This book is so cute. There is a thought out story line, cute characters, bright pictures, and just an overall good book.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book, but after reading Lucy's Light and a few pages of this book, I gave up. There tries to be a self esteem moral of the story but seems to get muddled.

Cute story about shyness but ultimately did not wow me. I think it might be a good resource for shy kids or in the classroom but overall not much content to it. This book was provided to me by NetGalley.

I really liked the images in this book; they really suited the story and helped bring it to life, my daughter really enjoyed it and asked me to read it to her again after we finished the first read though so that is always a good sign! I liked the themes of the book and I thought that the author had done a great job with the story – it is 4 stars from me for this one!

A fun book about breaking out of shyness. I enjoy how the author used the verb “pop” for action sounds when the snails hide in their shells. It’s a book long time picture book readers have seen a hundred times. Nothing is fresh or new, but the story is nice and will be enjoyable to kids.

Discover a world of lovable creatures in the Once Upon a Garden series.

Sophie is a curious smart little snail who has a lot of BIG questions to ponder. She adores learning new things which just leads to more questions.

"Why is the sky blue?"
"Why are raindrops wet?"
"Where does the sun go at the end of the day?" just to name a few.

She is so excited to start school and finally get those questions answered.

Sophie is expecting an exhilarating and fun time at school but when she arrives at the school gate she has a wobbly feeling appear in her tummy. Of all the questions that she has stored up to ask her teacher the most daunting one she discovers is... why is she so shy. Every time she has an interaction with someone or something new she "POPS!" She freezes and pulls back into her shell for safety. However can she overcome her shyness?

Sophie finally meets her match, another snail named Stanely, who confesses to her that sometimes he feels shy too. Together they support and encourage each other to come out of their shells and to interact with the other classmates and their world around them. They both gain confidence and happiness as they relax, have fun and make new friends.

This book is perfect to share if your little one is shy or over-anxious about going to school for the very first time. It will be a great tool that will open up dialogue about feelings, coping methods and how to gain self-confidence in social situations. Care, acceptance, praise, patience and love will draw those who are shy out of their shells and a HUGE coming out party is definitely in order when success has been achieved. I highly recommend this book.

I fell in love with Sophie on the opening page with her big eggs and pink body. I knew I would love this book. Sophie the snail is shy sometimes and she hides in her shell without knowing she's going to do it. But then, she meets Stanley, another snail friend. They encourage one another, make each other laugh and become great friends.
I love this book for teaching about introverts, being shy and how to handle big feelings. Lovely book!

This cute, brightly coloured book for children deals with shyness. Often children goes into their shell when they meet new people or when they are at new places.

Sophie a cute garden snail was a curious little creatures. But when she joined school she was so shy that she went inside her shell. Finally she found a friend who was like her and together they cope up with timidness.

The illustration is bright and Colourful
The snail and her shell was the best example to describe shyness.
Wish it had more fun ways to deal with shyness

This is a nice story and could be helpful to a child who is feeling unsure about starting school. I love the message of friendship and how Stanley - even though he himself is very shy - approaches Sophie to help her overcome her shyness. Later in the story, she does the same for him.

I do think it would be a good first day of school story especially for kindergarten children or perhaps first grade. Overall, this would be a nice book for a classroom collection or a parent helping his or her nervous child prepare for the first day of school.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reading copy! #netgalley #sophiesshell

Cute book about shyness. I really like the story. Sophie and Stanley do a great job teaching about what my teenagers call their wing man. The secret is in the wing man.

But...did it bother anyone else that the story started in present tense but then slipped into past?

Sophie's Shell is a super cute book about first day of school jitters. Poor Sophie is feeling very shy on her first day of school and when she feels shy she POPS into her shell to hide. When she meets Stanley, who also hides when he feels shy he helps her learn to come out of her shell and even better, she gets to return the favor. This would be a great book for kids who are timid around new people and struggle with new experiences. The illustrations are adorable and very bright and colorful.

Sophie is a lovely little snail shy about starting school and likes to pop back into her shell when it all gets too much until she makes a new friend, Stanley!

This picture book was super sweet all about overcoming shyness and the initial starting school jitters and nerves, the illustrations were great to illustrate the take and were super sweet and vibrant.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

Such a sweet and lovely book with the most beautiful and adorable illustrations! This would be a wonderful gift for little ones about to begin school - even if, like Sophie, they don't realize they may be nervous.

Thank you, APA and NetGalley!

This is the perfect book for anxious students returning to school. The pictures are beautiful and the story is heartfelt and emotional. I read this to my own children and my students the first week of school. It is always reassuring to know you aren't the only one feeling anxious, nervous, or unsure. I think most children today could use a little boost of confidence as the enter unknown situations. I would recommend this book!

Sophie, as you can tell from the cover of this book, is a generally alert and engaged young snail. In this entry from the American Psychological Association's series for children, readers learn that Sophie is a curious snail. She wonders about things like why are raindrops wet. Sophie thinks that school will be great as she will learn so much.

However, school is more daunting than Sophie expected. She feels shy and literally goes into her shell. How she breaks through and learns to cope is the subject of this book.

Read this book to a child you know who will be starting school.. It will offer some ideas and reassurance.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie's Shell is a very cute book about a shy snail's first day at school. She learns that it's okay to be nervous and afraid, but also learns that other's have their own fears. Together, she and her new friends overcome their fears and have a great time at school. Overall, the book was cute with wonderful illustrations but I don't find the story so enjoyable that it would be read again and again.

Thank you NetGalley and Magination Press for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy.

Fantastic book to read at the beginning of the pre-school or kindergarten year! Sophie is SO excited to start school, but even her excitement cannot outweigh her shyness. She would LIKE to be able to talk to the other kids, but she just keeps popping into her shell! Until she meets another shelled friend with exactly the same problem. They become each other's support and finally come out of their shells - literally and figuratively!

Sophie's Shell is about a little snail named Sophie who starts school and must face her newfound shyness with the help of a friend.

I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. Often, I'm not that impressed with books that tackle emotional subjects with the aim of "helping" kids; they usually seem like they're trying too hard. But this book is pretty cute. I loved Sophie's classmates (all creepy-crawlies you might find in a garden), and the writing was fairly strong. If I have one complaint, though, it's with Sophie's defense mechanism, at least at first. When she feels shy, she suddenly (and involuntarily) retracts into her shell. This is accompanied by the word "Pop!" The first time it happened, though, it took me a moment to realize what was going on. After the pop, we see Sophie's shell, but not her head. The text doesn't say anything like, "She popped back into her shell!" so the reader needs to be paying attention to the pictures. (It's definitely not going to work as an audiobook.)

Overall, though, this is a cute story with fun illustrations about overcoming shyness and fear with the help of friends. It might be a good choice for shy kids who are just starting out at school as a tool for reassurance.

So adorable! I love snails and the artwork is fabulous. This would be cute for any kid going to school for the first time that might be nervous. Of course it would be great for any snail lovers too!
