The Dirty Deeds series by J. Daniels is a favorite of mine. Bad for You is still my favorite but Down Too Deep is right behind it.
Nathan is still struggling with the death of his wife. He is spending his nights working too late at his restaurant and drinking. His parents have been taking care of his adorable little girl Marley. Nate’s dad finally puts the hammer down and tells Nathan that he has to man up. Now, for the first time, Nathan has to figure out how to care for Marley. He clearly loves her, but he is lost and doesn’t know what to do.
Jenna has twins ( a boy and a girl ) and the summer free. When Jenna sees Nathan struggling she steps in to help. Jenna doesn’t just take over for Nathan; she guides him on how to care for Marley. I loved those moments where Jenna nudged Nathan and he was excited when Marley responded. Jenna knows she is probably headed for heartbreak as she starts to fall for Nathan. Nathan is still carrying a heavy load of guilt and isn’t sure he can move on.
I am a sucker for a story with kids in it. I loved the dynamic between all of the kids and Nathan and Jenna. The epilogue was fantastic. Down Too Deep is one of those books that makes the HEA reader in me very happy. It gave me everything I love in a romance. Well Done!

I have read a few books by J. Daniels and I have to say I this is my favourite book by this author.
I loved the chemistry between Nathan and Jenna and I loved the kids.
I very much liked this book but I just wish someone would have told me to make sure I have tissues near because this story made me feel all the feels.
I am giving this 4 out of 5.
Down Too Deep by J. Daniels is a stnadalone romance novel and book four in the Series. Every book is about another couple and can easily be read as a standalone. The previous books are Four Letter Word; Hit The Spot and Bad For You, Layla and Sean's story.
Down Too Deep tells the touching story of Nathan and Jenna.
Nathan Bell is a single dad who's drowning. He mourns his dead wife and forgot to life. He needs a sitter for his 2 year old, badly.
Jenna Savage is a good woman, fantastic mom of twins and loves to help. She's a bit a pleaser and when she sees how badly Nate needs someone, she's happy to help.
And while Jenna falls for him rather quickly, Nate is caught in his past. He's a complicated man with some serious issues.
All in all, Down Too Deep is an emotional read with charaters that gave me all the feels. The sidekicks are adorable and I really loved this slow burn. I give 4,75 Stars.
I have to confess it's been so long since I read the first few of these books. Then I had to wait for the next book in the series and I lost track of the releases. But when I read the blurb for this I knew I had to have it right now.
I was prepared for heartbreak and devastation from the first page. But for the first half of the book I was in this happy, cute fluff story that had a really sad backstory. And I figured I was going to be alright reading this without tissues.
Then the past came back to haunt them and I was caught up in Nathan's point of view and his reasoning for everything and his feelings for Jenna. And I was okay because I knew everything was going to work out in the end. Then bam we went to Jennas point of view and I was a blubbering mess.
The kids in this story were on point for their ages, which I loved. And they felt as much a part of the story as Nathan and Jenna were, which absolutely made the story for me.
I really loved the writing and the story. I wish I had had the time to read the book before this one but not because it was necessary to this book but just because my little book loving brain knows it was meant to. And because I loved this one and the earlier ones I am going to have to bump it up on my TBR.
But now I am off to obsess over how perfectly this book pulled all of the feels out of me.
Down Too Deep is a moving tale of second chances that will have you laughing through tears! This was my first read in the Dirty Deeds series, so I can attest that it can be read as a stand alone, but I'm definitely going back and reading the first three books so I can learn more about the people in Jenna's life.
Not my first read by author and I have been reading her books from the beginning many moons ago. This one definitely reminded me how much ad why I love reading her books! MY HEART! on this one. Not sure I was ready for it but this author..she is AMAZING with her words! *sigh*
Nathan and Jenna are explosive in a calm way with one another. Having met through having mutual friends, Jenna decides to step up and help Nathan with his daughter. Nathan is trying to figure out how to live on without his wife, how to not blame himself for her death, how to be a father to the adorable 2 year old now stuck with him full time. When the rug get’s pulled out under him, an angel shows in the name of Jenna. Jenna wit her two adorable kids and a beautiful smile and rocking body. He is more grateful than she’ll ever know. But what turns from hope, laughter, little touches, kisses…to one night that changed both of their lives.
