I love the magic, fun, witchcraft and plot in this book. I just wish I read previous books in this series for clarity. The book was enjoyable and fun to read. Will go back and start from book one to get a good kick out if this series. Highly recommended for creative writing!
Anne Williams is a seer—the rarest, most dangerous kind of magician—gifted with the ability to divine the past, present and future. Anne spent her life hiding her true nature to protect her from those who would abuse her prophetic powers, but with an impending apocalypse on the horizon Anne can't afford to stay in the shadows. Anne steps up the plate to help magiciankind, but someone tries to take her out of the game—permanently. Wounded and with nowhere else to go, Anne finds shelter with chronicler Simon St. Jerome, but with one touch he plunges Anne into a tangled web of secrets and lies. Simon spent centuries concealing his past while recording the history of magician society, but nothing can hide the truth from a seer. As his soul mate, Anne is determined to discover every secret he's buried—including the tale of how she died once before in a failed attempt to spend eternity with her immortal lover.
This was a pretty good book. I really liked Anne. The story kept my interest throughout. I hadn’t read the previous books so I did feel a little lost, but I still enjoyed the book. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
I’ll admit I solely requested this book due to the cover! I’m a strong fan of strong female paranormal characters. Anne Williams is a Seer, a bad ass one if the cover is true!
This is the sixth book in the series and I haven’t read the previous instalments so I may be missing something. It started off well and then seemed to take a turn to in being a extremely smutty (and I’m no prune but it was a little OTT for me).
I do adore the world that Robyn Bachar has created, her characters have depth, I’m just not overly keen on the narrative style.

Blood, Book and Candle is the sixth book in the Witch Series. I actually read the first book "Blood, Smoke and Mirrors" and really enjoyed it. So, was looking forward to reading this book and was not disappointed.
The characters are well written, especially liked Anne the "seerer" as she finds herself seeking shelter with Simon after being injured. Some parts were a bit humorous which made it even more likable. The novel starts with Anne being shot while at the Dusty Tomes and from there it takes off until the very end keeping you wanting more. I especially liked the Bad Witch Glossary.
This book was provided to me for free in exchange for my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book, but definitely read the other books in the series if possible first - it's worth it.
I was hoping for more from this book. I have not read any other books in this series and I was a bit lost. I think this is a series that should read in order. I have not yet done this. This book had some good moments in it for me. The characters were very interesting and fun. There was also a lot of action in this book. "This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review."
Lots of action in this book! I remember when this series began and it has come a long way. Definitely a book to read!
An engrossing and entertaining read, well written and full of interesting characters.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.

Anna has to hide her abilities of risk becoming someone's slave seer. I enjoyed this book tremendously. I will read the other books in this series. The Promethians are wreaking havoc on magical and shapeshifter alike. Anna and her soulmate face them down in a truly imaginative tale.
Actual rating: 3.5 stars
Blood, Book and Candle is the sixth book in the Bad Witch series. The first book, Blood, Smoke and Mirrors, is available for free in eBook format. I strongly suggest reading it if you’re new to the series, otherwise the world and overall plot that Bachar has created may be confusing and unengaging.
Someone is hunting magicians, and Anne Williams is on their list.
Anne is a Seer, a magician who gets visions about the past, present, and future. Most of her life she hid this fact, pretending to be a Librarian, but recently that knowledge has become public. When Anne is attacked, she finds herself within the protective wards of a Chronicler’s home. Simon St. Jerome—whom she discovers is her soul mate, and not for the first time. He’s immortal (fangs and all), and Anne’s past self didn’t survive the immortality ceremony.
This book leaned a bit more heavily on the romance storyline over the main plot, but Anne and Simon are both very strong and very interesting characters, so it was fun to discover how their past and present collides.
Most of the action occurs as the pair hunt the hunters—a group of demons and non-magical humans seeking a way to harness magician magic for those without. Anne’s powers can help turn the tide for local magicians. Everyone around her fears her involvement because she has neither defensive nor offensive magic, but Anne proves to be a warrior princess who was prepared in advance.
It was awesome reading a female character who wasn’t the one that needed rescuing. That’s an easy cliché for authors fall into, but with Anne, we’re given a character who is aware of her limitations and did something to overcome that.
The drawbacks of this book are similar to the same criticisms I had of book #1. While Anne and Simon were much more interesting characters than Lex and Catherine from the first book, Blood, Book and Candle is again only a single first-person narration from Anne’s point of view. This is somewhat more bearable because Anne’s powers make her able to surface read some thought impressions from Simon, but I still wanted to join Simon for his part in the story as well. The worst offender that kept this book from being four stars for me was the sudden ending. While Anne and Simon were involved in the final scene, the story wrapped up focused on a secondary character’s story. I enjoy when books give glimpses of the next story to come, but there should have been one more chapter to bring Anne and Simon’s story to a more satisfying conclusion.
Given that both books #1 and #6 had the same style of one narrator and sudden ending, it’s safe to expect this type of writing from any of Bachar’s books.
That aside, these are dynamic characters in an intriguing world rife with conflict. I enjoyed my time with Anne and Simon, would read it again, and do look forward to the next in the series. It’s fun, it’s action-packed, and full of heart.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. What a great book , I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend to everyone.
Really enjoy this series, can't wait for more. Characters and plot were interesting and fun. Looking forward to being able to read more!
I received an advanced reader's copy of Blood, Book and Candle by Robyn Bachar from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read a previous novel in this series by Robyn Bachar before so I did have high expectations for a solid read and, happily, was not let down by Blood, Book and Candle!
Overall, I enjoyed this novel and I found it to be well written and the plot was fast paced. The primary characters' romantic start was less than ideal - our protagonist, Anne, meets the mysterious Simon after being wounded and forced to flee from her shop so she's not at her best (definitely not a meet-cute moment). Their banter throughout the novel constantly made me chuckle though and their chemistry was hot. Add in an engrossing storyline, plus equally strong secondary characters, and Blood, Book and Candle by Robyn Bachar was just a good, fun read.
I am new to this series and it depicts species/vocations that are novel. I do think for future purposes that it is best not to start a series at book 6. However, the characters are intriguing and fun. I plan to go back and read the previous books. The storyline moves quickly and holds interest. . I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
