Niki Hardy was diagnosed with cancer and had to learn how to find a new normal. Niki's determination helped her battle cancer in the best way she could. Niki's story is one that can help anyone who is facing major obstacles in life and teach them how to "breathe again." Nikki doesn't hold back her humor, her pain, and her story. She offers an uninhibited look into her struggles. I appreciated her sharing her “Thriver's Manifesto.” Motivating for anyone who reads it. Not quite my cup of tea in writing style but I appreciate her story.
Anybody who knows me in person, knows that I have had a rough few years, well a rough life to be exact. I found myself drowning in everything, barely staying afloat. I knew this wasn't what God wanted for me. Thank God that He sent me the launch team for Breath Again by Niki Hardy. It was exactly what I needed. I wanted to thrive, and not just survive my life. Niki showed me how to do just that. I loved how simple the steps were and how Niki made you think about your life, and your responsibilities in it. My life mantra will now be "I've got this cause God's got me!"
I loved Breathe Again. I have shared this book with many who are going through difficult situations. And I love the emails I receive from Niki on a regular basis! Amazing and helpful resource for those who are walking through challenging circumstances.
I took to heart much of the advice in this book. Just the thing you need when you're weary and need a little spiritual boost.
Breathe Again is a book I can relate to as I have been thru my own trials .The book is helpful and healing.
This a awesome book for anyone dealing with life struggles, from cancer to loss of a dear one. The Author, Niki Hardy, talks about her struggles as a cancer survivor turned thriver, she talks about her faith and fears, and shares it with a honest and vulnerable spirit. So if you’re struggling to find peace, joy, and purpose in the midst of all the bad things life throws your way this is the book! I received a advanced copy in return for a honest opinion.
What a fantastic resource for anyone facing difficult circumstances in their life! Niki is a very relatable author, and shares her story and faith journey in a beautiful and profound way. Loss after loss, dealing with frustration and devastating news, all can be dealt with when faith in Christ is the center focus of one's life. Jesus promised us tribulation in this world. We will all face hardship at some point. The beautiful reminder is that Jesus is right there to walk through it with us, and bring us out for the better on the other side.
BREATHE AGAIN by Niki Hardy is a book designed to teach us one precious lesson - how to breathe again while gasping for air, when the turmoil, travail and turbulence of life threatens to submerge us. God is the breath of life and He is the One who helps us to breathe again, through all the stresses and strains of life, up the hills of hope and down the valleys of despair, until we reach the everlasting, eternal bliss of heaven. Come and breathe again with Niki Hardy in the pages of this book, that inspires you to just take a deep breath and breathe again, as you begin life again, on its altered scale.
Sometimes, when people tell me they recently went through the loss of a much loved family member, tears roll down down my own cheeks as I know what that feels like. Niki's story really hit home for me.
I greatly appreciate the way she encourages readers to search into their feelings and root out what deeply seated, negative put downs of ourselves we are holding onto. I could relate to what she said about how often we don't feel as if God loves us as much as He does others, or how we might somehow feel the fault is all our own, and we deserve it, when our life seems to fall apart.
This is a remarkable, thought-provoking book which may very well be needed at some point in every Christians journey.
I loved LOVED how relatable Niki is and once I started this book, I immediately went to find out more about her. I needed this book and really enjoyed and connected with it on various levels. Highly recommend for anyone struggling through a lot of lows.
Nikki Hardy has given us a very personal look at her journey through sorrow in the loss of her mother and sister, and then her own personal battle with cancer. I liked this author’s writing style because she was very frank and open about her own emotions and spiritual journey. I liked the fact that she ushers Scripture and gives some very specific ways to battle depression and discouragement during times of heartache and trouble. She consistently turns the reader back to God as the true source of hope and strength. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is facing a serious health issue, or to anyone who is praying someone through a time of trouble. I know that I learned much for this book about their viewpoint, and that God will use Nikki Hardy’s sharing of story in my own life.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
We are meant to thrive and not just survive. The author shares her journey through cancer and the things she learned along the way. What an inspiring story this was to read. It isn’t all roses but it is about Faith and standing in the Truth of God’s Word during difficult times. I highly recommend it.
I received an advanced copy from the publisher and netgalley. This is my own opinion.
This is a wonderful book, full of hope and God's mercy. The Author tells her story of battling cancer to finding God's Grace.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the Publisher for my honest review, and this is one awesome book and I would highly recommend it. This book will give you the peace to believe in what the words tells us .
If you're currently going through a difficult circumstance - or know someone who is facing an unexpected and hard situation - this is a book you'll want to read. Niki writes both as a friend on the journey and as a guide who has made it, in many ways, to the other side. It isn't all rainbows and roses now, but Niki shares important lessons that she learned along the way and continues to put into practice today. My one critique would be the amount of times she references "rubies in the rubble." This phrase appears in every chapter, it seems, and doesn't mean much after two or three times. Perhaps it was the original title of the book and was intended to tie the chapters together.
Niki Hardy is beautiful, inside and out. I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting her at a conference a couple of years ago, and her story really stuck with me. And her voice (her British accent, y'all--I can't even!). When I heard she was writing a book, I couldn't wait to read more, and Breathe Again absolutely did not disappoint. Life can be really hard, and horrible things sometimes happen to us and around us...but God is still good, and life can be good, too. Niki encourages us to thrive, not merely survive. And with this book, she shares her story and others' stories and gives us tangible ways to choose joy in the midst of hard things. I have recommended this book to several friends who are living through--or have lived through--hard things, and I recommend it to you, too!
