Zen Seeds by Shundo Aoyama is a collection of 60 short lessons on the blessings Buddhism can bring to your life. Shundo entertains and enlightens with stories from her own life, as well as classical teachings, and koan teachings. She presents these lessons in an easy and engaging fashion that made me view Buddhism in a less pessimistic light than previously. My usual impression of the philosophy is dour, and in itself pessimistic. This book really showcases the gratitude aspect, and in seeing all people as one.

I received a free electronic copy of this work from Netgalley, Shundo Aoyama, and Shambhala Publications, Inc. - Shambhala. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this collection of essays of my own volition, and this is my honest opinion of this work.

The subtitle of this excellent work is Essential Buddhist Teachings on Effort, Gratitude, and Happiness. Shundo Aoyama Roshi wrote this work during her early life as an acolyte in a Zen temple in mid-twentieth-century Japan. She has a lot to share, and her words are simple and full of mind pictures that make it easier to pause and focus. I enjoyed very much traveling down these paths with her. It is very difficult, in this modern age, to take the time to amble down mental highways, but Shundo can help us do just that. I hope that I will continue to make time to enjoy life in this way.
This is a book I am happy to refer to friends and family. Even if only a little of her method remains with us, it is adding peace and beauty to our daily grind.

The essays covered a wide array of issues and were interesting to read. However, the advice felt a bit out of touch and old-fashioned. This was well-written.

Years ago, I joined a Buddhist group at my local library. When I moved away from the area, it was too far to travel to. Since then, I've become involved in other practices, but those long ago Buddhist teachings still come to mind when I need them most.

I loved this book! It brings to mind the group I belonged to. I read it through once, and now I plan to start again reading one selection each day or so, giving the idea as much time as needed to become a part of me.

This is excellent. It's short but packed with wisdom and reminders. The book description mentions "spiritual nourishment" which is apt. Highly recommended.

It is an honor to receive the ARC for review!!
