural events. Ava is a complex character, which struggles with her own guilt, which forces her to visit her past mistakes. She will reminder herself of the Captains message on one of their first meetings. “Here in my house, what you seek is what you will find.”
This was an advance copy I was given in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read from Tess Gerritsen.

I liked this book from the very first chapter. I think what drew me in was the story line about the ships captain and him possibly being a ghost. It brought back childhood memories of a TV show ,The Ghost & Mrs. Muir I use to love watching. But it was so much more! This was suspenseful and I could not stop turning the pages. It was also a story that had multiple story's going on with the main character. It was so refreshing to read a story that is unlike all the books out there. I read this book from start to finish in 7 1/2 hours without putting it down.

My usual gentry of books is suspense and mystery. But it seams that some of the books all have the same story line. This book was so much different then what I'm used to and it was very refreshing to read a different type of story.

I usually read a good book but sometimes don't like the ending. This book I liked from begging to end.. Tess Gerritsen can tell a great story and I will be looking forward to more of her books.

I gave this 5 stars.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review The Shape of Night. I am a huge fan of Tess Gerritsen and when I saw a new release I didn’t even read the summary I just requested it and couldn’t wait to read it. I have read most of her previous books and I am very familiar with her style and genre. I was very surprised as I began to reading The Shape of Night, I am not usually a fan of paranormal books and I was about to abandon it, but something kept me from putting it down, and I am so glad that I continued reading it. I loved this book, it was a combination of a paranormal erotic murder mystery. I was so sorry that the book ended...I would have liked a sequel.

Thank you NetGalley & Ballentine Books for a digital ARC of Tess Gerritsen's new book The Shape of Night. I loved the Rizzoli & Isles series by Gerritsen but I knew this book was going to be different from reading the synopsis. I just didn't know how different. It's a whole new realm and a style of reading I tend to shy away from but turns out I couldn't put this book down. It has some supernatural parts, some romance and a mystery all together. I want to add that I thought the supernatural parts were intriguing and believable unlike some that are just too ridiculous to believe. The entire story was very well written by Gerritsen!

Well, well, well, this is certainly not the type of book that I expect from Tess Gerritsen. I will say that I am not a big fan of ghost stories and I considered, for a brief moment, not finishing. I am so glad that I hung in there because this was a fantastic read with a very unexpected twist!

This book has so many things that I do enjoy, food, wine, cooking, suspense, a little romance and so much more...

Many thanks to Netgalley and Ballentine Books for this advanced readers copy. This book is scheduled to release October 2019.

Thank you SO much for this ARC!

Tess Gerritsen is one of my favorite authors ever! I was definitely obsessed with Rizzoli and Isles. At first I was upset to learn that this was not the same genre as R&I. However, I was so pleasantly surprised with this book, it is fantastic (of course it is!). Any other author that could try to write this storyline would fail. Thank you for writing this and getting me out of my reading comfort zone.

The Shape of Night is a fantastic Tess Gerritsen book. It was not your typical book from her and it did not disappoint. Great writing and characters. A must read.

The Shape of Night was quite unlike any other book by Tess Gerritsen. I have to admit I was a little disappointed being such a huge fan of Rizzoli and Isles but the book was still captivating. Ava, who is plagued with guilt from a dark secret escapes to a house in Maine called Brodie's Watch. This house also carries dark secrets itself. As she stays at this house she soon has a ghostly visitor at night. Unsure whether this visitor is real or a result of her excessive drinking, she sees out to discover the history of the house. What she finds out is shocking.

This book is not a typical Tess Gerritsen book. This is more of a modern day gothic romance
including Haunted House, ghost, romance, and hidden rooms.

Thanks to netgalley for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review

The Shape of Night is a right turn in writing for Tess Gerritsen. If you think you’re getting a Rizzoli and Isles story, forget it. This one is so different from everything I’ve read from her.
And I loved it!

Imagine renting a summer house in a secluded Maine town to finish a project that’s already a year over due? Imagine you’ve made a decision in your recent past that throws your life into chaos? Would you be looking to escape? That’s just what Ava Collette does. She’s come to the small town to finish a cookbook. But the house she rents feels…odd. Something’s not right.

Is it her excess drinking making her thinks he hears noises? Feels a presence? Hears a voice? Or is the house well and truly haunted?

Such starts a novel that is part ghost story, part murder mystery and part personal redemption tale.

With her usual flare for spot-on dialogue and descriptive exposition, Gerritson takes you through Ava’s days – and tortured nights – on a journey of self discovery that has so many twists and turns, you’d better not skip a page or skim over any details!

I loved this book. Thanks so much to NEtgalley for a sneak peak for an honest opinion of the work.

Thank you Random House for allowing me to read this book.. I was so excited to read this advanced reading copy. I am a big fan of Tess Gerritsen and have read all her books.

This was an interesting quick read, a type of present day ghost story.

Definitely not your typical who-dun-it. The story takes a while to develop, but it’s well worth the wait. When a food writer tries to escape her problems, she moves to the coast of Maine, where she rents a very strange mansion, “Brodie’s Watch”, in an attempt to overcome her writer’s block. The mansion’s lease price is low due to its history: a history involving deaths of it inhabitants. The house, a ghost, a demon, local residents, who/what is to blame for the deaths and the haunting of the writer? Very different, yet addicting read from a fantastic author.

I was ecstatic to see that Tess Gerritsen was releasing a new book and could not wait to read it. It's not normally the type of book I read (dealing with paranormal, etc) but thought since it was Tess Gerrtsen I'd give it a go. While well written like all her books. I only got through 25% of the book before I gave up. I found Ava, the main character unlikable, and when she starts to have feelings for a ghost, I couldn't continue. I'll definitely pick up another Tess book when she starts writing mysteries again but this one was too much for me. I'm sure others who are into this genre will love it but it wasn't for me. Thank you for the advanced copy.
