To be perfectly honest, I had a hard time understanding the author's points much of the time in this book. It felt rambling and overly long, and I came away not really getting what his point is. There are a lot of coincidences in life. Maybe they mean something. And....? I'm not sure how to put this book to use and struggled to keep reading it.
Being a big believer in synchronicity, this book was an anticipated read for me. Christopher Mackey does a fabulous job writing a book that explains this phenomenon. His attention to details, research and personal story made this a very interesting read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
I received The Positive Psychology of Synchronicity by Christopher Mackey from NetGalley in expectation of an honest review. The book is a wonderful combination of research, stories, science and psuedoscience. I particularly enjoy the flow of Mackey's writing about personal stories into the historical record. It has an intertwining of past and present I feel is important when discussing psychology, especially the trans-personal. the evidence of synchronicity provided in this writing makes it difficult to argue wit. The only downside to this book is that I feel it is a lengthier read than necessary. Christopher Mackey uses wordy stories to describe simple ideas. I encourage this read from anyone with interest in the psi part of psychology.
The Positive Psychology of Synchronicity is a well written book depicting the link between Psychology, synchronicity, and other spiritual aspects not normally considered by academia to be linked. But the author dispels these common beliefs, and with first hand accounts of himself or his patients, how science and spirituality can mix.
I've been learning a lot about synchronicity recently and it was interesting to read about the personal experiences that the author and others had in this book. Some seems like a stretch, but who knows? What is meaningful to me might not be to another reader. I will certainly be ordering this for the library. Thank you so much!
This is pretty well written. It is essentially 300 pages of stories/examples of synchronicity (mostly about the author) with a few pointers for readers. While very interesting at times, I didn't find it very useful. I think it will be inspiring for some readers.
I really appreciate the advanced copy for review!!
This was such an interesting read for me, as I strongly believe that those instances that are marked off as coincidence have a reason for occurring. The author did a great job of explaining how things are connected and the personal stories were fascinating.
I would consider this book a more advanced read for someone who has a basic understanding of synchronicity and is looking for more on the subject. The author uses examples in his own life and goes into great detail about his own rough times where it helped him through and may have even saved him during suicidal tendencies. To see a psychologist interested in this approach in helping with those with depression is refreshing. It’s a little technical and wordy at times, but it’s still easy to understand in general what the author is explaining, and anyone can get some good insight reading this.
I like this book, but sometimes it was a little bit too hard to believe, even if I tried. Interesting if not totally empiric...
Mi é piaciuto questo libro, ma a volte era un po' troppo difficile credergli anche se ci ho provato. Interessante anche se non esattamente empirico.
THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
I believe in synchronicity and have experienced it multiple times. It was great to read a book about the topic that was so thorough. The author brought in Jung's research, personal anecdotes, and those of other people to describe what synchronicity is and how it contributes to a spiritual experience. It was a good read!
This book is part memoir part information on synchronicity. I enjoyed how the author shows us the universe is showing us signs and synchronicities along the way. It is a great book for anyone wanting to see the power of synchronicity.
I would like to thank netgalleyand the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
The sections of this book on synchronicity are utterly fascinating. Connections between psychology, spirituality, and quantum physics will be of interest to anyone who has ever wondered how all these uncanny "coincidences" take place. The first part of the book is highly recommended.
The book also includes a memoir by the author. While it is well worth reading, it seems to be a different book (and maybe should have been a second book). I think those simply interested in Synchronicity would probably have wanted to cut to the chase and read the author's conclusions about that topic. It's almost like the author had the material for two books, instead of one lengthy one.
Recommended.
This book was so much more that I expected! It really opened up my eyes to so many things. I would hogty recommend it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I grew up Catholic and then after a period of questioning became an atheist. Though I don't necessarily believe in god, losing a loved one and practicing mindfulness and meditation has opened my mind to things I can't always explain. A lot of this book really resonated with me. The only thing I had wished for, as a scientific minded person, was more case studies. A lot of the book veers into memoir with detailed accounts of the authors experiences which, while interesting, had me wanting for even more experiences from other people. For me that took the book down one start but overall I enjoyed the writing and content.
I am very open to my spiritual side and have been exploring options to further my study to assist my work as a money coach. Reading this book has cemented my belief that the universe does give us meaningful signs all the time; we just need to look out for them. I had some amazing dreams while reading this book! Open you minds and enjoy this book - it is truly fascinating.
