This excerpt didn’t grab me and in fact I found myself speedreading over some parts to get into the book more, but it didn’t hook me and give me a desire to read the rest of the book. I found it a little dull and repetitive, and battled to keep up with each of the characters back stories, who’s parents had died etc and could not identify with any if them, even though I have also lost a parent to cancer. The little bits that did hook me were Olivia - the mute child and her back story and Trent and the possibilities there. Those would be interesting story lines to tease out more but the monotony of the club, the obsession with death etc, I found that boring and did not hook me into wanting to read more of this book.

Honestly, ok, didn't think too much about it. I had some trouble differentiating the characters, they somehow just blended together, I don't know, overall very forgettable for me, not my style. It wasn't bad though, I just wasn't really digging it...

What an incredible set-up. In just a few pages you can feel the love, loss, friendship and empathy that vibrates from this book. It's certainly a bittersweet tale, but you quickly want to be friends with these women. Their characteristics really shine through the page. I'm very much interested in reading more of this.

Melissa Storm is anew author for me and I enjoyed this review copy of The Sunday Potluck Club. This story really could be a "real life" story, as you never know where you make friends, who end up being the most important one's in your life.

Bridget and Amy met in a cancer ward, overcoming loss and heartache, friendship developed and they began sharing suppers, laughter and tears.

Neither of them are about to let hardship knock. Both planning on continuing their lives as previously planned before meeting in the cancer ward, but not immediately. So the Sunday Potluck Club was born. Bridget and Amy invited other women who have lost a loved one to join them and find solace, company and understanding, and a potluck meal.

As time passes, both ladies and some of their group find solace and love among those they reach out to.

A great novel, well written and full of warmth. Definite 5 stars.

The excerpt was good. I didn’t love the beginning and thought it was a bit heavy and long but towards the end it got better as the dogs were introduced. I look forward to reading more.

I am all for an empowered adult read and this was such a read. I loved the support each character gave to the overall plot. A storyline that made sisterhood on point again. There was the long suffering light under a bushel character and her solid and clear eyed defender. I liked the importance each took to stay strong in the face of individual challenge. I firmly recommend this new take on sisterhood in modern times.

I am intrigued by this book sample by Melissa Storm. I have lost family members to cancer and I am interested in how she tells the rest of the women's stories. Everyone grieves differently but when I saw some of my own behaviors, it made me take a look at myself. I look forward to seeing the full story.

I enjoyed the pre view read I received through Netgalley. Meeting new friends as adults can be hard to do for anyone. meeting on a cancer ward must be even more. However, this is so well written with humor and warmth.

Thank you to the publisher for this excerpt. In these initial chapters, I already found myself liking this cast of young friends united do to the worst circumstances and support each other to hopefully move forward. I am looking forward to the full book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington books for a early excerpt in exchange for an honest review.

I was originally very excited to read this as the reviews looked promising! Unfortunately, I just really could not get into the story. It took me almost 3 weeks to read the 59 page excerpt and I'm someone who can usually rip through 400+ pages in a day. I did not like any of the characters and I found the writing style very simple. The pace was incredibly slow and sentences were very choppy which annoyed me.

Although I think Melissa Storm, is tackling an important topic of dealing with grief, I just don't think this book is for me.

Enjoyed this book very much.
Would absolutely recommend it to others

Characters were likable and well developed. Arc of the story was strong.
Easy read that is well written, what many readers are looking for. This would fit that bill perfectly.

When four women meet at a hospital where their respective parents are being treated for cancer, they form a bond and a Sunday night dinner club. This allows the four of them to commiserate and vent and get away from dealing with cancer for a night. As their parents die, one by one, is there still any reason for them to stay friends?

I didn’t realize that this was a preview to the full novel when I started it. Now I’m hooked and would really like to know how things turn out! Looking forward to the release of the full novel in March to find out what happens to these four friends. Full review available at that time.

3.75 stars for the preview!

The Sunday Potluck Club left me craving for more, the friendship of four women through their losses, and struggles are fascinating. I want to know more about once happy Amy and now cheerful Bridget. Publish the book already. Thanks for the excerpt though.
