So I like how simple the patterns are to follow and how the author also encourages you to make your own design using them. It will get me awhile to finish all of them but its definitely a keeper for crafts people. But I think its best as a physical book rather than an e-book.
Beautiful patterns with very simple and clear instructions. The kindle format is slightly off but it doesn't distract from the beautiful dolls in this book. I plan to make one of these for my daughter and have found the instructions incredibly easy to follow. All in all a great book for the crafter out there.
I had to read this even though I can't sew, the dolls are so cute that I'm inspired. It seems an easy stepping stone to finding your own style and making your own unique items.
Gingermelon's Embroidered Animals
Heirloom Dolls to Sew, Embellish and Treasure
by Shelly Down is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. This book is so cute! The dolls are so adorable and easy to make with step-by-step instructions on making them and their clothes! Each doll is so cute and I image one could use their imagination to add more clothes once practiced. Wonderful! Lots of pictures and instructions!
The book is full of super cute animal dolls to make and embroider. Each has set of clothes to sew, too. The patterns are printed in the book in actual size with no seam allowances, and you can also download them on the publisher's website. The embroidery is mostly simple and easy stitches to make an expressive face and add some more fun decorations, like a flower or a bumblebee on the forehead. Sewing is simple, too, with step by step directions. The dolls will be about 12 inches tall. I really like how cute the dolls are.
These are the cutest and easiest fabric dolls I have seen for a long time. Starting with a basic doll pattern, there are eleven interpretation of the most loveable animals such as a mouse, rabbit, fox, and a wonderful unicorn to name a few. These would make fabulous gifts for any child or new baby, for them to love and carry for a long time.
Actually I wouldn't mind some for myself.
This is a great introduction to sewing and embroidering dolls! The initial setting does a good job of explaining the process and the dolls patterns throughout the rest of the book are so cute! They are easy enough for a child to complete with adult supervision and perhaps a bit of assistence, and children will love being able to create their own dolls for themselves and for gifts to friends and siblings.
This is a cute collection of embroidered animal dolls based around a basic doll pattern. Included along with the dolls are various outfits. The embroidered details are cute and give each animal a special touch. These would make good gifts for that special child in your life.
Thank you to F+W Media and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Gingermelon's Embroidered Animals is a tutorial crafting book by Shelly Down. Due out 2nd July 2019 from Sewandso, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
This book is full of whimsical, attractive, high quality heirloom soft sculpture dolls and accessories which can be used and loved (not just looked at in a cabinet). The introduction (17% of the page content) covers materials and techniques, along with basic construction techniques and diagrams. The following tutorial chapters refine the basic doll with different animal features and accessories. Each of the dolls has face embroidery features as well as coordinating clothing. The dolls are made to the same measurements, so the coordinating outfits are mix-and-match, allowing for a huge number of alternatives.
The instructions are clear and concise with good construction diagrams and supplies lists, making the content accessible even for beginning crafters. I was impressed to see that the designer is generous enough to allow her designs to be created and gifted or sold as finished dolls (with creator credit of course) which makes me want to create several of these dolls and clothes to donate to a local crisis shelter. The dolls' faces are all integral, no loose pieces to give choking hazards. They're just beautifully designed and well made.
The book also includes tutorials for accessories for the dolls (see baby lion doll on the center cover). It will give hours of crafting fun and a lovely finished doll for enjoying or gifting. All of the tutorials include full size patterns. I did not finish any of the dolls, but did several pieces of clothing and found no errors in the patterns; everything went together well.
Five stars. Beautiful book.
So cute! I really can't sew very well, but I have family and friends who do and this would make a wonderful, whimsical gift for them! Lots of fun projects to make. I love these dolls! So cute! I may have to try my hand at making one or two. Instructions seems pretty straight forward and there are some helpful photographs.
I have made Gingermelon's Felt dolls from her previous book. Her new book has some really cute dolls. I think it would be a little more challenging and not necessarily for the beginning sewist, but if you enjoy a challenge then this book will be good for you. Well written and easy to follow. Can't wait to make a few of these dolls!
An endearing collection of sewn animal dolls with beautiful embroidered details. There are 11 different animals in total, each with its own personal items of clothing. All the animals are made from the same basic pattern which gives a finished doll of 12 inches tall. Each animal has delicate embroidery detail on its face.
The pattern instructions are clearly explained and there are plenty of photos to help illustrate each step. The patterns are straight forward and would suit anyone from beginner upwards.
A very pretty book that would make a lovely gift.
I was so delighted to be able to see and review this book of patterns. I have seen the authors stuffies n etsy and adored them and this book while not having the ones I covet the most to make did have others that were just too cute and equal in their own way. Easy patterns to make adorable dolls and their clothing. I am looking forward to more of her patterns being bundled together in a book and intend to actually sit down to make a doll for my dolls with this one!