I want to say that this is one of the PERFECT Single-parent Romance! What they both had gone through, the feelings, the uncertainty, white lies…but everything is about the kids…that’s what I loved about this so much. The journey of Nate & Marley (his daughter) breathtakingly-beautiful! Everything flowed together, the words, the transitions, side characters…especially the kids. Just bring some tissues or you can ugly little cry like me, the epilogue in this…will have you blooming! Loved everything about this!! Message me when you read the part about Olivia on 81% and tell me your heart didn’t melt!!

I love the single parent trope right now. Love. Love. Love it.
So, when I heard that the next Dirty Deeds series novel was a DOUBLE single parent book, I was all the more eager to read it.
Down Too Deep told the story of Jenna, a single mother of 8 year old twins, and Nate, a widower and father of a two year old girl.
When I read a romance novel involving single parents I not only have to find a connection between the prospective couple, but between each character and their potential partner's child(ren) as well.
Daniels was successful in creating a believable bond between all parties and children in this story. I felt each character made an effort to get to know the other's child(ren) and grew to genuinely care for them.
On the other hand, I did find that there was a lot more time spent with the parents and children together as a unit, and not quite enough time spent strengthening the romantic courtship separately. I felt Nate and Jenna had good chemistry and I did root for them, but I hoped for deeper connection and development.
Something that did bother me was the way Nate compared his love for his late wife, to his growing feelings for Jenna. Unfortunately, I find this happens a lot in romance novels involving death of a spouse. When one character is a widow(er) and the relationship between them and their late spouse is minimized in order to make the current romantic pairing seem more meaningful, I find it distasteful and unnecessary. When characters say things like, "I've never felt this before, not even with (insert name)" it's belittling their love. It's okay for them to love their new partner just as grandly in a different way and for different reasons!
That aside I was satisfied with the reading experience overall. Down Too Deep was a cute and sweet story that I easily read all in one cozy afternoon.

I’m a huge J. Daniels’ fan. Her earlier stories are some of my absolute favorites, and her Dirty Deeds series brings the steam, the drama, and the emotions that I’ve come to expect from Daniels’ writing. And the fact that both the hero and heroine are single parents in her newest release, Down Too Deep, was only one of the reasons that I couldn’t wait to dive into Nathan and Jenna’s story.
It’s mind boggling just how much Nate transforms throughout the course of the book. The Nate readers meet at the beginning compared to the one that he becomes illustrates how far he’s come since the death of his wife and the subsequent two years he spent singularly focused on his work because he couldn’t seem to handle anything else. And while Jenna plays a huge role in helping Nathan understand what’s important in life, he also has to be willing to do the work, willing to make up for his time spent away from his daughter. And that’s what impressed me most about him - the fact that he wanted a second chance to do right by his precious girl and maybe even a second chance to feel loved by someone who seems to get him and wants to be with him, even if he’s still a bit bent and broken.
Jenna’s present in Nathan’s life helps him to make the changes he needs to and along the way as Jenna keeps him moving forward and Nathan sees exactly what it means to be truly present in his daughter’s life, the bond between them…between all of them, including Jenna’s twins, becomes paramount to their lives. Loss has seemed to be Nate’s most faithful friend for quite some time, and now that he’s moving forward, some growing pains will occur, but with him on the right path now and with Jenna’s unyielding support, there’s nothing he can’s overcome…nothing he can’t make right in the present.
Jenna is an amazing mom, an amazing friend…she’s just simply amazing. J. Daniels did an amazing job of crafting Jenna’s character showing readers just how perfectly imperfect she is and why she can be the one to help Nate find his way, and, in return, feel like her life is even more fulfilled with Nate and Marley in her life.
Love in all capacities is at the forefront of Nate and Jenna’s story. Love for one’s children, love for one’s family, love for one’s friends, love for one’s self, and love for a significant other are all explored throughout the course of the book and what allowed me to see past Nate’s hands-off approach to his daughter after his wife passed away is the fact that readers get to watch his and Marley’s bond grow and become absolutely essential to Nate. And then when Nate and Jenna join forces and have each other’s back, we see just how much all five of them care for each other and rely on one another and that’s truly a precious gift for all of them.
