I just noticed I dnfed this book when I read it. Or try to read it.
I remember I really liked the summary and I was egar to read it, but it wasn't what I've thought.
He would control her demons so she could finally find the peace she needed. Control Freak will definitely keep you captivated until the very end.
This is like a 2.75 for me. It had good points but overall the bad outweighed. I just felt like the writing fell a little flat for me. I'm interested in checking out some other titles by this author though.
Lacey and Stian's story was a good, quick read that dabbled in so many different issues and situations. I found Stian's character to be extremely likeable and genuine. He seemed gruff and standoffish but was actually quite the gentleman. Lacey took more time to come around to.
The majority of the book focused more on Lacey's eating disorder and recovery, than the romantic relationship that was transpiring between the main characters. There were times in the read that I wondered if Lacey had a mental illness like bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia. It seemed that her issues were so much more complex than just anorexia. I thought the author did a good job of detailing the intricacies of the type of disorder that the heroine was suffering from. It was clear that a lot of research went into this character and I appreciated that. I wanted more from the couple and their connection though. Something was missing. The little tidbits of BDSM we got in this read kept the story interesting and steamy! I needed more of that part of the story and less about Lacey's issues.
The story wrapped up nicely and I like where the author left the couple at. I also really enjoyed the bonus epilogue! Nothing was rushed or forced. The progress that the couple made over time was realistic and genuine.
I've been binging Brianna Hale recently, and freaked out when I realized I had this book on my kindle. Honestly I don't know why I waited so long to pick up this book because it was good! I enjoyed getting to know both characters, and seeing them grow and their relationship progress.
Just a heads up that this book deals heavily with eating disorders. I know it's mentioned in the synopsis, but I wasn't expecting it to be such a big part of the story. Speaking of, I really enjoyed Stian and how he treated Lacey and her anorexia. I love that he supported her and was there for her, and love that the author didn't make him this thing that "cured" her.
First book by this author it was very hot hot story I liked the characters and the cover is so hot also enjoyed it
***4 Stars***
I first saw this book because an author I #fangirl over shared it on FB, so when I saw it on NG I decided to go for it because the premise intrigued me. Unfortunately life got in the way in a HUGE way and I had to put a few things to the side, and this book was one of the victims of that choice.
Fast forward to now (I know. I honestly feel horrible that I’m so far behind on my NG ARC’s) and I finally had a moment to breath, so I decided to pull Control Freak out of purgatory and I honestly found it fascinating. It wasn’t an easy read considering it delves into how all consuming an eating disorder can be for the person who is living with it, but it was eye opening and I found myself totally invested in Lacey and her journey.
I really liked both Stian and Lacey. Stian is a control freak, but it wasn’t a bad thing. He is demanding, but he has a compassionate heart that simply cares that things are done right. Lacey is sweet, vivacious and is a lot stronger than many believe her to be. Her struggle was heartbreaking, but I admired how she fought to have a semblance of a life. As for their journey to their HEA. It was definitely not what many would consider traditional, but it worked for me. Stien gave Lacey a safe place to just be and not worry about the chaos swimming around in her head and Lacey gave Stien a place where his control freak nature could evolve into something gentle and protective. The bumps were numerous and a few were quite intense, but I loved how it all worked out for them in the end.
This was my first read by the author and I really enjoyed it. This wasn’t an easy book to read by any means, and as I don’t have first hand, nor second hand experience with eating disorders it was definitely an eye opener to the daily struggles those who do live with them go through. As for the secondary characters, they didn’t really grab me, not to say that they didn’t add to the story because they did, but they were simply out done by Stien and Lacey that I have no strong feelings towards any of them. Definitely not the norm for me, but it is what it is. So, if you like age gap/daddy-little lifestyle then I’d check this one out.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I really liked the beginning and how things ramped up but I didn't expect such a focus on her health problems. Probably my fault as I didn't read the synopsis to refresh before starting the book. I like how they were able to work through it and come together at the end but it was a little touch and go for me in the middle.
Whew! Crazy good. Enough said. This is my favorite book so far of the author's books. I'm not a huge fan, I've only read a handful of them. This book had me laughing. Crying. Hopeful. Crying again. Very erotic, but not a book full of sex scenes. It was so well written. Lacey's struggles to get over her eating disorder pulled at me. Stian's helplessness to help her were heart wrenching. Read this book. Period. Crazy good.
The story was cheesy as was the dialogue. I couldn’t get into the book. Craft skills were lacking and the story was very shallow in development.
