Difficult to rate a book with only a chapter to peruse. As is, it's the thoughts the calligrapher has regarding this particular client and his new wife. She has left a hidden message in their wedding program and he has discovered and deciphered it! But what does this mean? Until there is more to read, not a clue!!!
Awaiting the remainder of the book before I can make an informed decision.
I received this excerpt as a complimentary copy for an unbiased review. The opinion opinion expressed is my iwn.
If I were willing to rate a book by its first chapter alone, I would give Love Lettering 5 stars. A fabulous opening to what I hope is a foretelling of what’s to come. Clayborn's writing style is sublime. Consider me hooked!
Kate Clayton is one of my favorite authors and I am excited to read the first chapter of her newest book. I’m intrigued with a character who makes a living on hand lettering as an artist. The author did a wonderful job describing the characters and this first chapter gives just enough that I can’t wait to keep reading.
Meg Mackworth has become well-known for her almost magical skill in matching fonts with people and their personalities. These days she focused on hand lettering journals, date planners, and calendars; she has also designed and lettered wedding invitations. Meg is so connected to what she creates with letters that sometimes the letters tell her truths about herself. And sometimes they tell her truths about her clients. One such client tracks her down and wants an explanation for something he discovered that she lettered.
I want an explanation too, and I am impatiently looking forward to reading the whole book!
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for an advance look at an excerpt of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Why do authors tease us with the 1st chapter of their next book months before it is available? Just finished the 1st chapter of LOVE LETTERING and all I can say is curse you @kateclayborn for creating a perfect romantic beginning and then making me wait until Dec. for more.
So, I didn't know going in that this was only one chapter! But, in saying that, I absolutely love Kate Clayborn and I can't wait to read the rest of Love Lettering. The first chapter pulled me in and I know this book will be bringing me all the feels as all her books do! Please read everything by this author if you want to laugh, cry, and fall in love! I received an ARC for my fair and honest review.
It's really hard to make a review on this, as they only give you one chapter to read. I don't think it's fair to give a five star review based on one chapter. I was a bit confused as I kept thinking I was reading the middle of the book. No characters were really built yet, and yet it was like I should know these people all ready. Yes, most definitely I want to read more, find out if the whole book is well written, but I can't give an honest review until I've read the whole book. I will change my rating after I've finished the book.
I was kindly sent the first chapter of this book from NetGalley. The writing is very descriptive of writing styles, which I found interesting as I like calligraphy! The main character has clearly been through a difficult time and the the chapter finishes on a cliff hanger so I will have to wait with anticipation to read on!
Teaser review...
Its safe to say my interests are peaked. What I read of the book was wonderful. I loved the detail that went into the character introductions and it's so unfair that the entire teaser ended on a cliffhanger. Cannot wait for the release, hoping for an advanced copy.
This teaser was provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.

Ugh!!!! I didn’t realise this was only an excerpt when I requested it and while I really want to give it only 1 star for that, the fact is I want to know more! I want to know what happens next, I want to know how she knew; I need to know!
I hadn't realized that this was only an excerpt when I requested it! The formatting was out of wack which made reading it hard, and the amount of story presented makes it hard to get a real feel for what's yet to come in the story. There's a lot of The Wedding Planner vibes going on in the first little glimpse especially the fact that Meg seems to share JLo/Mary Fiore's gift of predicting doomed marriages.
This is an excerpt from the novel. I've read other titles by Kate Clayborn and enjoyed them. The premise and characters are appealing here and I can't wait to read the novel.
I've only just recently read my first book by Kate Clayborn, but enjoyed it so much I couldn't wait to read this excerpt from her forthcoming book, especially as it sounded really unusual.
Meg makes her living by designing hand lettered custom journals etc. and after a piece in The Times has become quite famous and known as The Planner of Park Slope. But supposedly she can also read signs in relationships that other people miss and last year wove a secret sign into some wedding invitations as she knew the marriage was doomed for failure. The first chapter of this book is when the bridegroom comes back to the shop and asks how she knew - he'd found the secret code!
And... then it finished! Just when it was getting interesting, and I wanted to read more and know more about this lovely world of lettering and secrets.
But it's a great concept for a book and I now can't wait until it's published, I feel inspired to rush out and buy some calligraphy pens and have a go myself!
Argh! I did not anticipate this being an extract for some reason. Left on a suspensful cliffhanger, I can't wait to find out what clue she left in the lettering!
I've never read this author before, but I could tell just by the first pages that I really click with her writing. This easily snags your interest and curiosity, I had no problems on that score. I would definitely read the full novel when I'm able to! The synopsis gave me high hopes and the sample did not disappoint.
Absolutely LOVED the sneak peak of this book and I can't wait until it comes out in January... what do I have to do to get my hands on it early?!? What a cliffhanger in the first chapter!!
I guess I should have read the description on NetGalley more closely... because all I want now is to read the entire book!! UGH.
I wish NetGalley offered more than the first chapter! Or maybe that was the publisher’s doing. Either way, Kate Clayborn is a master and one of the few contemporary romance authors I delight to read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of this!
Cute premise. Looking forward to reading the full book when it comes out. I really enjoy this author.
What a tease! A calligrapher and a hot angry guy who wants to solve the mystery of how a “shopgirl” knew his marriage would fail? I’m intrigued....looking forward to reading the entire book!
Why would you do this to me? lol I’m totally hooked and I need more! Don’t leave me hanging like this 🤣
