Just like the first one, I love the concept of this book. It’s like a mixture of all my favourite fairy tales in one book. I think the idea of Father Time is so different than anything else I’ve read. I do wish that some of the chapters were longer. Like I would have loved more to happen in the Everblue. Otherwise great and excited to read the third

I enjoyed this book so much. The only thing I hate is the fact that I'll have to wait until December for the last book. Second books in a series always seem to fall flat for me and do not have as much adventure as the first book. Emily doesn't have this problem with her second books. Into the Hourglass had just as much if not more adventure, intrigue, and "oh, wow" moments as Before the Broken Star. I love Everley even more now that I've learned more about her and what drives her. She wants to do what's right and she wants to find love and live a long, happy life. She wants a life where she's not handicapped by a disability and I can understand that fully. There are things she just can't do but she is adept at doing what she can and finding ways around her handicap. I loved Jamison in this book. He still was Everley's conscious but he still let her make decisions and didn't try to stifle her in anyway. It was clear that their love and appreciation grew for each other despite how the first book ended. I came to like Laverick and Claret more in this book. I guess in the first one they were really minor characters who kind of faded to the background when they weren't mentioned but they became more prominent in Into the Hourglass and they became even better friends to Everley and Jamison in this one. I also loved Radella. She was one feisty pixie who had a way of making her feelings known even though they didn't understand her language. Osric was a new face that I ended up liking and trusting. He was a nice ally for Everley to make and he seemed genuine in helping her in her quest to get her sword back.
Markham needs to be swallowed by a whale and actually digested. He is an awful being who you think can't get any worse, but always proves you wrong in the end. In addition to Markham there were some more bad guys that showed up, giants and sorcerers and even the queen turned out to be pretty horrible. I loved how well they were portrayed. Even though all of them were bad they had backstories and we're two dimensional.
We get to go to a new world in Into the Hourglass and I'm always a sucker for water worlds so it was fun to see the merrows, selkies, and other new beings that Everley and her friends got to meet. This story was so fun and I enjoyed every moment of reading it. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. The action was continuous. I was sad with how it ended but Everely has so many people that do care for her and that will risk everything to help her. I'm happy her circle of family and friends has grown and she's starting to trust more people. I liked that the most about this book. Everely opened up about what she was going through and more people found out about her clock heart and they didn't shun her. I cannot wait to read Everafter Song and see how it all plays out for Everely.

I received an eARC thanks to the publisher and netgalley.
This book had a lot of meat to it, a lot to digest and think about as the story continues. It flowed well with the transition from the first book, picking up right where it left off at the beginning.
There’s a lot more development of the story, characters, what’s going on - you learn and understand quite a bit more as Everley continues her harrowing journey to reach her goals. Her goals and wishes seem to shift some in this part of the story as well and it brings others goals and stories more to light some.
Things get way more intense here in this book and it left me feeling a lot - so many emotions that I’m not sure what to do with them.
There are so many nods and spins and retellings on fairytale/ folklore stories/ stories I remember from my childhood etc, it’s fun and wild.
Even though this part of the series ended on a happy note, I have conflicting emotions about leaving this part of the story behind and I’m sad about parts of it too. I’m having a slight book hangover here and I’m nervous about what happens next when the end of this series comes out.
If you haven’t read the first in this series, Before the Broken Star then you need to get on that before you read this and get ready for some awesomeness mixed with all the emotions. You don’t want to miss this continuing adventure.

Everley is on a quest into the otherworlds. Their task … to find the sword of Avelyn that was stolen by Prince Killian. Yes, the same Prince Killian who killed her entire family and left her for dead. If they don’t find the sword in time … the seven worlds will collapse. Like all quests, the path before them is not safe and with her heart clock beginning to fail, Everley wonders if she will even survive this experience. Will Everley be able to retrieve the sword in time? What secrets will she discover along the way?
Into the Hourglass is the second book in The Evermore Chronicles. King has taken the fantasy world she created in the first book and has expanded it even more. The adventure is high and drama is rampant as Everley sails the high seas and enters forbidden landscapes. The characters learn about the truths behind some myths and everyone must face the unknown head-on. I recommend Into the Hourglass to everyone who has already read Before the Broken Stars. PLEASE … don’t jump into the second book without it.

