Was unable to open this book file or request or remove it from my shelf. I think I would like it if I were able to read it.

Fleeing the war, Beatrice, a young England girl, is living with Clem, a nurse in Santa Fe. When Pearl Harbor is attacked, Clem makes arrangements to travel to across the country to train other nurses. Beatrice, moves in with her best friend. Nearby, a Japanese Internment Camp is being built.

Although I found this book to be slow moving, I believe it will be very appealing to pre-teen or middle school age girls. Beatrice was a dynamic character, one I believe many will relate to. Although the book is fiction, I believe it can be an educational tool, to show what life was like during WWII, and to address the internment camps in the U.S. Overall, well worth picking up.

An ambitious book that works to tie in many aspects of World War II history into a story for middle readers.

I found this available to read on NetGalley and got an ebook of Beatrice on Her Own written by Rosemary Zibert.

The story follows Beatrice a British girl living in Santa Fe following the war, she has a settled life there even though she is far away from her family. When the attack on pearl harbour happens her life is uprooted again as the woman she lives with Clem gets called to help train nurses and she must find a new place to live all while the war is coming right to her door with a Japanese camp being set up.

I loved getting to read a side of world war 2 that was different, I knew about the Japanese camps but hadn’t read a story that involved them. Beatrice was a very sweet, caring and giving character that without even planning too would sign herself up to do things to help her friends and the war effort.

This book was a good historical read, it showed a few different aspects of the Second World War era with a slew of characters that were all interesting. This book is a great book for helping teach about events that occurred during WW2. I’m really glad I got the opportunity to read this book.
