The Bachelor, by Sabrina Jeffries, will be available at booksellers on 2-25-20. Bachelor is book 2 in Ms Jeffries Duke Dynasty series. I've read an excerpt of the story and am intrigued with beginning of the story. I'm interested in finding out how the story goes from the first chapter on. Will Lady Gwyn one-up her blackmailer? Will Major Wolfe stop being mysterious & kiss our heroine? Will Gwyn grow up & take responsibility for her actions? Can't wait to find out.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this single chapter excerpt advance reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“The Bachelor (Duke Dynasty #2)” by Sabrina Jeffries (chapter 1 excerpt).
Although having only received the first chapter of the book, I really enjoyed it and I’m liking the two main characters already. I look forward to future encounters between these two.
Definitely adding this book to my wishlist!

Lady Gwyn Drake thought when she was young that Lionel Malet was in love with her and wanted to get married but she quickly learned that her twin brother, Thorn, the Duke of Thornstock turned him down. Now , ten years later Malet was back in Gwyn's life trying to bribe her about their time together. When Thorn is concerned for Gwen's safety as she is about to make her debut, he decides to hire Joshua Wolfe, the estate’s gamekeeper to be her personal bodyguard. Joshua was a Major in the Navy and is quite capable of protecting Gwyn even with his disability.
The more time Gwyn and Joshua spend together, the more the sparks start to fly. Joshua likes the spitfire that Gwyn is but he doesn't feel he is worthy of such a lady. Too bad Gwyn has other ideas! It will take a lot for these two strong minded individuals to realize that they are perfect for each other, even with all their flaws and questionable pasts.
I just adored this story! I loved Gwyn! I loved her forward way of thinking about how woman should be able to behave. I really enjoyed Joshua too. He is such a loyal and honest person and he really deserves the world. Great new addition to this series!
Sabrina Jeffries knows how to write a book. This book had delightful characters and a plot that moved along. I would recommend this book to others.
I was provided with a digital excerpt ARC of this title by the publisher and Netgalley.
I am already hooked!
Gwyn has tried flirting with her estate's handsome gamekeeper. But he remains stoic and impervious to her charms. No other men capture her interest like he does, but he seems determined to remain aloof. When Gwyn's former illicit liaison attempts to blackmail her, Joshua comes to her rescue.
I can't wait to read the rest of the story and discover how she breaks down his defenses!
This review is based on a one-chapter except of the book. I didn’t get to read much of the book, but what I did read has me very interested. The first chapter did a good job of introducing the main couple and some of the conflict they face. I am very likely to read the full novel when it’s released.
Hard to tell from the short excerpt, but Sabrina Jeffries is a perennial fave, so I'll check this out post-publication!
Lady Gwyn Drake has long protected her family’s reputation, but her former suitor, Lionel Malet, appears at Armitage Hall threatening to go public with her secrets. Brooding handsome Major Joshua Wolfe, injured in naval action witnesses her blackmailer in action and comes to her rescue. Her twin brother, Thorn, hires his gamekeeper Joshua Wolfe to keep her safe in London during her debut. Duke’s sister with dowry and unsavory men at every turn, but she is attracted to Joshua. She is very sure he will never be able to forgive her youth mistake and he feels unworthy he’s simply soldier on half pay with a limp and she a Duke’s daughter and sister. Gwyn and Joshua’s romance make for an enjoyable read. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.
As an extract of the full book I will only comment on the first portion of the book. The style of writing is consistent with Project Duchess and picks up not too long after that finished. However, without some context I found it hard to come back into the story and found I couldn't really remember some details that seemed to be important to the story. When reviewing the full version I can judge this better, however, I am really looking forward to finishing the whole thing! Loving it so far!
I actually didn't realize this was only an excerpt. I don't have much to go on, but I can say that the beginning felt a little rushed. We have very little backstory as to what is happening.
I'm sure the full book will be good. I already sort of fell in love with Major Wolfe only 10 pages in...