So life isn’t easy. And sometimes it’s really hard. Author Niki Hardy gets that. Hardy encourages us to look at the lies we are believing and replace them with God’s truth. It’s the only way to get through the hard stuff. I really like that Hardy is open and honest. No Christianese and some tough language (not bad language, but she doesn’t cut us any slack either). Her vulnerability helped me to look at my “junk” and how I was viewing it and myself. And then what to do about it. She didn’t leave me hanging but held out hope
As Hardy says, “Life doesn’t have to be pain-free to be full”. In the midst of pain you can not only survive, but you can thrive and live the life God means for you to live. If you’re not in the midst of something painful right now, you will be someday and should be prepared. Grab a copy of Breathe Again. I know I’ll be reading it again.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
“The only way to breathe again is to go to the One who is the breath of life and breathed lift his life into us.”
Breathe Again by Niki Hardy
For anyone who needs help to thrive when your life is falling apart. Niki Hardy has gone through major life challenges; when she lost both her mom and sister to cancer and then when she found out she had cancer. Even though it felt like she hit rock bottom, Niki shares her story and the stories of other people and how they thrived.
I received an Advanced Reader e-copy from netgalley for a review. All opinions are my own.
This book was beautifully written and full of hope, faith and encouragement. Hardy shares her story of loss, grief and overcoming rectal cancer. The book is broken into three parts (Finding Solid Ground, Learning To Breathe Again, Keep Calm and Breathe On) and has questions at the end of each chapter for further personal reflection. The conclusion of the chapter also provides one point of the Thriver's Manifesto, a rally cry put together near the end of the book.
Hardy shares with readers her life through the years as she loses her mom and sister to cancer, plodding through grief while ministering to others as a pastor's wife and speaker. Hardy then hears after a routine colonoscopy that she has rectal cancer. As this journey commences, she begins to examine the way she deals with difficult times in her life and is eventually able to use her experiences to spread hope to those facing impossible issues.
Hardy is a hilarious, honest writer who not only faces things that many would not want to talk about, but owns them, reminding the reader that facing tough times with hope is all about perspective. She bravely shares her fears, failures, triumphs and grief as she fights for her life. One of my favorite quotes from the first portion was this: "We endure, we survive, and we forget to look for joy in the midst of deep grief or intimacy in a season of loneliness."
As the book progresses, Hardy brings in other people who have faced giants in their lives and overcome. Hearing their stories continues to bring the reader closer to understanding how grief, struggle and pain can exist in the same space as laughter, strength and hope. That's one of the most amazing things about this book--the tension as well as levity Hardy brings. I found myself laughing one time, crying the next. The 7th chapter (Be Vulnerable) with Ali's story in it was deeply affecting for me.
Hardy is the type you'd love to glean from in person, share a cup of tea with. Her personality shines through each chapter of the book. This British powerhouse unleashes the power of faith in "Breathe Again," leading the readers through the mountains and valleys while holding tight to their hands. She will challenge you, call you out of the dark and walk alongside you as you move forward to find hope amidst difficult circumstances. That's the kind of friend we all could use in our lives.
I read an early review copy thanks to Revell, Baker Publishing Group and #NetGalley. I chose to review and all opinions are my own.
The world we live in can be a scary place filled with daily challenges that test our faith. In Niki Hardy’s case, cancer was her number one challenge. She lost her mother and sister, before finding out that she was cancer’s next victim. However, despite her pain and fear, Niki decided to fight back and enjoy her life to the fullest. She discovered that “life doesn’t have to be pain-free to be full.”
When Niki was faced with rectal cancer, and all of the discomfort and unknowns that it brought into her life, she chose to be brave and to trust God. “Choosing brave is not the same as fearless”, but instead it means to not let your fear stop you and hold you back. Once she made the choice to be brave, she made the important decision to trust God saying, “I didn’t choose to have cancer, and I bet you didn’t choose the junk you’re battling right now. But friend, we can choose to hold on. We may feel powerless, but we’re not. This choice to trust God is still firmly ours. Once we choose to trust God more than we trust the lies, pain, and ourselves, we see he is unshakeable.”
Niki also found that it was important to find a community of individuals to surround her and love her through her struggles. She realized the importance of reaching out to others, even if it was with a simple card or a hug. “When we turn our heart towards another and away from self-protection, small acts of kindness have the power to lighten their load and brighten our darkness without great cost to ourselves.” Niki chose to find things in her life to be grateful for, even when her daily life was difficult.
Each chapter contained personal stories about the author or others that she knew, along with advice and encouragement. At the end of each chapter were personal reflection questions, and a prayer. There was also a Thriver Manifesto, and another line was added at the end of every chapter.
I would recommend this book to anyone that is going through a significant challenge in their life. Whether our struggle is cancer, another health issue, trouble at work, or whatever the world may throw our way, we have a choice. Do we give in to despair, or do we fight to breathe again, and be grateful for the good in our lives?
When I saw the title for this book, I was very excited to read it. I’ve had more than my fair share of struggles (or as Niki says, “when the poop hits the fan”). I’m sure I’m not alone in this either. Life is hard, and Niki gets that, so very much. Her book is like a personal cheerleader, equipping us with the tools we need during these extra hard times in life. I love how practical it is. It’s about living in the midst of difficult times, and learning to not just survive them, but thrive. Niki gives the reader tools like meditating on who we are in Christ. There are great prayers and applications at the end of each chapter. Niki writes in a very relatable way. She discusses hard topics with grace, humor and wit. I found myself already putting a lot of her tools into practice and noticing changes in the way I think and how I approach rough situations. I want to be someone who lives well and chooses joy during the really hard times, and this is exactly the book I was looking for to help with that!
