Warm, funny and endearing. Meg Mackworth, an up and coming hand letterer, is stunned to see the handsome Reid Sutherland walk in. As soon as she sees him her thoughts immediately plunge back to the wedding programs she designed for him and his fiancee. He couldn't possibly have seen the message that she accidentally/on purpose snuck into the programs....or could he?
This novel is for anyone that is in the mood for a light romance novel, especially if you love New York City, the amazing art of hand lettering and signs of all sorts.
Thank you to #NetGalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read an advance copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Such a cute 1st chapter and I can’t WAIT to read the whole thing. So excited to finally get the ARC for the full story. Will leave feedback on that file.
"Love Lettering" is such an adorable romance that had me charmed from the very beginning. I enjoyed following along with Meg and Reid as they learned how to speak each other's "language." I ended this book with a smile on my face, and can't wait to read more books by Kate Clayborn!
Based on the excerpt, the book sounds great and it really intrigued me with that cliffhanger at the end. I seriously can't wait for the book to come out!
.
This was just an excerpt but the excerpt was AMAZING and I COULD NOT WAIT FOR THE REAL THING!! It's going to be amazing I can tell.
First of all, I'd like the thank Netgalley and Kensington Books for sharing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Initially all I had on this was the first chapter excerpt and that interested me enough to look forward to the rest of the book. The wait was definitely worth it on this title. The story just got better and better for me and I found this to be a great story overall.
There's Meg, a hand-letterer who has made a bit of a splash in New York in the past year. She previously handled mostly weddings but she stopped that and now mostly does day planners for those with a bit of extra cash to spend. Meg's a bit of an oddball, seeing the world mostly in terms of lettering in all its various forms.
Then there's Reid who is a number's person. I guess you say he's to numbers what Meg is to letters. Reid and Meg were acquainted about a year before the book opens when Reid attended the shop where Meg worked to finalize choices on the wedding products that Meg was creating. He appears on the day the story begins when he returns to the shop to ask Meg about a secret message he discovered.
I really loved both of these quirky characters and found the development of their story to be a bit of a slow burn connection that places them together. There are lots of aspects to both their characters that are revealed as the story continues and they have some big hurdles to overcome individually and together.
I highly commend the writer for creating such a lovely book. I will definitely seek out more of her writing. I rate this about 4 and a half stars overall.
I normally have a no excerpt rule, but I made an exception for Love Lettering after reading this charming synopsis. The first chapter definitely left me wanting more of Meg and Reid’s story, which is the point. This is going to be a delightful book to cozy up with this winter.
This was a sneak peak first chapter of Love Lettering. I LOVED it!! I was immediately drawn in and I can't wait to read the rest of the book!!!
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC for a fair and honest review.
Kate Clayborn is at the top of her game with this one. Spectacular writing, with deep, deep POV in the first person (if first person isn't your favourite, don't worry; you feel so much that you're in Meg's head that you don't even notice that you are), really beautiful metaphors about lettering and signs, the opposites-attract (letters/numbers) romance, the struggles around friendship and connection. Because we only get Meg's perspective, Reid is a bit of an enigma, but it works, especially as Meg's keen observations (which Clayborn does so well in her other books, and here as well) peel back the layers and reveal who he is. It starts a bit slow, but it's laying the foundation for...not a slow burn, but a gradual deepening of feelings between Meg and Reid before they admit them. This is next-level romance writing.
Loved this excerpt - can't wait to read the full book! I have never read Kate Clayborn before and this was a great intro. I love her writing style!
Oh wow, what a marvellous first chapter! I can’t wait to read more and see how the story unfolds. That cliffhanger at the end was just mean! But I am thrilled to say I have recently received the full ARC. So I’m eagerly looking forward to reading on. For now, all I will say is I’m loving how the heroine’s art of calligraphy has been woven into the narrative.
Please note: I received an advance digital copy of this book through NetGalley from Kensington Books and Kate Clayborn in exchange for a honest review. This does not influence my opinions in any way.
What can I say about Love Lettering? The writing is so gloriously evocative of the craft of the heroine that I dreamt in script? That I almost wore out the highlight button on my Kindle? That Reid and Meg have my heart?
I fell in love with Kate Clayborn's writing with the Chance of a Lifetime series and this book just cements her place as an important voice in the Romance genre.
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC. I will write a better review when I have collected my feelings!
I didn't realize this was only an excerpt from the book when I downloaded it, and was only disappointed when I got to the end of the chapter and realized I would have to wait for the rest! I've already placed copies on order at my library. I think with the increased interest in art journals and bullet journals, this book is being published at a opportune time. The main character has a voice I want to hear more from, and the tantalizing bit from the love interest just piqued my interest. I can't give it 5 stars after reading only a chapter, but if the rest of the book lives up to the promise of the first chapter, I will gladly recommend this one.
I apologize, but I somehow missed that this was an excerpt only. The ending of what I assume is the first chapter leaves me certainly intrigued. I want to know more.
However, I don't review excepts on my blog so I won't be featuring Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn on my blog at this time. I'd love the opportunity to review the full book if given the opportunity.
I look forward to working with you again in the future.
A cute sweet excerpt. Wanted to read more!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is just a taste of Love Lettering, a very intriguing one at that, so much so that I'm looking forward to reading the entire book.
This is a nice excerpt to what looks to be a wonderful and interesting novel. I am looking forward to reading the whole thing!
This was only an excerpt of the book ... the first chapter. I have since been sent the full ARC and have left a review on that.
Meg Mackworth, who makes a living from creating beautiful bespoke journals, made a mistake. One little hidden word in a wedding programme that she never expected to be noticed, has been. One year later Reid Sutherland turns back up in the shop to find out how Meg knew his wedding was doomed to fail.
I liked the journal/calligraphy concept to the book which gives it a very current theme and of course it's set in New York, which is always a winner in my mind.
I really liked how the characters were written and enjoyed the journey of Meg and Reid with their initial akwardness growing into something deeper. I also liked the added side to Reid's story which I thought was in keeping with his character. The ending wrapped up the story well.
Fantasy Film Cast: (Sometimes I see the characters as famous people, some even as characters they have played!) Zooey Deschanel as Meg and I saw Reid as Daniel Gillies (but as his character Elijah Mikaelson from The Originals)
Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for the ARC
I absolutely loved this book! Read this in 24 hours. The details of the story were unique. The characters were relatable and had so much to them, definitely not the flat characters you find in a lot of romance novels. Best I've read since One Day In December. I would 100% recommend this!
As this is just an excerpt, I have very few opinions at this point. I am interested to read the rest of the book, though, and just received a full ARC that I'm excited about. So, thank you, Kensington!