Excellent sequel. The plot continued at a fast pace, the storyline didn’t drop, the mystery deepened. I felt more invested in the characters as they developed. The magic and the imagery of the world is fascinating, I love the realm the author created for this story. I am very excited for the third installment which comes out this year.
Review of first book in series, Before the Broken Star: Great fantasy, enjoyable read. Highly recommend this new series, and all three books will be available this year, so no waiting!

I really loved this sequel to Before the Broken Star!
Everley is determined to fulfill her promise to Father Time to stop Killian and obtain her sword and her friends find themselves on quite a wild adventure as she seeks to do so. Killian always seems to be one step ahead of them and this book enlightens the reader to even more duplicity on his part. I enjoyed the character development and really liked Everley much better at the end of this book then of the first. She learns to let herself feel a little more throughout the book and begins to stop using her clock heart as an excuse not to let herself get close to others. Jamison remains a favorite character of mine. His bravery and chivalry knows no bounds. I also enjoyed the budding romance immensely, as I have been rooting for it all along.
I am anxious for the third installment to come out and I'm sure I won't be able to put that book down either!!!!

Everly is determined to get revenge for the death of her family. The journey was thrilling and full of twists and turns. Pirates, fairies, magic of time and time hopping. What will be next?

With every page, this series gets more and more thrilling. Emily King sure knows how to twist your hearts with heart-pounding action and mind-blowing plot twists. I think my favorite part of Hourglass was the clear character development of the MC, Everley Donovan, as well as the relationship between her and Jamison evolves. Throughout her mission to retrieve the sword of Avenel and to stop her nemesis, Prince Killian Markham, Everley learns that the heart is much more than just an organ, and that just because a machine works in place of a physical heart doesn't mean she's incapable of love after all.. I also love the hero-villain dynamic between Markham and Everley. It kept me interested and on my towns. Now I can't wait for Everafter song!

I have always been a fan of this authors work, and this series does not disappoint! She writes with such detail. I truly enjoy every word on the page. This series is is intense, and I really loved the story! I can’t wait to see what happens!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This book was very good. Very different front yeh Hundreth Queen. Dare I say better? You can really tdo life that Emily has grown as a writer with her storytelling and I cannot wait for the next book.

Meh. The story felt like it was repeating itself, and I didn't feel like this book added anything to the plot or the world. Yes, we got some more insights into the villain, what he's after, and the different worlds through time. But they felt...lackluster. I'm still giving it three stars because of the character development, and because it kept me entertained enough to keep skimming/reading to the end.

Into the Hourglass is the sequel to Before the Broken Star in the Evermore chronicles by Emily R. King. Guys this series is wonderful. I cannot say enough glowing things about it.
The first book wat touted as a Pinocchio retelling. I don’t know if that carried over into this book because there was still a hint of that which could be just carry over from the first book but I got a strong Peter Pan vibe off of this book.
Book 2, Into the Hourglass, picks up pretty much where book 1 ended. Everly Donovan and her friends are out to sea trying to catch up to Markham, the conniving Prince who is the source of all the trouble in the Seven Worlds so far, a heartless villain so it seems.
Everly and her crew wind up in a separate world where she has to beat time to get back the Sword of Avelyn and then back to her own world with Markham in tow. She must stop Markham from stealing yet another relic and hopefully turn him into the queen before time runs out.
Along the way she must rescue her husband, her friends and ultimately herself.
This book was just as good as the first and I am super excited for the next book in the series.
I love the fantastical adventure and the slow burn romance. This book, this series, has pretty much got it all.
So my little booklings, of you like a YA fantasy that’s fast paced fun and romantic. This book is for you. I definitely recommend this series!
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
I’d like to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read this book for a fair and honest review.

