Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Beach by Sarah Linley!
I was initially not grabbed by this book. The beginning was very slow, but I really enjoyed the writing, so I kept reading and I am happy I did! The writing was very visual and descriptive, and you get the sense quickly that there are secrets still yet to be said. By the middle of the book, I was hooked!
Holly meets her soon to be best friends, Meg, Kristoff, and George, at the university, and they become inseparable. At the end of their college experience, they all plan a 3-month trip to South-East Asia, and unfortunately, it results in the death of George. Was it an accident or was it murder? That's what George's brother, Mark, wants to know and will stop at nothing to hear the truth. Holly wants nothing more than to live a normal life in her cottage, to enjoy her new romance with one of her students’ parents, Tom, and to forget about what happened that one night in Thailand. Mark wants revenge, he wants blood, and he wants a confession. Who will win?
Great book – Recommend!
A great mystery you cannot put down once you pick it up. If was fast paced and intense. The plot was great and the whole book was very enjoyable especially the flashbacks
Enjoyable plot, writing and characters, but the ending fizzled.

A group of friends fresh out of college take a back packing trip in Thailand. An unexpected incident happens and they decide to make a pact to never speak of it again. Years later Holly receives a text message of a photo taken in Thailand. She doesn't know who its from and things start happening around her. Full of suspense a few rocky parts but not a bad book. Thanks Netgalley and to the publisher.
Holly,Meg, George, and Kristof are close friends and fresh out of the university and on a great trip backpacking in Thailand. They were having the greatest of times and then suddenly the unexpected happened. A tragedy that no one could predict. The friends decided to make a pact that no one will speak of what happened and put the events behind them.
Nothing can be kept in the past though. Years later Holly is a teacher back home and those memories from Thailand come flooding back when she received an unexpected text messages that was taking during her time in Thailand. She doesn't know who it could be but then strange things start happening around Holly. Realizes someone is out to get her and wants the truth to come out at all costs.
This book was suspenseful and keeps you on edge to see what happens next. There is one part in the story that did not seem to fit into the whole plot itself and not sure why it was thrown in it. However this story did have its excitement as it tells the story in present time and the past in the Thailand trip.Great ending as well.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review.
Loved this book. It was a book that kept me intrigued and engaged. A very easy read that flowed and went at just the right pace.
Enjoyed the back and forth from past to present as the story unfolded.
Definitely a recommended read for all.
Thank you Harper Collins Once More Chapter and NetGalley.
I really enjoyed this book. It had me gripped from the very beginning. It was a very well thought out plot and well written especially for the authors first book. Really look forward to reading more of her books. I thought at times I had an idea what was going to happen, but I couldn’t have been more wrong!! Certainly kept me wanting to carry on reading it. The Would definitely recommend reading it.
Thank you to negalley, the author and publisher for the arc of The Beach.
I had mixed feelings about this book in the beginning. The more I read the more I got into the story. It did drag in places but the ending actually surprised me. That rarely happens.
Flew through this book.
Five years ago a dream gap year trip to Thailand with her University mates ends in a nightmare as only 3 of them come back. They make a promise to never tell anyone what happened that night on the beach.
Holly is now settled into her new teaching role and with her new boyfriend, Tom.
Someone doesn't think she deserves to be happy and starts to send messages to Holly asking for her to tell the truth.
Holly ignores it a first, but as the messages turn to stalking, Holly realises she needs to find out who her tormentor is.
I did see the final twist coming.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion.
Oof. One of the BEST final pages I’ve read in a long time. This book needs a better title but the storyline itself couldn’t be better. Brilliant.
This is my kind of psychological thriller! Holly is a young teacher in the throes of a new romance with the father of one of her students. But something haunts her from her past as the chapters go back and forth from present to her college days when she and three of her friends took a trip to Thailand one summer. Only one of them didn't return and now someone is stalking/threatening Holly to encourage her to "confess." The story plays out slowly but the suspense is palpable as we discover what really happened and who is to blame. I look forward to more from this author!
The perfect beach read for the middle of winter. Fast paced and highly entertaining, I really enjoyed this one. It’s full of twists and keeps you guessing until the very end.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to.
Great quick read psychological suspense story with a somewhat surprise ending.the reader can figure out who the suspects are but not how the murder really played out.
Having been travelling the premise of this book hooked me in. However, the majority of the book is set either after, or in the lead up so this is not the main focus. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable read, albeit a bit predictable.
Overall this was a well developed story with interesting characters and well written, not an edge of seat thriller for me but a good read throughout.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse Killer Reads for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
I truly couldn't get into this book. I think the plot was going to be super interesting but I couldn't enjoy it after feeling like it took too long to really begin. I just don't think this is the kind of slow-paced book I wanted to read. I anticipated something must stronger. I think this will be a hit with a book club though.
A quick, suspenseful novel where you know who is doing the dirty work, but you aren’t quite sure why. I saw most of the twist at the end coming, but the last couple of pages were deliciously surprising!
I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
This book definitely went down some roads I did not expect it to go. Some of it’s very standard vacation “accident” thriller type stuff but in the end it transcended the tropes and still felt fresh. Definitely well worth the read. 3.5 rounded up
I enjoyed reading ‘The Beach’, it was an effortless read and while I didn’t feel overly committed to it, it had enough going for it to keep me turning the pages! A wee twist featured but generally it was fairly straightforward. Characters were fairly likeable and the pace moved at a decent rate. The plot is based around a young teacher who finds her self being stalked in relation to event that happened a few years previously. It’s bang on trend with themes of stalking and a back story based in Thailand.. if you like a novel for pure mindless escapism you won’t regret this purchase.
My thanks to Net Galley, publisher and author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