Five amazing wounded and healed stars!!! With a gruff, grumpy hero, a feisty heroine, drama and danger...this book had it all!
When Gwyn’s past rises up to threaten her, Joshua steps in to help out. He soon finds himself in her brother’s employ as her bodyguard, a position Gwyn is not happy about for a few reasons. But the more time they spend together, the more they realize that their preconceived notions about the other was not completely accurate. They each have a past filled with pain and uncertainty that has left it’s mark on their hearts and souls.
’Like the torn ligatures and muscles in Joshua’s leg that still ached after five years, her wound was hidden…’
Oh man, I absolutely adored Gwyn! She said what she thought without a moment’s hesitation but was still sweet and caring. Once riled up, she really let it fly, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the way she stood up to Joshua.
Joshua was exactly how I like my heroes. He rarely smiled, was often curt, and just wanted to be alone. Gwyn, however, was able to reach deep inside of him and watching him slowly rise up from the ashes of his previous pain and suffering was wonderful. His main priority was protecting her, even when she was determined to waylay him at times. She certainly kept him on his toes.
’She was holding his hand. She was complaining about her suitors. He liked both things better than he should, especially after an evening of being forced to watch her dance with every fool in creation. Of fighting to keep his jealousy under control when all he wanted was to punch her partners in the face.’
I loved watching this couple together! Their banter was quick and smart, their chemistry creating a tension that is felt throughout the book. And when they finally yielded, holy heck! I’m surprised my kindle didn’t go up in flames.
This plot has several layers to it and I was completely engrossed as each one was revealed. With just enough drama and danger, interspersed with the romance, I found myself turning the pages as quickly as possible. The angst is what I would consider mild as both Joshua and Gwyn have a lot of fears, distrust, and uncertainties to deal with but without consuming the story. While they totally clicked together, theirs is not an easy happy ever to obtain. Watching them get there was pure perfection.
Its a good first chapter but I didn't realize that it was not the entire book until today and I don't write reviews for a book I have not read all of. It would not be fair to the author or to the people who read my reviews. I realize this is my fault for not looking more carefully when I requested the book but I was so excited to see this book as I have been anticipating it and missed that it was just the first chapter. I have requested the complete book and hopefully I will be approved, but a suggestion would be to make it clear with a banner on the book cover that it is not the whole book and honestly what is the point of putting part of a book on NetGalley .. It's useless to reviewers and perhaps gets people interested in a book but I don't think NetGalley reviewers are your target audience.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
This was a bit slow moving to start out with, but overall, I really enjoyed it! Joshua was so grumpy and hid behind his injury. It was once he was forced to constantly be around Gwyn that we got to see how wonderful he was. It usually is the toughest ones that fall the hardest. And I absolutely adored Gwyn’s strength of spirit. To bear the burden of her past alone for so long was admirable. I loved these two characters separately, but together they were perfect for each other. Just a note...This can be read as a standalone, but there were bits and pieces that probably would have been more understandable had I read the first in the series. And while the main issue in this story was resolved, it’s clear that there is a bigger, ongoing issue involving the entire family and series.
An intriguing beginning; I did wonder why Gwen didn't feel able to go to her brother though. One indiscretion 10 years ago and she's willing to put her life at risk rather than let her brother find out? Seemed a bit silly and naive for a woman who isn't a naive debutant any more. Hope to get approved to read the rest of the book!
This was just an email excerpt so I don’t want to give much of a review. This was interesting but I don’t feel the need to pick up the book ASAP. I’m going to rate this 3 stars but I don’t feel very comfortable rating an excerpt so that could changed if I read the whole book.
Didn't realize this was an excerpt, but I did get the actual book afterwards so you will get a real review on that NG page. Loved it!
While I wasn't paying attention when I requested this book and didn't realize it was an excerpt only...I loved what I've read so far! I am basically dying to read the rest of it and what more could an excerpt hope to accomplish?
Can't wait for this one to release.
A very engrossing snippet to a very promising read. Can't wait to read the full-length novel. 4 stars!