Into the Hourglass is a worthy sequel (or SEAquel) to the first book in this series--Before the Broken Star. I recommend starting with the first book, although the author does a nice job explaining what happened in book 1 without being repetitive.
I was skeptical about this series, but it is really starting to grow on me. The world -building is complex, the characters deep, and it seems like the author has thought a lot about where she wants the story to go. I feel like this book was full of tons of Easter eggs that will be revealed in the next book. Nonetheless, this book still provided some answers on key questions.
I really look forward to the next installment! Thank you Netgalley for a free eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Another amazing adventure in the Evermore Chronicles that will keep you guessing until the last page!
What I loved 🖤⚓️🐳:
1. The prologue explains that the sword is really a broken star and Everley thinks she is a broken girl because of her clock heart. Everley’s character development is truly beautiful as she realizes that just because bad things have happened to her—she’s not broken. Her potential is still endless.
2. The fantasy world expands to seven worlds and the reader learns Killian Markham’s true ancestry and villainy. The reader also learns more about Father Time and the different races.
3. Jamison continues to be everything honorable and good. Their romance blooms like a daisy.
4. Laverick and Claret get more page time and they’re both delightful.
5. I loved the theme that time is love and love is time.
I’m SO ready to sail into the final book, Everafter Song!

This is the sequel to Before the Broken Star and sees Everley chasing the sword that was stolen by Prince Killian. Everley is determined to fulfil her promise to Father Time but to do so means she needs to convince those around her that it’s possible to travel to a world under the seas.
As with the previous story it seems that Killian is always one step in front and poor Everley and her friends do seem to be forever playing catch up. I very much enjoyed that we were introduced to new characters particularly Osric and foresee that at some point this journey will see Everley learning a lot more about the world of the Elves . As Everley travels we meet Giants and even Mermaids but it’s the inclusion of those we’ve previously got to know Cat and the Fox that gave this warmth and feeling. Plus a certain Pixie and her attitude just kept me smiling. Alas I cannot divulge what happens but I can say there’s a shocking revelation involving Everleys family and if you thought Killian had a simple plan then you clearly underestimate both him and indeed this author.
My only real issue with this book is that Father Time seems to leave Everley to struggle alone. Although I hasten to add I did truly enjoy this and look forward to traveling again with Everley as her battles with Killian are far from over. This is a vibrant, fascinating world that takes the reader on a journey with characters to cheer for and what more could I want ?
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Into the Hourglass is the newest story of Everly and Jamison in the Evermore Chronicles. It is a fast paced adventure through mythical lands with pirates, elves, and mermaids as Everly tries to get back the Sword of Avelyn. I loved the strong female characters and witty writing. Emily R. King is quickly growing into one of my favorite authors. Add this one to your next read list!

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one, especially the beginning, but I did really enjoy the ending. The mythology got a lot more complicated but I like where the story is headed. I expect there to be at least 2 more books with how things ended.

Into the Hourglass continues where Before the Broken Star left off. It was satisfying to find out what happened to many of the characters that I cared (and didn’t care) about in the first book. Many minor loose ends were tied up, but it felt like the plot moved sloooowly. It was an ambitious story that didn’t quite come together. I almost gave up at the 80% mark but forced myself to finish. It was okay (3 stars, maybe 2.5) but I think I’m done with this world.

I recieved an advanced copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.
I am so thankful for getting this ARC not too long after finishing the first novel! This novel picks up just a little bit after the last left off Everley and her crew are taking an adventure into another new world that may be far more dangerous then what they encountered before. Everley needs to focus on her mission and get the sword back for Father Time and stop the evil prince from destroying all the worlds.
This novel is action packed and lots of twists and turns as Everley and her crew learn to trust each other and that they have to work together if they are going to survive. I love this book with the MERMAIDS!!! Well, they are called merrows.... and just the visual descriptions put you in the middle of the worlds they are bounding through. You get a lot more answers of Everley's past and thank goodness for that last chapter, because I thought the book was ending with the chapter before (because it was beautiful). However, the final chapter smoothed out a few more things for me and made me much more at peace...and ready for the next novel! Another amazing work of art for Emily and I cannot wait for the next!