*****4.5 CONTROLED Stars
I went into this book with a preconceived notion and it was so much more than that. With so many layers, upon layers, of emotion this story pulled me in until my gut was twisted, my heart felt wrenched out of my chest. Lacey suffers from anorexia and its crippling; it has complete control of her every minute of every day. She’s not living not at all Lacey merely existing from one day to the next. Stian has control issues having been labeled a control freak, Stian is used to his rigid, no nonsense nature, yet he meets Lacey and that appeals to his nurturing side and he wants to be the man she needs. This is a good read.
*****ARC from Net Galley for review*****
Warning the female character sufferes from an eating disorder. There is also a bit of choking in the erotic scenes.
My first book read by this author and it won't be my last. Thanks to Netgalley for approving me reading this one in an exchange for an honest review.
WOW what a powerful story and enlightening. I suffer from anxiety. The thoughts I usually hear are I'm never good enough and I will never be happy. I never considered those thoughts as a voice that is a part of me like Lacey did. Just suffering from anxiety can be hard having an eating disorder is gut wrenching. This was an emotional, steamy, heartbreaking, but it also showed if you truly loved someone you will face the storms with them.
Short review: This book had lots of potential however it lacked the depth needed for such triggering topics.
full review to come!
A hot pretty good story by Brianna Hale - the first I've read and hope to read more by this talented author.
Honestly, this wasn't my cup of tea - the characters were fine but the main pairing kind of made me uncomfortable BUT if this is your kind of thing, more power to ya! This is a bit kinky, but I think mostly it's a discussion about eating disorders which I definitely found interesting. Basically, if you're into the kink and okay with reading about eating disorders you'll probably love this like the majority of readers did, but for me, it was just weird - I think mainly I just didn't like the love interest, so maybe that was the issue??? Who knows, I wanted to like this more than I did. Maybe I'll try another of Brianna Hale's books out in the future, but this one really wasn't for me.
I liked this book and I've read other books by this author so I know I like her writing style. I wasn't in love with the h but that was probably necessary for the story line. I love the chemistry between the couple though. The H was awesome but I wish he pushed more at the end. I loved that this book was original and was different from what I was expecting.
You know, I've got a ton of Brianna Hale books on my TBR so when I saw this one pop up on NetGalley I could not click fast enough. This is a new author for me so I had no idea what to expect, from the blurb alone I'm thinking "Ohhhhh we are going to have some Daddy kink up in here!" and then it just morphed into so. much. more. I really liked both the h/H but wish we would have had more of Stian (I know, I'm selfish like that).
The subject matter may be triggering for some but the author lists it at the end of the blurb and I will always praise a trigger warning.
Looks like the other Brianna Hale books I had sitting on my TBR just moved to the top of the pile!
I have a feeling that the characters in #ControlFreak will stay with me for some time. While the story contains a BDSM plot line, it also focuses on anorexia. Knowing very little about either subject, I found the story fascinating.
I especially appreciated that the author didn't feel the need to solve all her characters problems in order to obtain a happy ending.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Many thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley! (
First of all, this cover is H.O.T.!!!! The author picked the perfect cover for this book. This story was more than the whole broken girl/"daddy" type romance.
Stian and Lacey have that intense chemistry. I liked Stian's character because he didn't really treat her like she had the illness, he wanted her and treated her as normal as can be and not focusing on her anorexia. I enjoyed the story, like I said, it was much more to this story than I initially thought. Ms. Hale did a good job on telling their story and bringing some of today's issues from the real world into their story.

I was excited to read this book until I found out the heroine has anorexia. Let me say this topic hits very close to home and is honestly one of the least pleasant things to think about after having someone very close to me go through this. But I also wanted to push myself to read it, so I did..... and I ended up reading till 2am in the morning to finish it so I think that says something.
.
Our hero is a museum curator and in need of a new assistant when a friend recommends his daughter. Enter our heroine- a “recovering” anorexic and now this hot Swedish hero’s personal assistant. She secretly craves being submissive and all she wants is our hero to be her dom- and then her every wish is being fulfilled.
.
Now let me just warn you this doesn’t just have a little bit of anorexia in it- it’s full blown and on almost every page and do you know why? Because when you have it it does consume every aspect of your life- that’s what it is. It was handled so well that my hat goes off to BH because I felt the realness and you bet I cried. Apart from this you have an age gap, a hot office romance and some delicious BDSM (which I was totally sceptical about working with the heroine but it did).