The story line and characters in Down Too Deep epitomize the qualities of a book that gives readers all the feels. With everything that these five people have to overcome, to work through, to heal from, emotions play a significant role in all of their lives and while there are some definite growing pains, at the end, being as deep as they are with each other, allows Nate and Jenna the opportunity to truly live and love, and that’s all any of us deserve.
4.5 Poison Apples
After reading the first two chapters I knew I was going to love this book. It hooked me from the start and really hit me in all the feels. Down Too Deep is the perfect combination of humor, romance, steamy moments, healing, family and love! Even though I loved how this story ended, I was sad when it was over. If I could live with these characters forever I would.
Jenna is a single mom of two adorable twins and if her kids are happy, she is happy. I loved how strong Jenna is. Even though the father of her two children didn't want anything to do with them, she found her way and would do anything to make these two happy. She's independent, a hard worker, has a big heart and is just a character you can't help but love.
Nate is a character I could even write a book about, haha. After losing his wife, grief took over (and who can blame him after how it all went down). Except he stopped living and his little girl needed him. When he gets a little wake up call, his world turns upside down again, but this time in a good way. I loved seeing him open himself up and learn more about his little girl. Marley is the sweetest thing and all the scenes with her in it had me smiling. Nate is so much stronger than he thinks and his journey in this book put him on the top of my book boyfriend list.
And don't get me started about Nate and Jenna together. I love how they unexpectedly end up in each other's lives and the connection you feel. Their chemistry is a lot of fun and the flirting kept a smile on my face. They just fit together and I loved how natural it felt. I can keep going on and on about how much I felt this book, but I think that says enough. Down Too Deep is just a book you need to read and feel for yourself. J. Daniels has a way of making you love her characters and I just can't get enough.
On top of these amazing characters, we also get a glimpse of the other characters we met along the way in the Dirty Deeds series. This book is so worth the time!!
5 Needs All of them Together Stars!!!
Oh my heart…it’s so full of love and joy having just finished this latest book by Ms. Daniels. Don’t get me wrong, it was a somewhat painful ride to get to this point, because let’s face it Nathan has survived something that is debilitating, which we see at the beginning of the book, but once Jenna and her kids Olivia and Oliver enter his and Marley’s world on a consistent basis, everything turns around!
Ms. Daniels has brought us back into these characters’ world and everyone is full of love and understanding and wanting to help Nate and his beautiful daughter heal and move on. But that’s generally so much more difficult than we think it is. His pain is so deep and has broken him that I wasn’t sure anything could bring him to life again. Leave it to Jenna and her love of life and his daughter to make him want to live and love again.
This book moves at a quick pace and it fits perfectly for their love. When kids are involved hearts need to be protected sometimes, but in this instance these kids showing Nate and Marley all this love had my heart filled with warmth.
Jenna is a woman that would do anything for those that she loves and as her feelings for this man grows, her heart becomes more and more attached and embedded into their lives and for a while it’s beautiful. But this wouldn’t be a book about reclaiming love and life if there weren’t obstacles and hurdles to jump over. In my mind these trying times just makes this book that much more perfect….it’s realistic in how we learn to love again and that it’s okay to love this deeply again. It’s also a story about forgiveness.
Ms. Daniels has given us a story that brings us back to a small coastal town that I love and adore. I fell in love again with this crazy bunch of people and the love they have for each other proving that family isn’t always because of being related by blood. It’s full of redemption, all-encompassing love and a story that will forever be in my heart.

After witnessing Nathan's desperate need for assistance with his daughter, she immediately offers to babysit whenever he needs... she just didn't realize how often he would be away, or how little he knows about being a parent. But, little by little, Jenna helps Nathan become the Dad he always wanted to be... and opens his heart to all of life's possibilities in the process...

Down Too Deep was an emotionally charged read with the sweetest non-traditional family dynamic in the making. Jenna and Nathan's relationship was fraught with many obstacles and long buried pain, but the healing they provided each other was something the greatest relationships are made of... if they do everything they can to let them flourish...