**Disclaimer: I was given an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley. Please also note, there are spoilers below for the first book in this series, Before the Broken Star.**
Title Into the Hourglass
Author Emily R. King
Description from Amazon
Everley Donovan’s mission: retrieve the hallowed sword of Avelyn stolen by the wicked Prince Killian, who slayed her family and left her for dead. Should she fail, the seven worlds will come to an end, as could time itself. And no one treasures time more than Everley, whose lifesaving clock heart cannot beat forever. She has set sail with a rogue crew for the otherworlds, where the key to dethroning the prince lies deep within the Land Under the Wave.
But passage through these unknown seas—where horrors lurk and pirates rove—proves a treacherous gamble. The Land Under the Wave was not made for humans, particularly one with a fragile clock heart. Here, Everley’s tragic past resurfaces unsolved questions. Here, too, the prince has hidden secrets more precious than pearls, secrets that could fracture the future forevermore. Everley must take back her sword and break free from this watery world before her time runs out…or so will everyone else’s.
Initial Thoughts
While I fully admit that the first book in this series was a Bookstagram influenced purchase, I adored it and couldn’t wait to read the second book. I loved Everley’s character and her inner struggle to determine if the revenge she’s wanted for so long is worth the cost. While she might not be traditionally “morally grey”, I really enjoyed her storyline in the first book as she begins to learn that she does not need a beating heart to love.
Cover Art
I have this book preordered already. But I couldn’t wait to read it. I jumped at the chance to read it on NetGalley. I LOVE this cover too. I can’t wait to see the book without the jacket (because I’m sure it will be just as beautiful as the first). This cover has major shelf appeal and this is a series that I am very proud to have in my library.
Series Value
The first book had me totally sold on this series. After having read, Into the Hourglass, there is no doubt in my mind that this is an amazing series. So much potential and so many twists and turns. I love that this series is so captivating and so full of surprises.
I have read a lot of books. Like, a lot. But this series keeps me on my toes. Major props to Emily R. King for keeping me guessing. I love it.
Some Things I Loved
The addition of new characters. I was very pleased to meet Osric and learn his back story as well as narrowing down the characters from the first book. I really like the Fox and the Cat and I was glad to see that they were included in this story. Quinn was missed, but her absence opened the door for some very welcome background that came from new characters.
The scene with the sea hag and the princess of the merrows. I loved that scene. It gave me all kinds of polyjuice potion feels from the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I knew it wasn’t going to go perfectly and I couldn’t wait to see how it played out. That was definitely one of my favorite scenes.
Everley and Jamison’s countryside reunion. I’m so glad she finally admitted her feelings for him.
I also really love that the endings of both Before the Broken Star and Into the Hourglass are somewhat final. They both capture the end of a section of story and feel conclusive. While there are unanswered questions, I didn’t feel like there were any major cliffhangers (something I appreciate). I like that each book both wraps up neatly and transitions to the next part of the story.
One Thing I Wasn’t Crazy About
I hated that Everley walked right into Killian’s trap. Again. I was so disappointed in her during that moment. It’s not a plot flaw so much as it’s my disappointment in the hero of this story making, what I think of as, a stupid mistake. [Insert the shame bell from Game of Thrones]
Final Thoughts
I loved this book. Looking back, I actually love Before the Broken Star even more now because of it. Into the Hourglass made an already strong story, even better. Emily R. King has built a truly captivating and fascinating world with characters that I am heavily invested in. I cannot wait to continue to read this story.

Recommendations for Further Reading
Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller – although Before the Broken Star is not a tale of pirates, a large portion of it takes place on the sea and travelling. Also, Alosa and Riden remind me so much of Everley and Jamison.
Everless and Evermore by Sara Holland – I think these books are similar to Before the Broken Star because of the time element. Everley constantly worries about living on borrowed time and not knowing when her time will run out. The setting of Everless has an interesting take on life, immortality, and the idea of borrowed time.
Dark Breaks the Dawn and Bright Burns the Night by Sara B. Larson – this is another story with an interesting concept of time. Also, there are strong parallels between the plot through elements such as romance, curses, and family legacies.
Release Date August 20, 2019
Don’t miss the final book in this epic trilogy coming out in December 2019!
