sample read is promising, a different theme, concerning friends brought together through relatives cancer and ensuing bereavement .
Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for the sample. I did not realize that this was only a sample of the novel, what I did read was pretty good. I might pick up the finished novel.
The Sunday Potluck Club by Melissa Storm
TBD rating. So far 3/5 Stars but I am hoping to pick up the rest of this book as this is only a excerpt of the book.
I read an excerpt of this book and it left me wanting more. The Sunday Potluck Club is a group of four women who are bound together by the death of someone important in their lives. It is a story of their friendship and the support they give to each other. This was such a sweet book about overcoming loss and finding friendship in the hardest of times.
I liked that this story takes about death but yet did it in a light hearted way that wasn’t “heavy” and heart wrenching! A quick story about friendship and opening your heart for love too! It lacked some depth I thought as I couldn’t feel as
Connected with the characters as I would have liked
This excerpt was very interesting. I liked the setting in Alaska. I can see the group of friends are very close and an interested to see how their relationships develop throughout the book.
Based on just this preview, this looks to be a good read on friendship and loss. Hopefully some love will surface as well.
Four women are brought together through hardship. They each have a parent that has been through cancer treatment. They forged a friendship that supports them through success and despair.
I received only an excerpt of this book, but it was just ok to me. I didn't feel connected to the characters at all. I felt that the story was being forced and while I love the premise, it just fell a little flat for me. Wish I liked it more!
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this excerpt in exchange for my honest review.
I first became acquainted with these characters and this author from a story in the book Home Sweet Home, which I received an ARC of in exchange for an honest review. I loved the story and searched for other books by Melissa Storm and came upon a sample of the first 10 chapters of this book, and wanted to give it a try!
Amy, Hazel, and Bridget recently lost loved ones to cancer and Nichole’s father has gone into remission. All four friends connected through a parent’s cancer battle, and are now trying to readjust to life and make a new normal for themselves. The characters are relatable, the story that I have read so far makes me want to read the rest (what is Olivia’s story, is Bridget dealing with the loss of her mother, etc.) - I am looking forward to reading more! I don’t feel like I can give 5 stars unless I read more, so 4 will have to do for now!
This is a review of the advanced reader edition of only the Excerpt. From the excerpt this is an interesting story of friends who form a support group/potluck meal club. Their individual stories are very emotionally charged with illnesses of family members and other family strife. Since this is just an excerpt, I don't feel comfortable commenting on the writing of the book at this time and will default to a five star review as I don't think it's fair to the writer to give any other review on just a portion of the book. Overall I did enjoy what I read very much but just like commercials for a movie it's hard to tell from an excerpt from a book if you've already read all the best parts or if there is even more in store in the full book.
This was an excerpt of the book and oh man did it leave me wanting more! In the short bit that I've read it had me feeling all the emotions. The characters leap off the page and make you feel so attached to them from the get go. I can't wait to read the rest!
Thanks to netgalley for the excerpt of The Sunday Potluck Club. I am looking forward to reading more about the friends and their journeys through grief.
Need to read more before I can review. The excerpt is good and can't wait to read the book! So far very promising. Love this author!
This review is of an excerpt, not the entire book. It was a good introduction to the main characters and how they met. Bridget and Amy meet on the cancer ward of the local hospital where they are helping their parent fight cancer. Their support unit grows as more women meet with them for Sunday dinner. Can't wait to see if the rest of the book does justice to the beginning. I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. The entire ARC will be available in January.
I only had an excerpt of this book but I can tell based on the first seven chapters that this book is going to be one that a lot of people will love. The friendship group gave me serious Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants vibes and I love a good solid friendship group. I look forward to march so I can pick up right where I left off!
You'll find this interesting how these gals became friends and how each handles grief and cope after their parent lost their battle with cancer. They still support each other.
I I received an excerpt copy of The Sunday Pot luck from Netgalley for an Honest review.
We start off with one of the characters mom passing from cancer. It’s a bunch of friends that have come together to support their friend after her moms passing. It really gave me Pretty Little Liar vibes. I’m not hating it just gave me those vibes. I did receive an excerpt and it really left me wanting to read more. I can’t wait for release day!
A solid excerpt. I hope I get to read the rest of the story, and that it is as good as I'm expecting based on this.
I could not get a good feel for this book since it was only an excerpt. I will not be recommending it for purchase.
Loved the title, loved the concept, however THE SUNDAY POTLUCK CLUB, while a terrific story idea by Melissa Storm, failed to capture the rich complexity of women both mourning and celebrating life in all its complexity and interesting turns. *sigh!* All the characters felt the same to me, like slightly altered versions of the same person, and the continual flipping into thoughts and action and trite expectations of feelings and misunderstandings....I don't mean to beat a dead story, but very disappointed.
