Well written and truly thorough book.
The book is divided into four sections.
First focuses on Tree Mythology and Legend across various cultures, and in the modern world.
Second is a field guide to 100 common trees from North America and Europe. The line drawings are wonderful!
Third provides tree correspondences within various spiritual systems
Fourth is ‘Magicking, Activity, and Craft’. It offers practical exercises and meditations. This section includes creating wands, staffs and amulets.

One part reference guide, one part suggestions, and one part historical discussion. What more could you ask for?

I really enjoyed not only learning more about the different uses and symbols that different trees have, but also the discussion about have trees have been viewed both historically and in different religions.

I found the book interesting and appreciated the amount of information that was gathered for each listing but I am not sure if this is a title that would have very much demand.

Ein wundervolles Buch über Bäume, wie man sie noch nicht betrachtet hat - historisch, biblisch, magisch. Mit viel Hintergrundwissen der anderen Art und Zitaten angereichert.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this amazing book.
This is the "Definitive" guide to l,earning about trees and how they relate to our magical practices.. I appreciate how the author did such exquisite research on each tree and the magical properties. Living in a forest and being a green witch I found this most advantageous to my magical practice. I enjoyed learning more about the type of trees I live with and how to incorporate their meanings into magical practice.

This book I highly recommend for all who love trees, enjoy learning about trees and for those who want to incorporate types of trees in their magical practice. This is a book I will purchase in hard cover to utilize for my education on trees .

My thanks to Llewelyn Publications for a digital edition via NetGalley of ‘The Ancient Magick of Trees’ by Gregory Michael Brewer in exchange for an honest review.

This book’s subtitle, ‘Identify & Use Trees in Your Spiritual & Magickal Practice’ accurately sums up its contents. Llewelyn has a strong reputation as a publisher of accessible books on subjects linked to mind, body, and spirit. It is an imprint that I have read for over forty-five years and trust.

The book is divided into four sections. Section One examines Tree Mythology and Legend and includes examples from the Bible, across various cultures, and in today’s world. Section Two is a field guide to 100 common trees from North America and Europe and has line drawings of leaves, bark, and seeds/nuts.

Section Three provides tree correspondences within various spiritual systems and finally Section Four is titled ‘Magicking, Activity, and Craft’. This final section offers practical exercises and meditations. The craft section includes creating magical wands, staffs and amulets. There are also a number of appendixes.

Altogether, I feel that this is a very useful guide for anyone interested in working spiritually with trees. I love trees and woods and likely will buy a physical copy of this book for my reference shelf.

I have recently become more interested in plants as they relate to magick, and while I have found plenty of material about herbs, I had been lacking an equal reference for knowledge about trees. This book was a huge relief for me to find and I welcomed the author's much needed addition to the literature. I found The Ancient Magick of Trees by Gregory Michael Brewer to be informative, well researched, and interesting. I predict that I will often refer to this book in the future as needed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Llewellyn Publishing for providing me with this advanced reader's copy.

I'm always been fascinated by trees but there's a not a lot of material about working with them.
This book fills a gap and I'm happy I read because I learned a lot.
It's well written and well researched.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

There are so many resources for herbal magic but next to nothing on trees. This book changes that. It's great not only for the meanings and properties, but also how to use each type and how to connect with your local foliage.

I would recommend to anyone looking to increase their knowledge of natural magic.

I'm a pagan witch, my primary affinity being Earth. This was the perfect book for me. I wish there was a little more information but overall it was an amazing book!

The author writes in a very conversational, easy-to-follow manner. This is a very thorough compilation of trees, their physical and magical qualities as well much historical and folkloric material is included. Mediations and rituals are also available. I found much material in this book to ponder and reference. The author clearly did a lot of research to produce this book and one can feel his heart and passion as one reads. I definitely recommend this book if you are seeking a sort of encyclopedia - an all-encompassing book that will help you further your relationships with Trees.

This is an excellent book for referencing magickal and medicinal properties of trees. "The Ancient Magick of Trees" by Gregory Michael Brewer is a wonderfully written book that not only gives the reader a glimpse of tree lore but also educates the reader to the properties of several species of trees. I enjoyed the tree myths of sacred trees and greek mythology the author starts the book off with, very enlightening and entertaining. Then there is the very informative field guide that includes medicinal, practical and magickal uses for each tree. A great reference book to include the magickal attributes of trees into your practice. Blessings

Trees are such magical things and this book really plays on that idea, since so many cultures and be religions have seen trees as sacred. This book is very informative; the author really seems to know what he is talking about while appreciating the magic that trees have. This book is a must have for any tree lover or anyone interested in how trees are magical.

Even though I liked the illustrations and the concept of the book, I felt it was sometimes a bit simplified and lacking a bit nuance. The book could work great as a starting point, but if one wants more depth, I would advise to go search for info yourself.

whistle-stop tour of mythology that takes almost no nuance into account - I was surprised at the oversimplified assumptions

This is a very informative book, presented in four parts. The first part covered lore about trees in different cultures. It seems well-researched, but I found the tone reminiscent of children's textbooks. Still the information was interesting.

The second part is the books greatest strength. A list of trees with attributes and detailed drawings to show leaves, bark and any other identifying characteristics of the tree. These entries would make identification very easy and I may well take it out on my walks to get to know my local trees better.

The third section details tree correspondences in various systems, followed by part four which suggests activities to work with trees magically. These were written in a tone more in keeping with other new age books and the actual content seemed well thought out and appropriate for the target audience with an interest in paganism and nature magic.

Overall a very worthwhile book on the topic.

The idea behind this book is intriguing but falls just short of the mark in some ways, while still being a great resource in others. There's a very basic overview of mythology in relation to trees -- so basic, in fact, that further reading is basically a necessity for anyone who wants to truly understand this topic. The descriptions of the different trees were a nice touch that gave a reference/dictionary vibe to the book.

It's always nice to learn about other cultures through their relationship to nature, so I really appreciated that aspect of The Ancient Magick of Trees. This book would also probably be very useful to magic/Wiccan practitioners. .

A brilliant idea, and I really appreciated the thorough guide to identifying individual trees, but I have to say that the first section, looking at trees in different mythologies, made me very wary of the rest of the book's information. It's very much a simplistic, whistle-stop tour of mythology that takes almost no nuance into account - I was surprised at the oversimplified assumptions made in the mythologies I know well, so I was unable to trust the information provided about the mythologies I didn't know. I also found the author's personal religious bias to be a little too much, given that as he points out, a connection with trees is common to many paths.

That being said, the illustrations are helpful, and the concise guide to different trees would make this a good one for quick reference.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this read but I am so glad I tried it. I feel so refreshed after this read. It is almost as if I have a new found respect for the nature and magic it contains. I will say my morning walks are much more enjoyable after this enlightening read.

A really nice book about a variety of trees across the globe. You get a look at other information about them and then specifics about the individual tree. A really great book for those who do love trees and have trees specifically in their spiritual practice. Nicely done.