I really enjoyed the premise of this book, and the characters were sweet and had an ultra sexy sexual dynamic. I loved Jenna's generous personality and her desire to help a man who has been through so much, but I also felt that she was way too much of a push over in the process. Nathan's pain and inner turmoil was palpable, and I really enjoyed his transformation throughout the book, but there were definite moments when he was hard to love. For all of the great, heartwarming moments this book provided, the story also lagged at times, and I had to work to stay engaged through the entirety of the story as a result.
This book is a must read for people who enjoy a kid-centric story, with the blending of families and second chances at love. This read was sexy, sweet and dealt with some difficult themes. And as the final book in the Dirty Deeds series, there was also a very nice representation from all of the characters from previous books and great glimpses of their lives now.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Wow!! Down Too Deep has left me speechless, I'm struggling to process all the feels that have taken over. This is my first book by J. Daniels after several recommendations and reading that blurb, I knew I needed to pop my cherry! I spent the day immersed in Nathan and Jenna and their adorable kids. There's nothing that pulls at your heart strings harder than squishy faced kids! This book has it all; a sexy AF single dad with a wounded soul, a forever giving single mom with a heart of gold, kids that make your heart bleed with love for them, and HAWT chemistry that had me turning pages faster than my eyes could keep up. This book delivered EVERYTHING in a perfectly wrapped package.
Nate and Jenna's journey to love was not an easy one. Every step of the way, I am here for it. Their emotional connection was not one that could ever be denied, it put a smile on my face, and tears in my eyes (and I'm not a crier!). I felt everything! Down Too Deep is totally captivating. It's heartfelt, romantic, joyful, a small emotional roller coaster, and damn I loved EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE! These two will be in my dreams for days to come, I don't feel them letting go of my heart for some time. You need to read this book! J. Daniels has delivered a magical combination with this story.
I’ve been a fan of J. Daniels since the beginning. I have read every single word she’s written, and I’ve loved them all. Daniels is a natural storyteller, and she has her own, unique and addictive voice. She writes these all-consuming, grand romances that are unputdownable stories for her readers. For this romance reader, a new release from J. Daniels is a much-anticipated, planned-around experience.
I love the Dirty Deeds series, and I’ve been looking forward to Nate’s story since we met him in Four Letter Word, the first book in the series. Daniels hoarded precious details about Nate throughout this series, doling them out sparingly to readers over the course of the previous three books. As much as I was focused on the previous stories as I was reading them, stumbling upon a detail about Nate was a treat and definitely amped up my anticipation for his story.
A widower, deeply lost in his grief, Nate is not managing his role as a father very well. It’s not that he doesn’t want to be the father that his precious, two-year-old daughter, Marley, needs, he just isn’t sure how to go about doing it. After a much-needed, albeit brutal, wake-up call, in steps an angel in the form of Jenna, a single mom of twins, Oliver and Olivia. She reaches out a hand to help Nate, and he latches on gratefully to that lifeline. Instead of condemnation or judgment, Jenna offers him kindness, patience, grace. His relief is palpable, and he doesn’t squander this opportunity. He pays attention to Jenna, and Marley responds to his attention. My heart was full watching Nate come into his own as a father.
There’s just something about a damaged hero that really does it for me, and oh boy, did my heart ache for Nate. He was haunted by his wife’s death, his was ashamed about his lack of involvement in his young daughter’s life and the fact that he had no clue how to care for her. As the owner of a busy restaurant, it was easy for him to get lost in the day-to-day running of it, but even that was taking a toll on him, and he was just overwhelmed with the constant juggling of all of it. But when Jenna offered to help him, he had no idea that he would be getting so much more than a sitter, a helper—a friend—in the process. Jenna and her kids breathed life back into Nate, and he begins to shed the grief and the guilt, and for the first time in far too long, he feels hopeful—and happiness. He struggles with even that, though, and I was on the edge of my seat as he sifted through those emotions, trying to make sense of what he was thinking, what he was feeling, and what he wanted. The problem is that more than just Nate and Jenna’s hearts are at stake here, slowly but surely everyone was becoming very invested in what was starting to look a whole lot like a family every passing day.
