This offers a good assortment of genres - romance, historical, and suspense for new books coming out in the fall and spring and there were several that I would like to read in entirety.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Publishers Lunch for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review of Buzz Books Romance 2019. My thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.
Similar to other editions of Buzz Books, this one contains 13 excerpts of notable romance books being released in the second half of 2019. There is a selection of contemporary romance novels, historical romance, one fantasy selection and those along with the Harlequin Romance type novels.
Although I am a big fan of romance, I’m not a fan of the traditional romance novel. I really enjoy literary fiction novels that have a romance component and I absolutely love it in fantasy/science fiction novels. I can’t really get carried away with the formulaic hot guy meets even hotter but unaware of it girl, they fight, they can’t deny the heat, lots of sex scenes, then end. Now, I am not against anyone who does love that, just for me I don’t believe it, so I can’t be swept away by it. Sometimes I will enjoy the lighter romance style in the same way that I love a Saturday afternoon romance flick where I don’t want to do any heavy lifting and I need for it to work out in the end.
So I thought that I would give this Buzz Books Romance a look and see if there was anything that piqued my interest. Most of them was a pass for me. The Bromance Book Club, A Cowboy to Remember and such, not for me. There seems to be a Megan Markle influence because at least two of the selections involved monarchy and the girl next door. A Royal Christmas Wish, The Princess Plan, etc. again, I may like in a Saturday matinee, but not so much in books. There were contemporary romances like Not The Girl You Marry and historical romances like Bringing Down The Duke. None of these were ones I would even request for a free advance copy, never mind purchase.
There were a few that caught my eye. The Blacksmith Queen (yes, fantasy genre, and yes SHE is a blacksmith). The Little Bookshop on the Seine, I mean again, anything with a bookstore seems to suck me in, even though I have been disappointed in the past, and Paris. Last, The Sunday Potluck Club because anything club related always gets me. Book Club, Quilting Club, Knitting Club, and in this case they are brought together because of cancer, also up my alley whether I wish it or not. The idea of people coming together who wouldn’t ordinarily hang out, and becoming each other’s best friends and confidantes always attracts me. If you have read some of my other reviews, you’ll have heard me discuss my secret fantasy of being reborn as a southern United States lady from a small town where everyone knows your business. Same sort of feeling.
This isn’t really the Buzz Books for me, however, if you enjoy romance novels, I think you should check it out because you get a nice selection of what’s coming out and get to read a few chapters before committing. Noteworthy, this Buzz Books only contains the excerpts to these 13 books. There isn’t any larger list of selections. But, hey, it’s free, so it’s always a "yes" to recommend buying for me!
I don't know why I don't read these more often, but I'll make it a point to keep my eye out for them in the future.
Full of gems that I might have otherwise overlooked, and being able to catch an early glimpse of the story is just the icing on the cake!
I LOVED everything about this anthology. I think I seriously requested full galleys of almost each selection that was in it. I recommend reading through this for anyone who loves a good romance!
This book was a really nice way to be able to read a snippet of thirteen books in one place. At the end of each excerpt you were given the option (on those not released yet) to read/request a full digital galley from Netgalley. Each excerpt also contained all the publishing information for the title. This was a very informative and helpful book. I will definitely keep an eye out for more items like this one. Thank you, Netgalley for recommending this book for me to read.
I'm a relatively recent romance convert, so this is a great way to try out some different authors and anticipate what's coming out this year!
I read a few of the book excerpts in Buzz Books / Romance addition.
I enjoyed The Sunday Potluck Club,
Love Lettering
Unspoken
And A Royal Christmas wish.
I will be looking forward to reading these books as they become available
Great overview of books I want to read soon! These summaries are always wonderful to receive and sample upcoming novels.
I absolutely love browsing this catalog, both as a romance reader and a fiction buyer! It’s very helpful to me as a buyer and as a reader I always walk away with a few new titles on my TBR.
I had never read one of these before, and absolutely loved it. It is a collection of first chapters in books not yet published, some by established authors and some by first time authors. While I didn't love every story I found about 5 new authors to follow. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next Buzz Book collection. This is such a great way to introduce romance readers to new books.
Buzz Books 2019: Romance is a great sampling of this year's hottest upcoming books! I'm already in love with THE PRINCESS PLAN by Julia London and cannot wait to dive into NOT THE GIRL YOU MARRY by Andie J. Christopher.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers + authors who made this preview available to readers.
i loved being able to preview some of the new romance books! It was really helpful in making my decisions on what to request
As always, fun to get previews of upcoming books to make my tbr and library wish list. What else is there to say?
I enjoyed the book. However, I did not read all the samples (I do not read any more historical romance). I really liked that the book included several categories of romance.
I’m so grateful for this list and short insights from some of my favourite authors as well. Looking forward for read most of them.
Love this resource to see what would be coming out next. It was very thoughtful and informative. As I have reverted back to my romance roots...this was essential to see what my Fall should look like!
This was a cute collection of stories. The character development in each one was excellent. I highly recommend you read this when they're released.
This is a collection of first chapters and excerpts from upcoming romance novels, including historical, contemporary, fantasy, etc. A very helpful tool for deciding whether to purchase a book for our library collection (and gave me far too many things to add to my own TBR).
Really loved this opportunity to have samples from various authors. Makes me want to buy several of them!
This was my first time looking at Buzz Books and I loved it. I appreciated the longer excepts and the link to request right after. Definitely made my TBR longer!