At its core, Down Too Deep was a story about loss, forgiveness, moving forward and starting over. Daniels never shies away from difficult topics or emotions in her stories. She doesn’t hesitate to run her readers through the wringer right along with her characters. The emotion in this book, though, positively wrecked me. WRECKED ME. I wept—crying big, loud, hiccupping sobs—while reading this book. I felt Nate’s guilt like a second skin, I felt his desperation to know even the simplest, smallest, most basic things about his daughter. But I also felt love, my goodness, so much of it, so huge, and coming from all five of them. I felt Nate’s hope bloom, his optimism surge and his heart open to possibility. I felt Jenna and her kids love for this man and his little girl. Oh yes, I felt every single heart-wrenching, tugging and mending feel that Daniels wanted me to feel here.
Not exactly a light and breezy, easy-to-read romcom, Down Too Deep was a moving, heart-breaking story richly told with depth, genuine emotion and passion. There were highs and there were lows, and as difficult as that was at times, it was worth every single step of the journey these characters had to take to find this kind of love. My own emotions were all over the place while reading this book, a true testament to the power of Daniels’ amazing writing here. A truly memorable reading experience and one that will stay with me for a long time to come, Down Too Deep by J. Daniels is a top favorite for the year, and it gets five smooches from me!

*Deep dreamy sigh* I love this book with all my heart! J. Daniels has outdone herself with Down Too Deep. There isn't a sweeter, more heartfelt book out this year. Nate, Jenna, Oliver, Olivia and Marley gave me the swoons with the feels and I couldn't get enough. I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could. Love, love, love!!
I've wanted Nate and Jenna's story for what feels like forever. In the beginning, we see Nate struggling to connect with his two year old daughter, Marley, after neglecting her first so long. He was so clueless and carried a world of guilt for his abandonment. I felt his pain. If I could have, I would have reached in and gave him the world's longest hug. You could definitely sense how much he wanted to change for her. How much he wanted a relationship. With Jenna's help, it was great to see him grow into a pretty fantastic father. If you've read Four Letter Word, you already know what an incredible mom Jenna is. She is the kind of heroine you admire but also want to be best friends with. The way she cares for her twins, Oliver and Olivia, as well as Marley shows just how big her heart is.
I loooved all the moments with the kids. These were the moments that melted my heart the most. They each have their own shinning personalities. They're fun and charismatic but also serious and hopeful. Nate's relationship with Jenna's kids, especially, made my knees weak. I could read a million Nate and Olivia moments and it still wouldn't be enough.
With all the sweetness and tender moments, don't be fooled to think it's lacking in heat. Nate and Jenna created the most delicious tension and longing. When they got their moments away, the made thr most of them.
J. Daniels' has really upped up her game with the last two books in the Dirty Deeds series. Down Too Deep is a beautifully written romance featuring two single parents learning to love again. If you're looking for book filled with so much heart and hope then this one is for you. I can't recommend this one enough. It's without a doubt a top read of 2019!
Guys, at this point, you should know how AMAZING J. Daniels is. I adore her to pieces. There isn't a book I haven't absolutely fell head over heels for. This is a new favorite. And that's REALLY hard y'all... My TOP 2 favorites before DTD was Where I Belong and Bad For You. This one is taking place in the top and I don't know where to put it. It was THAT good guys...
"You bet your sweet f*cking ass it's a date. Do you have any idea how badly I've been wanting to take you out? Seriously, Jenna, I plan on dating you so much, you're going to get sick of it."
"Doubt it." I winked at him.
His hands flew dramatically to his chest. "Is that what it feels like to be winked at?"
"Every time."
Y'all. I am a SUCKER for a single parent book. If it has kids, I'm sold. I don't need any more convincing. 11 times out of 10 I'm going to love it. No doubt about it. Now, if you are not a fan, I think this might change your view. Because you need to meet the twins and this super adorable toddler.
"Oh my God." I laughed.
"Do you think they saw anything?" Nathan asked loudly on purpose. He was smiling now.
"we saw everything!" Olivia answered.
I shook my head at him. "You're unbelievable."
Guys, I don't know what else to say to convince y'all to read... You just need to pick it up... Enough said. ;)
Oh my heart, my sated little heart. J. Daniels really did me in with this Dirty Deeds #4 because Nathan and Jenna were definitely not what I was expecting.
Jenna has a heart of gold and will do anything for anyone, especially since she makes sure everyone comes before her. Technically, she makes sure everyone else's needs come before hers.
I was especially taken with Olivia and Oliver. Those two kids were two little gems. I mean, Jenna had it good with these two kids and who wouldn't want a woman that has a heart of gold and kids that are so damn lovable and irresistible right!!
Maybe Jenna and Nathan didn't get off to a good start but when she saved his butt by offering to watch his little daughter while he worked is what did him in and their relationship sparked from that moment on. She was the most hands-on babysitter ever. I would definitely kill to have a babysitter like Jenna. A loving, caring and nurturing woman who also loved others the same as she did her own.
J. Daniels really gets praised for writing such a wonderfully romantic book.
I don't think I sighed so much in any other book the way I did with this one.
To be honest, I was a bit on the nervous side after reading the blurb, especially since it's been a bit since I've read from J. Daniels. But my heart is so full after finishing Down Too Deep that I shouldn't have worried at all.
The first meeting between Nathan and Jenna had me chucking and cringing a bit. It was different and they didn't exactly get off on the right foot. But when Nathan finds himself in a predicament, it was Jenna, unexpectedly, to the rescue. I loved her patience and compassion. And how she gently gave Nathan the push he needed to open up and build a relationship with Marley.
It was the small moments captured between questions for curious kids, dinners and scheduling that made Jenna and Nathan's slow-burning romance really soar. The hand holding, the 'talk to me', the photo updates of the day. The relationship between Jenna and the kids, and Nathan and the kids was the right amount of sweetness to break up some of the heaviness of what had happened to them in the past. And how could they not fall for someone who so obviously adored their children.
Down Too Deep is the kind of book I love. Rife with emotion. Characters that were wonderfully flawed and impossible not to root for. Especially since they had both lost much in the past. Jenna and Nathan's story was everything a second chance at happily ever after should be.
I absolutely loved this book the story the characters the writing everything just works.
Nathan is a widowed single dad to little Marley. Tortured by grief and guilt he's shut himself off from his responsibilities. Jenna a devoted single mum to adorable twins Olivia and Oliver. Nate has become a workaholic and when his parents give him some harsh truths about his parenting he has to make changes . Jenna steps in to help him with childcare which starts off beginning of their story.
I adored Nate he's such an interesting character to read. You get taken along on the journey as he learns to be a dad to the little girl he loves. Jenna and her kids are just what he needs to show him how much he has to live for. Soul mates seems cheesy but they are they just fit together. I was happy that there was no quick fix to their problems and they had to work hard. The children bring laughs to a story that is emotional and poignant and full of hope.
If you like single parent books you will love this book.
Seriously, there is nothing sweeter than reading about amazing children in books. I'm such a sucker for them. And these kids... top notch!
The blurb for DOWN TOO DEEP summarized events quite succinctly, so I'm gonna delve into how this story made me feel. Soooo good!! Between Nathan finding his love for life again, learning about his daughter, falling more in love with her than ever, how could I not feel absolutely incredible while reading this book? Add in Jenna and her huge heart, precocious children, unparalleled generosity and kindness, and it was almost too easy to give this story all the stars.
To me, romance stories should be about beautiful characters and their impossibly beautiful journey to love. With this story, J. Daniels delivers and I can't recommend it enough!!
This was so unbelievably good; I adored every single moment of it! This was beyond a romance book, it was more than two people overcoming their past and moving forward, it was watching a family form. From the first moment, that meet cute in the men’s bathroom doorway, to the meet cute in the dining room of the restaurant, to the meet cute in the doorway of Nate’s home, this family started the loom that forever joined them
It had it’s moments, because, the two adults in charge of this have issues and baggage. Even their overwhelming attraction can’t smooth out those feelings and past haunts that they have. The fragility of human life, the unknowns that you need to suffer, the confusion of things being undone, unsaid, unfelt. The seesaw that Jenna and Nate face internally is even more weighted by the love and concern they have their children. The consequences greater, larger, more impactful. And I needed to read it all, experience it, have them laid bare for me, so I could love right along with them!
